Ragnarok Odyssey Will Be Available In English This July

By Spencer . May 18, 2012 . 2:00pm

004Xseed said Ragnarok Odyssey will be ready in English sometime this summer. Sony Computer Entertainment Asia has a more specific date – July 12. That’s when Ragnarok Odyssey with English and Chinese text will be available in regions like Hong Kong and Singapore.

Since an English version will be complete in July, Xseed’s release shouldn’t be too far behind (or ahead?).

Ragnarok Odyssey has elements of Monster Hunter where players can team up locally or online to fight giant creatures from Ragnarok Online.

  • Hopefully the Not too far behind thing is accurate. It’d be nice to have something portable to hold me over until DDD Comes out.

Gravity Rush, Gungnir, and Growlanser IV?

      • Gravity rush is June and I don’t care about Gungnir or Growlanser.

  • Shinji Kazuya

Awsome! I’ll wait to see if it comes to Europe. If not, I’ll import.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    XSEED knows no rest!

  • nyobzoo

good news, sooner than I expected

    • Testsubject909

great news… So happy right now.

  • YES! this just made my weekend!

  • AWESOME XD! I was looking forward to this game, and now it’s almost here :DDDDD~
    Thanks XSEED XD

  • The_Real_Oyashiro

    Whoa! That was fast!

  • I wonder why Capcom cannot be like this with Monster Hunter. Im glad we will be able to play this game soon enough.

    • Spider-Man

Agreed. Capcom needs to take notes.

    • thebanditking

I like this a lot more then any of the MH games, its a more fast paced game. Kind of like an old arcade beat em up but with MH elements thrown in.

    • Exkaiser

I think Monster Hunter is just fine the way it is. The two games are sufficiently different that they can coexist, so why not let them?

      • Im all about coexistence lol, even if a Monster Hunter game was around in the west now, I would get this game too for sure. The issue is not about having the two games, the issues is why Capcom has to be so difficult to localize the Monster Hunter franchise while this one gets localized right away…

        • Solomon_Kano

          This wasn’t right away.

This was also an opportunity for a fresh start for Xseed vs. a proven disappointment for Capcom. Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see MH over here in a more timely fashion. It’s more than clear why we don’t though. It’s hard for a company to justify a series’s further localization when the games they localized prior didn’t do too hot.

          • Exkaiser

Moreover, Portable 3rd came out at a time where the PSP was already on the way out in the West.

I think we’ll have more luck with Monhun localizations on fresh hardware.

          • Solomon_Kano

I’m inclined to agree. Capcom’s lack of success with Monhun in the west largely had to do with the PSP’s position and I’m sure they recognize that. I’m sure we’ll see MH on 3DS make it over.

      • I’m pretty sure AngelMass was talking about localization there, chief…

        • Exkaiser

I thought it was pretty vague, but I guess I was scrolling up through comments of gameplay.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Wow! My Vita this summer is going to rock-out like there’s no tomorrow!

  • Spider-Man

Aww yeah! Gravity Rush and Ragnarok Odyssey!

    • Testsubject909

Summer time this year is no gaming draught, it’s sexy Vita time.

  • thebanditking

I downloaded and played the Japanese demo recently and this game was amazing. It was like a mix of Phantasy Star and Monster Hunter but a lot faster and with aerial combos. To explain it better there is a move like DMC 1 when you can launch characters up in the air then jump up and chain together moves. Also the enemies have collision detection (which I think may be a first for this type of game correct me if I am wrong) meaning if a bunch of enemies swarm you when air borne you can smack the enemy your fighting in the air down and he will crash into them same thing goes for power hits, if you line it up your enemy goes flying and hits the others.

Also the game looked gorgeous, the design is simple but the colors, bloom lighting and little touches like glistening water and lens flare really give the world some life, like Grandia II but with a higher poly count on a OLED. Like all Game Arts titles this oozes quality and still retains that little something extra that their titles always have. This game is a system seller imo, and I can’t wait to play it

    • Exkaiser

Monster Hunter has it such that monsters damage each other with their attacks (and  the boss monsters will often try to pounce on you and land smack-dab in a mob of minions), but of course you can’t really knock the bosses -into- enemies like that.

  • Domii

I can’t wait for this baby. I’m getting my Vita after E3 with this, Gravity Daze, and Uncharted.

  • Testsubject909

    Ahem… I’m sorry, I just gotta.

PRE-ORDER GOTTA GO DAMN WHERE CAN I MUST NOW DAY 1 GUAH! Oh and I’m glad I got a job because now I can afford this without straining my MONEY TO SCREEN NOT WORKING WHY!?

