Perhaps This Comparison Of Okami HD And Okami Is More Accurate

By Ishaan . June 21, 2012 . 1:16pm

Earlier in the week, Capcom posted a trailer for Okami HD that briefly showed off a comparison between the PlayStation 2 and high-definition PlayStation 3 version of the game. Today, they’ve released a screenshot comparison. Take a look:

Okami HD will be released as PlayStation Network download title in North America this fall. The game will cost $20.

Never could get past the long intro of the game. When this comes around, I shall give it a new chance. Is it really anything like zelda? I read that on many reviews…

    • Tatsu

Yeah I almost gave up on the tutorial, too; I found it unnecessarily drawn-out for sure. But I noticed that the game really picked up after around the 1 hour mark.

Definitely give it a shot. The rest of the game is really worth playing. It’s similar to Zelda in structure, but everything is very original.

    • Yes, I have to agree the tutorial is long. But dood, once you get out into the open field of exploring from out of town, THEN the game gets really, really good. :)

As for the Legend of Zelda thing, yes, I have to agree. It is like Legend of Zelda. I mean, with all the bosses and enemies you fight plus the powers and brushes you get, it’s like Zelda with a wolf. And dood, Issun! He’s like your Navi but more annoying (he likes getting into cleavages… XD True story.) You should definitely give it a shot. Endure the tutorial and you’ll find out how awesome the game is. Unfortunately, I never got to finish the game. My younger brother did so I’m going to make it a goal and finish Okami in HD.

My favorite game of Capcom (2nd place Asuras Wrath)
The enviroments, the plot, the characters, the brush techniques , THE MUSIC
Its just GREAT, and i cant wait to play it again in HD

    • Bakuryukun

Man I’m totally with you on Okami and Asura’s Wrath being some of Capcoms best and I can’t wait to play this game in HD! <3

    • Arcm

Aww, no Breath of Fire love? But I agree with Okami and Asuras Wrath being some of the best games from Capcom.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Never had the chance to play it on the PS2. Could probably do it right now but I’ll wait for the HD.

  • Mago Iichi

    HD Amaterasu hurts my eyes

    • Triplicity

  • The screens practically glow. <3

  • SirRichard

Looks absolutely gorgeous, they seem to have gotten the visuals right for this one, at least. Rather, it looks good in stills, but we still need to see it in motion (unless I’ve missed a trailer already).

Now if they don’t mess up the sound this time, this should be worth a shot.

    • There was a video in the last Okami article showing the differences between the two.

  • yalissa

The HD version, surprisingly, looks just like the Wii version except with the paper texture. I would get this, but I don’t have a Playstation Move. I guess I’ll just stick with my Wii version :P

    • Barrylocke89

Hmm, on second looking, you’re right, the paper filter does seem to be in effect in the PS3 version.

    • Aztec

PS Move is completely optional! Besides on PS3 you’ll have it in HD unlike in the Wii version.

      • yalissa

Yeah, but I really enjoyed being able to draw out the symbols and whatnot.

  • Barrylocke89

So it actually looks closer to the Wii version of the game. The PS2 version had that paper filter that was actually really cool so I’m honestly not sure which version I think looks better. The colors certainly pop more in the PS3 (and Wii) version though.

  • mirumu

This comparison looks to be going to the other extreme of the trailer. I wish PS2 games actually looked that good on my LED HDTV.

    • Zeik56

Yeah, seriously. If Okami actually looked that good on my HDTV I wouldn’t have ran out and bought the Wii version when I went back to replay it.

  • That;s more like it capcom.

  • Prinnydoom

Looks awesome either way. More inclined towards ps3 though.

  • Capcom – if you did an HD Clover Collection of Okami, God Hand and Viewtiful Joe…
    it would be instant money.

    Make it happen.

  • Visa Vang

I’ll keep my original copy thank you.

  • skymap

I feel like the colors on the original PS2 ver. were understated on purpose and that this is going to end up looking off.

  • deathman00789

Kinda like the ps2 ver more. It gives off a old painting look.

  • Solomon_Kano

The original look is actually nicer. It’s a pity they lost that look, but I can’t honestly say I dislike the new look.

    • DS23

They tried to have a Sumi-E painting style look to the game, I think it’s still there in the HD version personally.

      • Solomon_Kano

It definitely still looks like a Sumi-e painting, but I like the PS2 version’s lighter tone overall. I definitely like how the HD version looks though.

        • komiko12

It gives off an “old painting” look

EDIT: Oh somebody already made the exact statement earlier.

  • Nikolai Sumcad

Hoh man! I sure hope they bring those freebies/limited edition here to NA, too. Would definitely love to have more collectibles of this beautiful game.

  • British_Otaku

It is the PS2 to Wii transfer again. >_>
Since, they are promoting the new look so much, I doubt we will have an option for a less vibrant but more Sumi-e experience… Oh well.

There is no perfect edition for this title for English readers.

  • Nitraion

Well i hope the trophy is not dissapoint like RE 4
i was hopping Capcom give bonuses like extra boss or ability but looks like not gonna happen… but i love this game after all its capcom’s golden days game or should i say clover’s game….

  • Keitaro004

So, in other words… It’s just a bigger screen? The PS2 version still looks awesome by todays standards
