Bravely Default Battle Screenshots, Wait The Bad Guys Have Jobs Too?

Square Enix shared a bunch of battle screenshots from Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. The Nintendo 3DS game has four confirmed jobs so far and all of them are Final Fantasy staples.

Knight
Excels in offense and defense and acts as a shield for the party.

Monk
These hand to hand specialists have fists that can break stone.

White Mage
In addition to recovering HP, White Mages have attack spells like Holy.

Black Mage
Black Mages are masters of destructive magic.

Anyone with an "Asterisk" can change jobs in Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. Anies and Tiz have this item and so do their enemies – the Eternia Air Force.

Argent Heinkel
This level headed knight is the commander of the Eternia Air Force.

Bearing Out
A monk who brags about his "steel body" and steers the airship.

Holy White
As the squad’s white mage she heals the group and controls the airship’s bridge.

Ominous Crowe
The group’s black mage who butts heads with Holy White.

 

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is slated for release later this year in Japan.

    I thought the “Enemies have jobs, too” thing was already announced? Maybe I read it somewhere else…

      Or perhaps I read that on Andriasang. I was pretty sure I saw it here too though.

    I like this idea! Not many games explore the idea of your enemies having jobs as well (though they are usually just implied or just not noted). So, Square-Enix, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!

         I mean in the vein of an RPG like this, not a tactical RPG.

      Yeah, i enjoy when the enemy’s can do the same thing as you in RPGs as well. while the game didn’t have jobs , i felt like some of the best battles in tales of graces f was against human’s who could also sidestep your attacks and gain CC because of it lol. 

      i feel like, your fighting on equal terms…(but really your probably not lol)

    Game looks so good! I could live with turn based combat but those damn random battles!

      Actually I was never bothered by random battles in most games I played that had them.  As long as they aren’t too frequent, I’m fine.

        I never built that tolerance since I didn’t grow up playing JRPGs. They annoy the hell out of me and have ruined some otherwise fantastic games for me.

        It should be useful as you know what the enemy specializes in which allows you to make a good strategy.

        Example: “Hmm. That’s one a White Mage, so obviously she keeps the enemies alive. I think I should kill her first”

            No, the better option is use Vanish I guess?

          Of course, that depends on whether or not this games has front and back rows, similar to the older Final Fantasy games. If it does, it might not be such a good idea to focus on the White Mage and only do half damage while the rest of the enemies pulverize you….

          Then again, I suppose you are likely to have an Archer or a Black Mage that can focus on the enemy White Mage.

             Mages can be really nasty if they are within a party… The tanks absorb damage while the Black and White Mages do their thing. The white mage makes the party stronger and heals them. So unless you want to fight a long battle then you gotta kill her first.

             Also if you have your own White Mage, then your party might survive longer. Of course you must protect her, of course.

    This is awesome! I am really getting this.

    Also the jobs revealed (Knight, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage) is the same as ideal balanced party in the original Final Fantasy.

    SO EXCITED!!

    I hope your party and your enemy actually face each other like in the second screenshot. Those angles in the first shot — which were also present in the demo — make no sense and are pretty jarring. Other than that, I’m excited! Having some enemies change jobs sounds like a great way to add tactical depth to battles.

    So they can switch class… it’ll be cool to see the enemies as one class in one battle, then all switched around in the next.

    Artstyle looks similar to the DS Final Fantasy games, just abit more stylized. Already looking forward to it.

         With the mention of crystals, I wouldn’t doubt it. Also you kinda think they would move away from the crystal thing by now, but I tend to expect with the FF Crystal Chronicles games.

    I hope this gets ported it looks like a cute game that id love to play a few times. the prospect of villains having classes too is a nice little  touch.

    It’s a kinda cool idea having an opposing team of four who go through their own story-arch and class changes. Wonder if they’ll be able to do it mid-combat, or if it’s just a story-progression thing.
