Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D Could Have Sold Even More

By Ishaan . June 8, 2012 . 10:55am

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D sold 513,000 copies when it was released in Japan last week. Here’s how that stacks up against the Dragon Quest Monsters games on the Nintendo DS:

(2006) Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker – 593,994

(2010) Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 – 623,643

Terry’s Wonderland 3D didn’t outsell either of the two Nintendo DS games at launch, but it may have come closer had Square Enix shipped more copies of the game. A report from sales tracker, Media Create, reveals that Terry’s Wonderland 3D sold through 93.96% of its shipment and was sold out at several stores on the day of its release.

Perhaps Square Enix were slightly more conservative with Terry’s Wonderland 3D’s shipment because of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. While that game sold 623,643 copies in its launch week in 2010, that number only represented 66.8% of its initial shipment.

Meanwhile, Level 5’s four-game compilation, Guild 01, which moved 14,790 copies during launch week only sold through 53.16% of its stock. Media Create chalk that up to low awareness of the game among consumers, as indicated by their awareness surveys.

  • awwww man, I was cheering for Guild 01, but hopefully they both continue to sell. I want both of these games in the states soon.

Level 5 is in kind of a bad streak lately, aren’t they?

All their new games haven’t managed to sell all that well.

    • I don’t see Time Travelers selling much either. And it remains to be seen how much of a hold Inazuma still has on the kiddies. We’ll find out soon enough with Inazuma Chrono Stone if Go’s sales were just the result of the 3DS being new hardware or if interest has dropped.

Beyond that, I think Fantasy Life has the best chance of being their next solid game that does well, but there’s still so much about it we don’t know.

  • Well, waddiaknow! A Dragon Quest game selling out in Japan. Must be thursday :3

In all seriousness, I understand why SE didn’t think the game would sell as greatly as it did. They prolly aimed for MH3G first week numbers, and didn’t want to take in any risks. WHile it could have sold more, perhaps it wasn’t worth actually taking that risk?

    •  Its the same reason Pokemon white and black 2 are being released for the nds instead of the 3ds. Console ownership determines the potential for buying the game. If only a million people own a 3ds and only 50% are within your demography then your total sells could be as high as 500000 copies. Since sells of the 3ds arent exactly overwhelming they have to cut back on the amount of games shipped in order to save for losses. With pokemon b&w2 they went with nds so it incorporates both console owners therefore multiplying potential sales since SE went with the 3ds they had a much lower amount of potential buyers for the game hence the lower shipments.

Time to crack out that new Dark Cloud game huh Level-5?

    • This comes up all the time. The Dark Cloud I.P. belongs to Sony, not Level 5.

Once again,T_T I am really sad with the bad sales for Guild-01 here considering recently they also had a rough time with the cabaret Cinderella title. Hoped that Guild 01 will be able sell more next week after DQ drive lower here.^^

Or who knows, if LV-5 brought the game here, i can guarantee that i am going to be one of the first one who will pre-order the game here.^^

While for DQ, congratz to SQ event though this is not something suprising lol.^^
