Atlus USA Will Publish Code of Princess In North America

By Ishaan . June 4, 2012 . 3:32am

Earlier today, we reported that a North American publisher had picked up Nintendo 3DS brawler, Code of Princess, for release in the U.S. We can now confirm that the publisher is Atlus USA. Atlus will release Code of Princess sometime this fall.

Developed by members of the team that produced Guardian Heroes for the Sega Saturn, Code of Princess is a brawler that features four playable characters in the game’s singleplayer mode, but also lets you play as enemies and even villagers in its multiplayer mode.

Pre-ordering Code of Princess at select retailers will net you a Sound & Visual Books, containing a collection of art from Kinu Nishimura, who created the game’s world, and soundtrack music from ACE.

  • Awesome, thank you Atlus~ <3

  • boundries_san

Once again Atlus proving to the saviour for the West.^^

Hope that this game will suceed here and attract many game companies to see that 2dbeat’em up genre is still profitable.^^(This is directly for u Sega.^^ Bare Knuckle and Golden Axe series is just a too great series to let them die like that.T_T)

    • Farid Belkacemi

Since when the West is “just” the USA ? There’s no Atlus in Europe :p

  • Can Atlus get any better??
I bet this is not all, they still have a ton of things for us!!!

    • boundries_san

      Wutt??? U forget about SMT 4 already?lol.^^

      • They will have all of our money!!!!

        • boundries_san

          All Hail ATLUS!!!!^^

  • Adrián Benítez

     C’mon, European release!!!!

    • boundries_san

I believe Ghostlight will come to rescue u guys there.^^

      • Adrián Benítez

         I hope so

        • boundries_san

Don’t give up hope my fellow gamers.^^

  • SirRichard

Here’s hoping someone picks it up from them for Europe.

  • How many titles did Atlus announced so far??? I’ve lost count….

    • Persona 4 Golden
      Persona 4 Arena
      Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
      Dragon’s Crown
      Code of Princess
      And many many!!!

      • Yeah… That’s what I thought… No wonder I lost count… -___-

Edit: The fact that Atlus can handle these many titles is impressive indeed….

      • boundries_san

While i don’t want to be a bummer,^^ I hope that having too many project won’t cause their quality to falls as sometimes Atlus themselves should also tried to limit the number of project they are doing.^^

While I get your point, a lot of those listed games are pretty much finished in localization or not too difficult.

Gungnir is done, game is going to be out next week.  Growlanser has gotta be nearly complete too, coming next month.  P4 Golden must be well into the process, plus the core game has been officially translated once already.  As a fighter, P4 Arena has less to localize.  And even stuff like Code of Princess and Dragon’s Crown are less localization-intensive than something like a full RPG.

Or am I just rationalizing because I also want them to be able to localize Soul Hackers, SMT4, and P2: Eternal Punishment Portable? :)

  • Code

Not surprised it got picked up by somebody, but I’m pleased to hear Atlus grabbed it owo; Looks like I have yet another reason to get a 3DS sometime soon owo; Plus from the sounds of it, I might actually have local players to co-op with in this >w<~!

    • Now if only Nintendo would release a good version of the 3DS with symmetrical dual analog nubs and better battery life. :

      • Yamaneko22

And without regional blockade :P That’s what I hate the most in 3DS…

        • Totally forgot about that! That is also my most hated “non-feature”.

      • boundries_san

        CPP already exist there.^^

        •  CPP is not symmetrical. Left handed players need a symmetrical system.

      • Code

Yeahh, agreed, also agree with @Yamaneko22:disqus below, a regional free 3DS would be nice. But I think the best we can hope for is a second stick and a better battery, I don’t expect Nintendo to change it’s policy on regional locking.

  • This is cool, but I’m disappointed by Atlus’s two other announcements. I’m really hoping for Soul Hackers and Etrian Odyssey IV announcements.

    • Which other games were announced?

      • Sherlock Holmes and Zeno Clash 2. You should have gotten the emails for all 3 of these games if you are part of the Atlus Faithful.

    • Hating Ass Nigga

Etrian Oddyssey 4 I could see happening soon,I think it is abit too early to see anything on an English Soul Hackers.