Sorry, just sort of spazzed there. But seriously, not that level of excited for the game, but I have been hoping to get it and will indeed be getting it day 1.Really, the game that gets me spazzed like that up above… not really all that many, very very few actually… Even Gravity Rush is just an internalized excitement with no outward jittery actions, odd ain’t it? Mind you, I am highly anticipating it and cannot wait to have some good fun times with Kat.

So… Who wants to group up and go hunting once the game comes out? Oh yeah, someone should probably re-link the whole list of names, PSN ID and etc that was in the Open Thread Message Board.

    • Solomon_Kano

      Group hunting? I’m in.

    • When I get the game, I’m in… But the only thing stopping us is region-locked multiplayer…

We do have a spreadsheet of Siliconerans PSN IDs, etc……

      • Where sis that spread sheet go, btw?  I don’t think I could locate again.

        • It’s under construction as I’m adding something new to it so when the game comes out, I post the link in the open thread…

If you really need the link, don’t be afraid to ask…

    • Christopher Nunes

I’ll take you up on that offer when I get the game! I loved played Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii online! Best multiplayer experience for me ever!

I hope this game does as well!

    • Hinataharem

All of your comments never fail to make me smile.

I’m up for a group hunt!

  • Jake Deerberg

Let’s see here… Resistance… Gravity Rush… Metal Gear solid… Little Big Planet… and now this… man my wallet’s gonna be hurtin’ in the next two months

  • July would be awesome, actually.  I hope that’s really the date.

  • A day before my birthday? Awesome!

Dragon’s Dogma for May/June, Gravity Rush for June/July, then this for July/August.

  • Solomon_Kano

I reeeeally can’t wait for this.

Summer is going to be GOOOOD. Gravity Rush, this, Gungnir, Darksiders II (?), Amazing Spider-Man, not to mention all the new stuff we’ll see announced at E3. Yea, summer’s gonna be good.

    • Christopher Nunes

Oh! I forgot about Gravity Rush since I haven’t been keeping up with the updates on it! That’s another one I need to get!

Already pre-order The Amazing Spider-Man game for the PS3 on Amazon! Sorry Rhino, but I want the playable Stan Lee on my copy of the game!

      • Solomon_Kano

I need to go pre-order it from Amazon myself. Playable Stan Lee? That’s gotta be like the best pre-order bonus ever lol.

        • Christopher Nunes

Check the articles here on siliconera for the Stan Lee bit. You play as Stan Lee, swinging in the air like Spider-Man (I believe) collecting his missing manuscripts for his comics.

          • Solomon_Kano

There’s even a story with it? Cool.

  • Dang July is pretty busy. We have that Final Fantasy music game and Kingdom Hearts.

    • Christopher Nunes

Damn! Too many great games coming out soon! My wallet it crys, but my heart it sings!

So getting them! I’ve pre-order Kingdom Hearts 3DS Limited Edition, and I’m going to get Ragnarok Odyssey for my VITA! Seeing as I hear great things about this musical FF game, and I like FF, I’ll put it up as well!

  • Syltique

It’s listed on Amazon as August 21st for NA.

  • Go2hell66

    oh yeah only 2 months!

  • JazzyMan123

*Ahem* Everyone please take note that this July release is meant for the Asian regions like Hong Kong and Singapore and not NA.

This is a different release from XSEED. XSEED’s release is still a ‘summer’ release for NA.

  • Need to get a PS Vita just for this game :)

    • Learii

same here but  is  july   or aug?

  • eliel

    woot can’t w8 for July :D

  • DanijoEX

Just so I don’t get this wrong: SCE Asia is handling Ragnarok Odyssey’s release for Hong Kong and Singapore.

And Xseed’s release for North America is still Aug. 21st.

  • Fango

With this and Soul Sacrifice… who the hell needs a shtty monster hunter expansion priced at full cost?

  • I’m just happy this is even coming to america at all, I don’t care how long it’ll take, as long as it’s in my hands eventually!

  • kroufonz

sce asia localized japanese game usually mean this will have japanese voice (the hot shot golf vita asian chinese version have japanese voice)

may be i am gonna import this if xseed version don’t have jp voice.

  • What did I tell you guys, WHAT did I tell you? It’s going west~! Wooo, I was right! Good work, xseed and Sony! You’re awesome!

  • GaySkull

    Game Arts and Gung Ho!

Will this play like Grandia & Ragnarok at the same time?

  • According To Latest Press Release on SCEAsia, R.O will be Release on “Summer 2012”. There is no specific date said, maybe it pushed/delayed.
