Square Enix’s Gyrozetter Is An RPG On The Nintendo 3DS

By Ishaan . May 31, 2012 . 10:30am

Remember Square Enix’s Gyrozetter? They announced their brand new Transformers-like franchise late last year, revealing that they had big plans to take it in all sorts of directions, including games, anime, manga and toys. Why Transformers? Because Gyrozetter has cars that transforms into robots, and the arcade game’s cabinets themselves transform as well.

Gyrozetter isn’t just an arcade game, though. You may recall that Square Enix also announced a Nintendo 3DS version of the game. Today, they revealed that the 3DS version will take place in the same world as the rest of the franchise, but will have its own story and is being labelled an RPG. Take a look at screenshots of the game below:

Gyrozetter for the Nintendo 3DS will be released sometime in Spring 2013. Square Enix say the game will feature online play. Meanwhile, the arcade version of Gyrozetter will be released on June 21st, 2012.

Incidentally, in case you forgot, Square Enix have also registered a Gyrozetter trademark in Europe for use with videogames, toys and comics.

Was there supposed to be a PS3 version as well, if I remember correctly?

Anyways, I love Transformers (bar the Michael Bay films), I love anime, I love RPGs and I own a 3DS. All that’s left to say – in the revised words of Keima Katsuragi, “I can see the localization.”

    • puchinri

I was thinking that too. But maybe they scrapped it? Or they’re being hush hush about it for whatever reason.

      And; this. ♥
      . . .Well, I don’t own a 3DS yet. But I’m so getting that purple.

      • usagi_san

I remember seeing screenshots of the arcade version and thought it would be nice to have a home console version. I hope it’s still just “hush hush” as you said.
Yes, get that purple 3DS. It looks sooooo awesome.

        • puchinri

          Right~!? I’m gonna buy it up. ;u;

    • Farid Belkacemi

Nope, “just” two games : arcade and 3DS :p

      • usagi_san

Well, a guy can still dream, can’t he? :D

    • boundries_san

      I never heard of PS3 version here.^^

I only remember that Gyrozetter is coming for arcade and 3DS.^^

  • Cute graphics, I’m still very interested in this so don’t let me down SquareE~
Wonder how they’ll make use of the car and robot mode storywise.

    • I just have to say… ENDOU ICON :DDDDDDD

  • Yeah, this isn’t coming Stateside.

I mean, yeah, I have high expectations of Square-Enix these days, but an anime-style transforming robot game would never come Stateside. It’d be a hit, of course, but you couldn’t convince their marketing department otherwise.

    • Don’t be so sure. The portable market skews younger in the west and this is exactly the kind of thing that attracts the kiddies.

The anime poster looks pretty hot (if I recall the anime is coming October, hopefully Crunchyroll gets it). Main character and the other dude look pretty cool, while I dont know whats going on with the girl. For all the media, I cant wait to see how the battle graphics and visuals look.

    Uaaah~ (*´▽`*)

I was looking forward to news about Gyrozetter, I remember when it was first covered that it would be coming to the 3DS, I was really excited! I saw the arcade version, and I thought it looked awesome, and the 3DS game does, too! (>y<)

The first screenshot with the robots looks awesome, I like the style, and I love the white robot on the right crossing its arms like a boss! Looks epic!

What really has me interested is the online play, and the modes it could possibly bring. I mean, obviously there are battles, but it seems like you can drive around, too!

It would be amazing if you can race online to a certain destination, and then when you reach the goal, you transform and battle it out! Or there could be like an elimination type race, where you race with 6 or so cars, and then the last place gets eliminated until there are two players left, and you battle it out! Time trials would be great, too! (ノ>▽<。)ノ

2-on-2 team battles, or free for all battles would be great, too! Especially if they are in a city, it could be real hectic, getting cover behind buildings. Though, it’s most likely turn-based, so that’s a bit much! Either way, battles would be great!

    Looks really promising! (◕‿◕✿)

    • puchinri

Tee hee, I loved that robot too! He has the boss thing down. >u<

I was thinking that as well! It'd be fun to have online modes where you have battles and racing, and to see how far they take it. (Free for all only? Team races or battles?)

Those ideas are really cool too!

You made me even more excited for this game~! ♥

  • A Shonen-genre Robot RPG on 3DS? Uh oh~ Looks like Medabots just got a rival~

And hey, Furigana text again! Guess that will make this game relatively importable. [Rimshot]

    • You forget that LBX is also on 3DS. But given that launches like 2 weeks after Pokemon BW2 it’ll not be a problem.

    • boundries_san

      U forget Danball Senki there.^^

  • puchinri

Loving the art style and designs, and the game just looks really good and really pretty. I cannot wait for it to come out! And hopefully, they’ll localize it, though I feel like it has a good chance of it so I’m not too worried.

  • Shadowman

Sweet. I’ll take one once it release into the state.

  • Really cool. My favorite anime genre getting so much gaming exposure recently, that’s really cool. I hope that Square will at least contemplate releasing the 3DS game in North America, it seems interesting and I’m excited to find out more about it.

  • And so creativity went outside the window along with my sanity.

    • usagi_san

“And so creativity went outside the window…”

So you don’t find this interesting, or something?

I’m glad to see SE are creating a new IP that they hope to build into a brand. I can see the potential for it to do well in Japan, I hope this series gets enough attention from its target audience here in the west

  • Farid Belkacemi

Sweet, another day one ! :D

  • LynxAmali

I’m getting Galaxy Force/ Cybertron flashbacks.

I’m getting the vibes that this is a game based on the Speed World, the first planet they visit.

An entire game dedicated to that? DO WANT.

    • Solomon_Kano

For as much as I felt apathy for Cybertron, the Speed World was fudging awesome.

  • pgover

An RPG with cars that transform into robots, I am so down with that. I’m really hoping it comes to North America. With the Gyrozetter franchise heading to Europe there is hope for NA but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  • Nauj Ibarra

Square Enix FINALLY makes another RPG with cars? I’m looking forward to it. I’ve always loved Racing Lagoon from the PSX. I wish they’d have localized that. But I expect this one’s a lot tamer than Racing Lagoon seeing as this is targeted for the younger audiences?

  • Solomon_Kano

My interest just shot up. I was expecting something a bit closer to the arcade version (which I dearly wish I could try), but this is better.

  • ShinGundam

Do want!! World map + cars.
Even thought i would be more excited if world and characters looks a bit more edge-y and darker.

    • Rolling Guy

Try Racing Lagoon by Square Soft. It’s a classic but one of the best of it’s time. I’m sure you won’t regret it. :)

  • Code

Something about this looks very static, maybe it’s the backgrounds or something, but hopefully it’s just early screens uwu; I’m glad to see the concept make it outside of arcades in some capacity.

  • boundries_san

Ohhh!!! This, Medabots, Danball Senki really replenish my hope for more mecha game.^^

Now i can only to hope all the three title will get localized.^^(Which the chances is quite high,^^ as all the publishers is quite a big company.^^ LV-5,SQ,Natsume.)

  • Göran Isacson

A question: does it count as “humans overtaking the cool transforming robots” if the robots share the spotlight from the start?

Because for some reason I’m seeing these human characters, and even if I don’t even know if the robots have personalities to begin with, I STILL want to see the bots more than I want to see the humans.
