Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers takes place in a virtual reality world called Paradigm X. The hero hacks into the world and installs a devil summoning program, which gives him access to a "gun computer" called a GUMP. Demons begin appearing in the real world and now you have to solve what’s really going on in Paradigm X.

Hitomi is the hero’s childhood friend and apartment roommate. At a young age, Hitomi lost her mother. Her father, an archeologist, was often away so her grandmother raised her. Hitomi gets caught up in events with the hero and is possessed by…

… Nemissa. Nemissa takes over the Hitomi’s body with a loud and uninhibited personality. From time to time, Hitomi’s meek personality surfaces and the two consciousnesses battle for the same body.

Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is a port of a Sega Saturn game, but Atlus is polishing it by shortening the loading times and adding a new intro move from Satelight. Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers comes out for Nintendo 3DS on August 30.

I want the Spookies logo as a custom graffiti tag in JSR HD.

I’m glad I’m wasn’t the only one thinking that.

  • Darkrise

When I say the word GUMP, I immediately thought of 80-90′s cheesy cartoon, especially the first pic.

You’re first thought honestly wasn’t Forrest?!

      • Julien_N

        Run, Forrest, run!
        That brings back some memories…~

Ugh, if there’s one game out there I want localized for 3DS, it’s this one.

At the same time, it would be kinda sad to see Gemini’s translation become kinda obsolete.  I’m sure both would be enjoyed though.

    • Victoria [Rokuso3]

Gemini said he’ll continue with it, so we’ll be able to play both versions. I don’t own a 3DS so I’m really happy about that =D

This is good news, thanks for sharing!

My 3DS is going to be so happy now.

I’ve been thinking about Devil Summoner on and off lately and was wondering if Atlus was going to put out anymore games for it. Nice to see the very first one is get a remake though.

    • cj_iwakura

This is actually the second game. The original was just ‘Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner’, also on the Saturn(not nearly as good as this).

      • https://twitter.com/A_Beast_of_Prey Equinox K

Nuts, wasn’t paying attention when I said that xD. If anything it will be nice to see when and if this game comes cross seas.

  • usagi_san

Nemissa can hack my 3DS, anytime. *blush*

Ahem… On a serious note, DS Overclocked, DS 2 and just waiting for this to get the thumbs up; my 3DS is going to be sooooo happy.

    • Christopher Nunes

I recently got SMT:DS2 for my DS though it seems easier than the original SMT:DS 1 game (I have the 3DS Overclocked version)… maybe because I have a 4th party member of the time as opposed to three for the good first half of the game.

Anyway is SMT:DS2 getting a remake for the 3DS like the original SMT:DS?

      • Julien_N

I don’t think DeSu2 OC will happen. Aside from the voice acting, there is nothing to add to DeSu 2, while the first one lacked the compendium for instance.
As for the difficulty, it could also be linked to the variety of characters available. Some are very specialized and you get them quite early (Jungo is a physical beast for example)

        • Christopher Nunes

I noticed… some have absurd stats at their level (LV18 and 31 for STR? Damn!)

Hmm… well I’m not sure who to get first for the ending, however I think Airi or Makoto. I love Tsundere girls, but Makoto is pretty cool too!

I didn’t even know the original DeSu 1 game had no Compendium to save your Demons and their stats. Huh, I guess that’s way the OC version is better but it’s still kicking my butt with the stuff! And sadly I got Haru to die because I picked ONE single line that wasn’t the correct one and BOOM! I saved because of a boss fight or something, but I wish I hadn’t… now I have to beat the game and try it again to save her. At least this time I know what to pick.

      • boundries_san

Well DS2 is damn easy because of Compendium here and to be honest the boss even Alice herself is too easy lol.

If u want more difficulties, u should play the first playthrough with Anguished One path with no social link build. I Guarantee u that path will be a hell path lol.

And all thanks to Ghoslight :D

    • Julien_N

Can’t wait to play this on my 3DS as well! =D
I also really dig Nemissa’s design. The whole cast is very stylish in fact, and the game’s cool setting increases their appeal.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

THIS WOULD MAKE AN AWESOME ANIME

  • dahuuuundge

Now this is one SMT remake I look forward to. Can we please have SMT5, Raidou 3, and Persona 5 now?

    • http://twitter.com/WarbossAohd Warboss Aohd

i fink dey is working on Persona 5

  • Saraneth

Is it just me, or does the graphics look great for such an old game? From what I’ve seen, it’s more visually appealing than Persona 2.

    • Tom_Phoenix

I think it’s actually a remake and not just an updated port.

    • malek86

We haven’t seen almost any actual gameplay screenshots yet (the screens here are almost all from cutscenes and still shots… guess why they picked them up instead of actual dungeon shots…). But the few ones we’ve seen, show that the graphics have remained the same as the Saturn version.

Which isn’t bad, mind you, it was pretty much on par with Persona 1 (can’t really compare it with P2 as that one didn’t have first-person dungeons). But don’t be expecting huge draw distances or sneazy perspective correction. Or even actually good graphics. The game was pretty low budget, I guess.

    • boundries_san

Well this game does release on Sega Saturn lol.^^

  • Göran Isacson

Have to admit I really dig the character designs here… even if it looks like you just see them in cutscenes. Ah well, that’s old school for you.

    • revenent hell

Old school has its place me thinks

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Morandi/100000837836996 Daniel Morandi

    Nemissa <3

  • revenent hell

I want…Very badly. If I wasnt buying the 3DS for KH3d I would so buy it for this period.

    • boundries_san

Even though it is still raw?

      • revenent hell

hmm im not sure what you mean by raw …If you mean how the game plays I like oldschool since I am part of that catagory myself so that dosent matter to me and is actually a preferance. Perhaps if you explain what “raw” meant I couuld answer but “raw” in itself can be taken many ways and I dont know wich one you mean in this case,It could even be meant because the game is as of yet not released and as is…so…

        • boundries_san

Lol i mean there are no info about this game coming here yet. So even if it already released, are u going to buy the “Japanese” edition here?

Not to forget that u also need Japanese 3DS here.(Sorry for the language before lol. I thought i am speaking on movie or manga here.)

          • revenent hell

Ahhhhh Like you said I would need the Japanese 3DS and since I dont even own my “local” version of one that wouldnt happen….and frankly since most SMT games eventually get a  localised version im not very worried that by some odd chance this one wouldnt be,since anything “Devil” related is labeled Shin Megami Tensei here I just called it SMT,so it being needed to import isnt a high priority for me since im about  100% sure it’ll release here. Granted theres always an odd chance it might be overlooked but I still dont think that will happen in this case and now that its being ported to the 3ds there is even a higher likelyhood of it happening so worrying about importing it is a non issue for me,soul hackers was never released here so this being ported is kind of a reason to actually release it I think. I tend not to like importing games like this because the storey aspect matters, well to me anyways, and I dont like it being lost and since I dont understand to much Japanese I do try not to import games where the storey is a major factor in me wanting to play a game. Ive dont that befor with most frustrating results choosing options are not fun when you dont know what they are.

  • boundries_san

Atlus…… i am waiting for ur announcement on E3 here.^^ Don’t disapointment me here lol.

  • http://zysets.tumblr.com/ NaruKami

I want a US release! PLEASE ATLUS PLEASE! I wish the 3DS wasn’t region locked

  • l777l

Region-locking the 3DS was such a great idea, Nintendo.

    • Anesia Hunter

It’ll probably get localized anyways though. >_>