  • I imported this and Theathrythm :(

Oh well, at least I got the pre-order bonuses (which I know see will also be available in the US). Really want to play through CoP in a language I can actually understand. My online gripe is that the gameplay is really, really slow. Should not be played straight after playing Senran Kagura.

  • DurrD

As a European, thank you so much Nintendo for not allowing me to play video games.

    • puchinri

It might get picked up by someone in EU~. Lets all hope, right?
(I certainly didn’t expect it to be picked up here.)

    • Herok ♞

Really it seems like Nintendo seems to like Europe Right now:

  • Zonic505

Huzzah for Atlus for not only bringing this over, but also announcing a pre-order bonus as well! Great way to start the E3 morning.

  • Yamaneko22

What about Europe? 3DS has region lock :(

    • Alexander Aubert

      ghostlight maybe?

  • MrKappa

Atlus to the rescue, if only they would also announce Senran Kagura.
But I was happy to see this Atlus got this so…

    • z_merquise

I was suppose to use that Daniel Bryan GIF if ever Sega announced an English localization of Valkyria Chronicles 3 but you beat me to it.

      Anyway . . . Yes! Yes! YES!!!!!

    • puchinri

I still want them to announce Nora.

  • Finally got up and and checked my email to see I got couple of messages from Atlus about Zeno Clash 2 and Code of Princess coming stateside. Basically my reaction.

    • Indeed! I also saw the emails. The Code of Princess one really, really made my day. :)

  • Also I’m just going to throw this out there, I predict the game is coming out around October stateside. My birthday is ready ಠ uಠ.

    • AzureNova

O_O, my birthday is in October too =)

  • Luna Kazemaru

    *insert bison yes video*

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Hah, congratulations to you guys. CoP is a fantastic game, you’re gonna love it. I hope it sells well in the US.

  • Alexander Aubert

  • Cameron Ward

    any release date info?

  • We have to give credit to sites like Siliconera and Andriasang for covering this game. Yeah. This game and all those other games that the major gaming blogs out there may never run a story about. If it wasn’t for these 2, perhaps most of us wouldn’t know anything about these games and thereby not increasing fan interest.

    • Actually Destructroid runs some decent articles on indie and eastern games too, along with on occasion. Have to give them credit as well :3 . But yeh, if developers go to where people show interest in these games, we see them coming out on other platforms or in other parts of the world.

  • eilegz

very good news, this are kind of game that fit and work very well for a portable, its too bad that nintendo region lock its device, but its so good to see that companies its trying harder to bring this kind of games to the west….

  • kylehyde

I love you Atlus, I really love you. You guys are my heroes.

  • Locklear93

If only it were multiplatform.  I’d probably buy this, but I don’t own a 3DS, and wihout at least ONE other game for it that I want, I’m not interested in the system.  Unfortunately, the only other games for the 3DS to interest me were Senran Kagura and Love Plus, neither of which I expect to see localized.

  • Day one.

  • XypherCode

    Cheers to Atlus! :D

  • Jose Antonio Escamilla Ramirez

    Senran Kagura please

  • Atlus, no amount of words can say how much I love you right. More 3DS games is always a good thing. *w*

  • cj_iwakura

One step closer to Soul Hackery.

  • This is exciting news. And thanks to all the coverage on this site, it seems like there will already be a pretty large fanbase picking it up when it releases. I for one will preorder the game just to make sure that I support this release.

  • Darkrise

Senran Kagura needs to be localized =(

But other than that, DAMMIT! I need a 3DS now!!!!

    • AzureNova

      Don’t forget about 7th Dragon 2020 as well =)

I know what your all gonna say, but at this point I just want one of the epic companies to localize it lol

      • BRS: The Game anyone? Conception?

        • AzureNova

Yes those as well. Actually BRS was already supposed to be coming to the US. Either way, for now I will just enjoy my imported Limited Editon Premium White Box  of BRS sitting on my dresser until the English one is released =^_^=

          • Locklear93

My best friend attended NISA’s panel at Anime North, and I got him to ask about BRS for me.  He said the room kind of got animated when he asked (that is, there was interest in the crowd), but all NISA had to say at the moment was that they’re working on it, but had nothing to announce yet.

  • Ladius

Fantastic news, not only I love this game, but this is yet another step in Atlus USA’s return to niche localizations (and this isn’t even an Atlus Japan-published game, unlike Growlanser and Gungnir!).

