In The Amazing Spider-Man, Scorpion Is Created Using The Venom Symbiote

The Amazing Spider-Man takes some interesting liberties with the cast of Spider-Man characters and their origins, according to an IGN report. You may recall that Oscorp, Norman Osborn’s company, is featured rather prominently in trailers for both the game and the movie. In the game, Oscorp seemingly has ties to a few other Spider-Man villains as villains as well.

IGN report that The Amazing Spider-Man’s version of Scorpion is created by Dr. Otto Octavius (eventually turning into Dr. Octopus in other continuities). Octavius decides to continue Curt Conners’ research. While Conners injected himself with lizard DNA and turned into the Lizard, Octavius injects human DNA into a highly venomous black fat-tailed scorpion.

That isn’t all, though. Along with human DNA, Octavius also throws in a dash of a mysterious, organic “black goo” that Oscorp retrieved from one of their fallen satellites. Hmm. That sounds an awful lot like the Venom symbiote…

Something to note is that neither Dr. Octavius nor the black goo appear in either the Amazing Spider-Man movie or game. Activision released these details simply to establish a back story for the Scorpion character.

um this is interesting they probably have more planned we dont know about.

    A FEW LIBERTIES?

    More like a lot.

And I do like where it’s going.

  • TheCynicalReaper

In other news, Galactus is now the result of a failed experiment involving a dimensional rift,  Rhino’s suit, and one of the Avengers falling into a vat of symbiotes Dr. Richards, who in other continuities was Mr. Fantastic but here is a lonely widower with no family ties whatsoever, discovered on an expedition in…Wisconsin? Yeah, sure, Wisconsin. Why not?

Welp, just filled out my Mad Lib! Now to take it to Beenox and get my writer’s credit for this game.

  • Solomon_Kano

I actually like where they’re going with this. Pretty interesting way of tying things together. Let’s hope they don’t get TOO out of hand making everything spiral out from Oscorp though.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Ultimate Spider-Man was kind of like that, wasn’t it? I thought it was kind of cool, actually, how there’s this one organization that corrupts everything it touches.

      • Solomon_Kano

It was, to an extent, and I did enjoy Ultimate. I just don’t want them to repeat that here. Or rather, not in this fashion, where every villain starts as some Oscorp experiment. For all the ties to Oscorp in Ultimate, the villains had rather varied backgrounds.

Plus the evil corporation thing is starting to wear on me as a whole. The way it’s presented in what they’ve shown of the ASM movie made it seem like the company had secrets, not necessarily that it was evil. The game? Evil company.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Yeah, I see what you mean about the corporation having secrets. That having been said, I do remember one of the movie trailers with someone asking Dr. Connors in this really sinister voice: “Did you tell the boy about his father?”

I just sort of assumed that was Norman. Maybe he isn’t the Goblin just yet, but obviously, they’re building up to it…

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, that bit in the trailer is still puzzling. I don’t think it was Norman though. He looked kinda… old.

  • Zetsomaru

    This isn’t too bad.
The original Scorpion was a product of scientific experimentation and I’m pretty sure one of his many incarnations ended up as Venom in Marvel Knights. Though I am a bit disappointed that they’re unveiling the symbiote in the video game rather than say, a movie sequel.

    • Sperium3000

After Spider-Man 3 botched Venom, I doubt the new continuity will come any close to it.

      • Zetsomaru

Haha! Yeah. That film was terrible.
However, it’s not necessarily Venom I want to see. I think the many ways the Symbiote affects Peter’s life makes this a very interesting saga.

Like, say if they went the Ultimate route just as they seem to be doing: Gwen would end up as Carnage and that could very well tie into Nick Fury and the Avengers initiative.

        • Solomon_Kano

“and that could very well tie into Nick Fury and the Avengers initiative.”

Abandon all hope. No matter what story they go with for a possible symbiote inclusion, that’s not happening. Has to do with studio rights and what not. While it’s entirely possible that Sony and Marvel Studios could work out a deal and make that possible, it’s very unlikely.

Sony can’t touch anything Avengers and Marvel Studios can’t touch anything Spidey. Just like Fox has X-Men, FF, and Daredevil walled off from the both of them. Rights issues and whatnot.

          • Zetsomaru

It could happen. Studios aren’t bitter gang rivals or anything.
That was just an example of all the possibilities (plot-wise) that come with the symbiote story arch.

          • Solomon_Kano

“While it’s entirely possible that Sony and Marvel Studios could work out a deal and make that possible, it’s very unlikely.”

      • Christopher Nunes

Honestly I was happy to hear Venom making an appearance in the movie… but I wish they could’ve handle it better! You barely got to see Venom at all in the end!

Hopefully the new reboot series does a better job with Venom appearing, and possibly Carnage. I like to see movie versions of them!

        • Solomon_Kano

Somehow I feel that, if anybody ever touches Carnage, he won’t be done in a satisfying way. Spider-Man is a kid friendly franchise, but Carnage is decidedly unfriendly in that regard. I don’t think the studio would let him be done in a way that would let him keep what makes him so cool.

          • Revorse

I kinda know what you mean. After the first SpiderMan movie, all I wanted was to see Carnage. But as time went on I figured either they can’t find anyone to play Carnage or he’s just not easy to place into the movies.

          • Christopher Nunes

You never know, hopefully the reboot Spider-Man movie series will feature Carnage as it’s going to a much more darker route and they’re staying closer to the comics. I’m sure they’ll find someone perfect to play Carnage and I expect him in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 as a villain… seeing the symbiote introduce so early in the story I expect to see Venom and Carnage soon.

          • Solomon_Kano

            Yea, he’s a tough one.

          • Christopher Nunes

Maybe something similar to the Dark Knight’s Joker in terms of personality and behavior? I mean I expect Carnage, well at least his human side to be a disturb and psychotic (like Kynar from the new Thundercats 2011 series) talking to himself and having fun talking about his “work” and the thrill of doing it and his symbiote form would just be disturbing as well… playing with his enemies and enjoy how much they struggle, laughing in their face, and telling his victims how he’s going to kill them and such.

Never now until they get someone good and understands the Carnage character to do him justice in the movie version. I mean even the cartoon Spider-Man show, which was kid-friendly and had no real deaths (due to rules and such to air it), and Carnage came out crazy and scary even in a kid show.

Though I understand how you feel… they didn’t do Venom justice in Spider-Man 3 the movie and he didn’t really get much screen time and establish himself as a terrifying and powerful villain.

          • Solomon_Kano

Hm… that would be an interesting way to go about it, but to really do him justice it would need to be really fresh. That would take the right actor. Carnage as is definitely won’t work, though your point about him in the cartoon does stand. Heck, that’s where I know him from.

  • Christopher Nunes

I pray that Venom and Carnage appear in the sequels to “The Amazing Spider-Man” movie series! I love those guys! Greatest Spider-Man villains!

Also this is an interesting backstory for the Scorpion in the game! I wonder if the Symbiotes will be introduce later in the movies!

I heard that the cast from the movie won’t be voicing their respective characters in this game. Not really sure if that’s a “yay” or “nay” until i hear the voiceover work for the game, though.
