Square Enix shared a bunch of battle screenshots from Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. The Nintendo 3DS game has four confirmed jobs so far and all of them are Final Fantasy staples.

  • I thought the “Enemies have jobs, too” thing was already announced? Maybe I read it somewhere else…

    • Solomon_Kano

It was. This is just more on it, I guess.

Or perhaps I read that on Andriasang. I was pretty sure I saw it here too though.

  • boundries_san

Well this is not suprising as in Final Fantasy tactics, foes always have unique job.^^

  • Square Enix, give me surprise at E3 and I’ll give you my money.

  • rinalicat

I like this idea! Not many games explore the idea of your enemies having jobs as well (though they are usually just implied or just not noted). So, Square-Enix, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!

    • PoweredByHentai

Um, Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics series would like to have a word with you.

      • rinalicat

I mean in the vein of an RPG like this, not a tactical RPG.

    • Draparde

Yeah, i enjoy when the enemy’s can do the same thing as you in RPGs as well. while the game didn’t have jobs , i felt like some of the best battles in tales of graces f was against human’s who could also sidestep your attacks and gain CC because of it lol.

i feel like, your fighting on equal terms…(but really your probably not lol)

  • Guest

I’m glad that the enemies have jobs like in Final Fantasy tactics. (^_^)

  • Game looks so good! I could live with turn based combat but those damn random battles!

    • Guest

Actually I was never bothered by random battles in most games I played that had them.  As long as they aren’t too frequent, I’m fine.

      • I never built that tolerance since I didn’t grow up playing JRPGs. They annoy the hell out of me and have ruined some otherwise fantastic games for me.

  • Enemies having a clear and established job/class?

What sort of madness is this?

    • Zero_Destiny

      The best kind. :)

      • komiko12

It should be useful as you know what the enemy specializes in which allows you to make a good strategy.

Example: “Hmm. That’s one a White Mage, so obviously she keeps the enemies alive. I think I should kill her first”

        • boundries_san

Hmm… all the foes are berserker while my sides is magician…… Run???

          • komiko12

No, the better option is use Vanish I guess?

        • Tom_Phoenix

Of course, that depends on whether or not this games has front and back rows, similar to the older Final Fantasy games. If it does, it might not be such a good idea to focus on the White Mage and only do half damage while the rest of the enemies pulverize you….

Then again, I suppose you are likely to have an Archer or a Black Mage that can focus on the enemy White Mage.

          • komiko12

Mages can be really nasty if they are within a party… The tanks absorb damage while the Black and White Mages do their thing. The white mage makes the party stronger and heals them. So unless you want to fight a long battle then you gotta kill her first.

Also if you have your own White Mage, then your party might survive longer. Of course you must protect her, of course.

  • komiko12

This is awesome! I am really getting this.

Also the jobs revealed (Knight, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage) is the same as ideal balanced party in the original Final Fantasy.

  • so much want

*imagines the madness of a Blue Mage enemy* uh oh. . .

  • Day 1, somebody getting sniped if this game don’t get localized.

  • neetyneety

Is that monk’s name seriously “Bearing Out”? Now isn’t that bear-y strange.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      bear-y strange indeed

    • kool_cid414

That pun was beary funny but too many would be unbearable^^’

  • Axelstream

I hope your party and your enemy actually face each other like in the second screenshot. Those angles in the first shot — which were also present in the demo — make no sense and are pretty jarring. Other than that, I’m excited! Having some enemies change jobs sounds like a great way to add tactical depth to battles.

  • This game has so much charm. Awesome art direction, so glad they’re including the old jobs back!

  • DCBlackbird

Damn the AI’s are learning to much soon they’ll learn how to curb stomp us every time

  • s07195

‘Anyone with an “Asterisk” can change jobs in Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. Anies and Tiz have this item and so do their enemies – the Eternia Air Force.’
So they can switch class… it’ll be cool to see the enemies as one class in one battle, then all switched around in the next.

  • Code

I’m really loving the visuals and style owo; I hope SqaureEnix keeps picking away, working this style in the future >w<~

  • Artstyle looks similar to the DS Final Fantasy games, just abit more stylized. Already looking forward to it.

    • Vyrus

I guess that’s because it’s being considered a direct successor of Final Fantasy: 4 Warriors of Light by its creators.

      •  With the mention of crystals, I wouldn’t doubt it. Also you kinda think they would move away from the crystal thing by now, but I tend to expect with the FF Crystal Chronicles games.

  • AnimusVox

It’s weird for me to admit this but the white mage chick is kinda hot

  • Solomon_Kano

I really hope we see a western release announced for this at E3. It looks waaaay too good for me to miss out on it.

  • I hope this gets ported it looks like a cute game that id love to play a few times. the prospect of villains having classes too is a nice little  touch.

  • Göran Isacson

It’s a kinda cool idea having an opposing team of four who go through their own story-arch and class changes. Wonder if they’ll be able to do it mid-combat, or if it’s just a story-progression thing.