Now I wonder if Ghostlight will pick up this game for the European market, those niche games are the instances where having region locks is really a shame since there is no European Atlus branch and no guarantee someone will pick it up : In the last gen there were a lot of Atlus USA DS games left unpublished in Europe, it would have been really sad if they wouldn’t have been playable.

    • Julien_N

Devil Survivor (1 “vanilla”), Strange Journey, Izuna 2, the Dark Spire, Rondo of Swords, Knights in the Nightmare, Etrian odyssey 2 & 3…yep, that’s plenty of very interesting games that required an import. I hope Ghostlight will be able to pick up most if not all the 3DS titles published by ATLUS.

  • Awesome, I’ll be sure to pick this up. I’ve been following it for a while and it looks awesome.

  • AzureNova

When I got the email I was just like OOOOOOOooooooooo!

  • SolidusSnake

Totally buying it for the sexy zombie girl.

    • rebecasunao

    • ……………

  • Syltique

Syltique will purchase Code of Princess from Atlus in North America, sometime this fall.

  • Brimfyre

Joy!  One down on my ridiculous list!

  • puchinri

    HYES! Wahoo~!

I’m going to try and convince my boyfriend to put a preorder on it today or tomorrow! I’m really glad this game is going to be released~. I hope it does well enough here.

  • Spider-Man

Simply glorious, now for that Senran Kagura Burst.

  • raymk

Very Very Happy =D.  Can’t say I was surprised that it was atlus to the rescue again.  Atlus are on a roll lately though and they trying to make that money.

  • Okay, okay. We all know Atlus is famous for publishing games that they know might not be the most profitable things in the world, and we LOVE THEM for it.

However, this game is on a whole other level of obscurity. There’s no way they think they’re gonna make a profit here–Which reminds me, if we could get this, why couldn’t we get Nora and the Time Studio?

    • Barrylocke89

Most likely because they were shifting more of their resources to the newer consoles. Devil Survivor 2 got released but it’s part of a series that has shown to have success in the west.

    • Ladius

I honestly don’t see why, aside from brand awareness (and that’s a rather tricky subject in our niche, Dept Heaven and Growlanser may have their vocal fanbases on web sites, but that doesn’t mean much in terms of sales) a side-scroller beat’em up can appeal both to long-time fan of the genre and to fans of action games. Considering it has some jrpg elements, imho CoP could very well be a decent niche hit, especially considering 3DS is still a young platform in terms of niche software and the game has been praised by many importers.

If anything this game is less niche than many Atlus USA Ds releases, and it’s normal that they try to explore new venues now that they’re moving to new hardwares.

  • LynxAmali

    Call me when they announce the localization of OG2nd. Which they probably won’t as they hate the SRT fanbase. ;_;

Great news either way. I fear though, that this won’t make a profit and they won’t bring out any further titles if they make a sequel.

  • Rollersnake

Ooh, didn’t realize this was a 3DS exclusive.  Well, this’ll probably get me to buy a 3DS finally—I’ve been wanting a successor to Guardian Heroes for ages.  (Advance Guardian Heroes doesn’t count.)

  • brian yep

I’m pretty surprised, even though I guessed it was Atlus.
It seems to me like something Aksys or NISA would bring out.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Oho? Sold and pre-ordered.

  • countupyoursins

    Whenever I get a 3DS, I’ll probably get this.

    All Zozo, all the time.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Ishaan’s Tweet about CoP being the top story is hilarious.  I thought he knew his audience, lol!

    • mirumu

Well, it does look like the popularity ranking might be slow to update, but I can’t say I was too surprised. I think there’s been a bit of pent-up demand for a localized CoP.

    • I’m positive the Popular bar is taking time to update! I mean, of course I know SE’s audience, but Resident Evil 6 and DmC are no slouches. On a typical day, they make everything else look low in comparison.

  • AnimusVox

Haha gotta admit I didnt think we’d get this.

  • Tom_Phoenix

I’ll be honest, I’m kind of suprised that this game is going to get localised. It’s an extremely niché game with an unestablished brand and a complete lack of Western appeal. Then again, it is a brawler, so it probably doesn’t have as much text as some of the other Japanese games do.

Still, props to Atlus USA for being willing to tackle such a small project.

  • Go2hell66

Atlus never let  me down, i _>
