Sony Register Domain For “Forsaken Souls” In North America

Sony Computer Entertainment America have registered a domain for ForsakenSoulsTheGame.com, reports Super Annuation. The record for the domain was created on May 11th. Could this perhaps be a localized title for Keiji Inafune’s Soul Sacrifice on the PlayStation Vita?

Soul Sacrifice is a multiplayer Vita game where you play as an enslaved wizard. Teaming up with three other players, you can customize your character, take on quests and do battles with an assortment of gruesome-looking monsters and demons. The catch is that, instead of simply casting spells, you can only perform magic by sacrificing something in return.

Simple spells can be cast by sacrificing items in your possession, but more advanced magic requires you to give up your own body parts. For instance, Excalibur involves crafting a sword out of your own spine. Another spell, Gorgon, requires pulling out your eye to make it shoot laser beams.

Forsaken Souls sounds like it could be a nod to the Demon’s Souls name. In 2009, From Software released the first game in their popular Souls fantasy series, titled Demon’s Souls. While the game was published in North America by Atlus and in Europe by Namco Bandai, the rights to the Demon’s Souls property itself belong to Sony.

oi, i rather like dat name.

  • MrRobbyM

Sounds like it could be either. From is already working on the next Souls game if I recall correctly in a recent interview. Forsaken Souls sounds like an odd choice for a Souls game so my guess is that it’s Soul Sacrifice for the states. I rather it be a new Souls game though >_>

I’m not sure here. What’s up with the Souls IP?

Sony owns Demon’s Souls, but From was still able to work with Namco and make Dark Souls, which is essentially the same game although with a slightly different name. Since the game was successful, I assume Namco will want to make more of it, but at the same time, Sony should also see the potential in the series. So they could want to publish the game too. And who would From yield to, in that case?

Could it mean we’re going to see two different branches of the same series, a la Operation Flashpoint?

      • MrRobbyM

..Hopefully! The more Souls games the better. But really, I don’t know. Maybe Sony wanted the cake all to their selves and threw some money around? We’ll see I guess. This is all wishful thinking anyways.

“Could it mean we’re going to see two different branches of the same series, a la Operation Flashpoint?

Dark Souls is a given that is going to have a sequel.
As for Demon’s Souls it really depends if Sony is interested. They acted quite dumb the first time but they still own the IP.
The real question is if they ever decide to make a sequel will they try to make it on their own or ask From Software to do it?
        I hope it’s the later.

      • Exkaiser

In that scenario, From would yield to the company with the better offer.

I can see Sony would very likely have an interest in making a third Souls game exclusive. At the same time, if Namco published it, Sony would still make some money off it anyways, as they’d undoubtedly publish it on both Xbox and Playstation again.

IMMA SOUL MAN DUDUDU DA DUDUDU!
IMMA SOUL MAN DUDUDU DA DUDUDU!
    IMMA SOUL MAN . . . .yeaaaaaahh!

Silly post but it made me laugh. :p

  • Solomon_Kano

… I prefer Soul Sacrifice, honestly. It’s whatever, it still looks awesome.

  • Farid Belkacemi

No E3 surprise then… I hope Sony still has some bullets for their L.A show.

  • KyoyaHibari

Doesn’t look like a successor to Demon or Dark, not sure…

It was never one to begin with. From is not developing this game, Inafune does. It does have some of its design though.

And also: Hell yeah, good choice bringing some good games over here too :)

      • Exkaiser

That this might be a localized title for Soul Sacrifice is conjecture.

The website was registered by SCEA, not Inafune. It’s possible- though quite unlikely- that it’s going to be used for a successor to Dark Souls (as they own the rights to the Demon’s Souls property).

Hm..Can’t leave that option out either then. The only reason that I doubt that it could be a spiritual successor is solely for the reason that I doubt that they really would release any of those games to a handheld. Everything is possible though. Guess we’ll just have to wait for E3 to answer us this question.

Just registering the name of a game doesn’t mean that it was announced for a specific platform.

  • BadenBadenPrinny

Another volume in the series of unnecessary name changes most likely. That, or Sony has gone insane for our benefit

EDIT: lol really a double poast :v

    • Ronald Bixler

Like the redundancy of Japan’s Phantom Kingdom being changed to Makai Kingdom when it reached US shores, just so that they could avoid tying it to Phantom Brave and its mediocre sales?

      • BadenBadenPrinny

         Yes, like that :P

  • TheDarkEmpress

Not a From Software successor title? Not interested.

I hope it’s good. The Vita needs it.

I hope it’s a Demon’s Soul successor because that way we get 2 games and I’ve no doubt that Soul Sacrifice will get localized. But if its not, fine too :D

It wouldn’t be surprising to see that game come here.

I’m just hoping we’ll get a solid release window for Bravely Default, when the time comes.

If the Soul sacrifice speculation is true, then i have to say I approve of the name change, and I want it more now. If the Souls series speculation is true, though… SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IWISHTHENEXTGAMEWWOULDBEONBOTHPS3ANDXBOX360(and PC too)BUTIWON’TCAREANYMOREIFIGETCONFIRMATION. ….Sorry, my inner Souls fanboy kicked in. Demons Souls and Dark Souls are the best RPGs I have EVER PLAYED, and I. WANT. MORE. Oh, PLEASE LET ONE OF THESE BE TRUE.

    tl;dr: FANBOYING

Just to clarify, I didn’t mean to suggest either one over the other. Also, it’s very likely that this is Soul Sacrifice, just with the “Souls” branding implied to get that same audience interested in the game.

      • badmoogle

I don’t think Sony intentionally used the word “Soul” in the title in order to get the same audience from Demon’s Souls interested in this game. The title probably comes from Inafune himself and as he explained in the game’s conference it really describes the game’s concept.

SS’s concept (and genre) look very different from Demon’s Souls so i hope people realize this because otherway it may lead them to disappointment.

I doubt the 2 names have anything to do with one another

  • SirRichard

I wouldn’t care if they called it “The Fantastic Adventures of Maimself Von Smythe, Wizard Extraordinaire”, as long as we get it.

  • Zonron

i like how it says ForsakenSoulsTheGame.com, so does that mean we might get some books or comics out of the series? a animated movie or series perhaps? what must we sacrifice to see these?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512740433 Zubi Khan

soul sacrifice sounds better, just cause of the alliteration. Don’t know why they would bother in changing the name. I guess there might be a chance it’s a different game, but doubtful.
