Street Fighter X Tekken For iOS Stealth Demoed At E3

By Spencer . June 11, 2012 . 11:30pm

sftxHidden in Capcom’s invite only portion of their booth, there was a demo of Street Fighter X Tekken running on an iPad. I spotted the port while waiting for our Resident Evil 6 meeting and briefly tried the mobile phone version out.

Street Fighter X Tekken for iOS is essentially Street Fighter IV Volt. The controls have been simplified with a punch, kick, special, and a tag button. It played… well like Street Fighter X Tekken and before anyone asks the four character demo didn’t have a character select screen.

Even though Street Fighter X Tekken was playable, Capcom didn’t say when or if the game will be available. Would you buy an iOS version of Street Fighter X Tekken?

“Capcom didn’t say when or if the game will be available.”
That’s because it was a tech demo. They showed this off at E3 to see if it would get good press. If it didn’t, they’d scrap it entirely.

Honestly, as much as I love fighting games, after trying both KoF and SF Volt on my iPad (which was really aggravating in itself, because they weren’t Universal apps), it was just very obvious right from the start how much precision was lost, even though they dumbed down the controls. For those not acquainted with the console/arcade ver., or for those not very good with fighting games in general, I guess it could suffice as alternatives, but other than that, I wouldn’t bother.

It’s good that devs are seeing iOS as a viable platform for all sorts of games, but I wish they would keep in mind the strengths, namely it’s touchscreen and all the possible creative inputs possible because of it, and it’s weaknesses, ironically, the lack of precision in virtual controls (some are pretty reliable though, examples are the ones that are tailored specifically for the iOS touchscreen).

I think a port of Punchmania Fist of the North Star 1 & 2 would work

Would i have to download a separate app to unlock characters that are already in the original apps code??

    • Peace Legacy

In-app purchasing are used for that purpose
If it is ALREADY in the original app code, there would be absolutely no reason whatsoever to release a separate unlock app while you can just make it in-app purchasing.
(well, I am not an anti-joke chicken, but jokes have to be accurate to be funny, otherwise, it would be an out-joke)

Meh….I agree with neety….I bought Marvel vs Capcom on the ipad and it was very underwhelming.

I don’t see the point of releasing fighter games on touch-only devices, the controls are damn ankward ._.
