Sure, 16 GB Drives Cost Less Than $30, But This One Is Made For Dragon Quest

By Spencer . May 20, 2012 . 11:48pm

dq1aDragon Quest X requires a 16 GB USB drive to run and Square Enix made a special flash drive just for the Wii game. The 2,490 yen ($31) "Lv. 16" (haha) drive has a Slime and Dracky on it.

The drive also comes with a Dracky t-shirt you can wear in-game so you can show off online.

Fans can pick up the Dragon Quest X flash drive and Dragon Quest X on August 2.

I kind of want it. . . and I might not even play the game.

  • boundries_san

    …… I can’t wait for Lv 32 here lol.

  • DQX Wii is pretty much early access japan only beta version. Wii U version will be definitive worldwide release.

    • Trotmeister

Whoever said that the game will ever be released outside of Japan?

      • boundries_san

      • Because every mainline dq game has been releases in America? Everyone’s seems to have forgotten that this was announced for wii u. S-e isn’t gonna release dq on a dead platform ie wii. They’d be better off releasing on the wii u internationally since it’ll be a fresh platform without data restrictions

      >console version

      • Green text on a website with no green text, classy.

        • CirnoLakes

I greentext outside of imageboards because that’s what all the classy kids are doing.

      • Green texting outside of 4chan…

  • Souji Tendou

Lv. 16? Pffft, give me Lv. 99, then I’ll buy it. :p

    • Testsubject909

Currently playing Disgaea 3 on my Vita.

Give me Lv.9999. Then we’re talking.

      • Souji Tendou

Lol, I know someone gonna reply to me sooner or later about Lv. 9999 thing from Disgaea.

  • I never really understood why companies think charging so much for data made any sense. . .

plus, DQX is still looking very mediocre even after many attempts to encourage myself into at least trying it. . . if it ever is released in the West that is.

  • Ok I’m probably out of the loop here, but why the heck does this game require it’s own flash drive to play it?

    • WizardoftheBlueOrder

The Wii doesn’t have a hard drive to store data, and DQX, being an MMO, needs a way to store a lot of data, temporary and otherwise. (Oversimplifying, but whatever, you get the idea.)

It has the ability to use any data storage devices you have connected, so you could use a flash drive, external hard drive, or even SD card (I think) to fix this problem.

Dunno why it it’s 16 gigs, as that feels a little much just for an MMO, but it could just be perceived value of the flash drive.

      • Aye, I gotcha. The amount of space just for the game alone does seem abit much, but judging from the other articles at the bottom of the text up there, Square Enix know what they’re up to, and not in a very savory way.

  • CirnoLakes

It sounds like one of the better MMORPGs to be coming up.  Especially in comparison to all the disappointing MMORPGs of this year.

But… an MMORPG.. for the Wii only? That’s a ridiculous idea. And while using an actual drive for physical media instead of discs for a change is ingenious. It’s only necessary because it’s a console-only MMORPG.

Again, a console only MMORPG? That’s unheard of! The MMORPG is a PC genre! You don’t make an MMORPG console only! Just… just stop Square Enix. Just… stop. Go and make the PC version right now.

    • Herok ♞

you say that like the last SE pc mmo did well and it was also supposed to be on ps3….

      • CirnoLakes

PC mmo? That’s a pretty redundant statement in my humble opinion. This Dragon Quest game is the only MMORPG I’ve ever heard of that might even be console exclusive. I don’t say this like that last PC MMO did well, I say this like every other MMO and therefor fans have been on the PC. And making a console only MMORPG is a gamble.

Do you really think that Final Fantasy XIV would have done that much better if it was console only?

        • Herok ♞

No I don’t think it would have done better console only, I was saying it would have done better if it was released on ps3, also I think dreamcast had a few console only mmos but I could be wrong.

  • Akirap

    I don’t get the “Lv. 16” reference.

    • It’s 16 GB.

      • Akirap

Yeah, but was there anything else in game with the lv16 reference?

  • What a piece of crap.

  • Victoria [Rokuso3]

Stupid question: this means you can’t use your own USB drive two times cheaper?

    • Herok ♞

you can you just don’t get the extras.

  • Testsubject909

That shirt is ugly, the USB doesn’t look bad, but honestly for 30$… I’d just go and buy a game with that.

  • Eilanzer

Sry but with Guild Wars 2 around the corner…this almost makes me laugh…
Rly…Dragon quest…MMO…oh god no…please make it stop…What is next…Breath of fire online?! Pffff

  • Visa Vang

Make it 59.99 and add the level up function. No one would complain, I know I wouldn’t.

  • I can’t be the only who thinks the picture of the character wearing the shirt is amazing, right? I mean, just look at the thumbs up he’s giving. :P
