Project X Zone Has Over 200 Characters (And That Doesn’t Count Event Scenes)

By Spencer . June 22, 2012 . 9:35am

imageOK, we get it, Monolith Soft. Project X Zone, the crossover strategy RPG with stars from Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom is packed with characters. Koji Ishitani, producer, wrote on the official Project X Zone blog there are over 200 friends and foes in the game.

In addition to allies from Tales, Street Fighter, and Sakura Wars, players will fight many enemies from key titles too. Last night we saw Firebrand from Ghosts’n Goblins appear as an enemy. That number doesn’t include characters who only make appearances in event scenes, so expect other story-only cameos.

Project X Zone is slated for release sometime this year in Japan.

    WHAT!!! 200 Character!! HHHHNNNGGGGGG!!!!

  • KingGunblader

Well I guess the only question that remains now is how many of those characters will be playable. I’m pretty happy with the roster as is, so it can only get better! :D

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Profit sharing must be a nightmare for this title, I can only imagine.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Not really. Namdai is solely responsible for the development and publishing (as well as any potential localisation) of this game. Capcom and Sega are only involved in the sense that they signed a licensing deal with Namdai. Of course, nobody outside of those three companies knows what exactly that deal entails, but I imagine Namdai already payed for the licenses.

      • KuroiKen

The thing is, while this would probably be popular in the west, Namco will probably hype the price for localization rights to the skies, as they did with
Mugen no Frontier Exceed: Super Robot Taisen OG Saga after the first Mugen no Frontier had a pretty big success in the west, which is the case with Exceed never being localized.
And it was the only localization I’ve been satisfied with in my whole life…
Oh well, will just play in japanese, nothing can help it now.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

This game almost seems too large scale for the 3DS.

  • Manny Being Manny

This might be the kind of game that gets me to buy a 3DS… only if it releases over here though

  • MrRobbyM

Nintendo. Localize this and I swear I’ll get a 3DS XL as soon as I possibly can.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      game on  sir  they better

    • Revorse

I definitely agree with this. At first I thought maybe KH:3D might be a good enough reason to get one but then I changed my mind. Then I saw Yuri and Estelle teaming up with Zephyr and Leanne and I was sold.

    • Actually Namco is the one publishing, I assume Nintendo is still involved thanks to Monolithsoft.

This should be an easy sell, whoever does pick it up.

    • kylehyde

I hope that the recent closeness between nintendo and namco bandai helps with the localization of this title

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Localize this and Soul hackers would be lovely

  • IshimaruKaito

soooo if this doesnt get localized i might have to save up just to get a japanese 3ds….and uhhh i would rele not like to do that as u see….I IZ “DIRT” POOR!!

  • z_merquise

I’m hoping they reveal more characters soon. I really wanted to see Vashyron here now that Zephyr and Leanne were revealed. So we can see him do the “Vashyron Dance” when he see the likes of Kaguya Nanbu, Morrigan and Riela.

Also, I would REALLY like to see some some Platinum Games representative here, whether it’s Bayonetta, Vanquish or Anarchy Reigns, any one of them. C’mon, they’re Sega IP, right?

Don’t forget Date Masamune of Basara and Gene of Godhand, Rent-A-Hero #1, and Kuryu from Yakuza and Ryo from Shenmue (with Lan Di)

      and of course Segata Sanshiro

    • XiaomuArisu

       Grapefruits everywhere!
Why are we the only ones with raisins?!?

  • Cephrien

Still boggles my mind how Sonic and Tails aren’t in this yet.

    • LynxAmali

Because they wouldn’t fit in with the other series? Because they’ve been in every SEGA crossover game ever for the most part?

I really don’t know. And I’m actually somewhat glad they aren’t in it. Just a personal opinion though.

      • Guest

Saying Sonic doesn’t fit seems kinda weird since Klonoa was in NamcoXCapcom

        • LynxAmali

I completely forget about Klonoa. -_-

        • Tom_Phoenix

True, but then again, Klonoa currently isn’t in the game either.

      • British_Otaku

Once, it is a video game crossover (which presents so many franchises from different genres and universes in a single style no less), there isn’t a “He doesn’t fit” excuse.

        • LynxAmali

Considering we have no playable animal characters so far and everything seems to be human based….

          Just an observation.

          • British_Otaku

An observation of what could be the silliest excuse for lacking Sonic (and Klonoa). I really dislike non-greed based game-gimping.

I can say that at least Capcom is making money with their methods. No one is happy if an obvious character (that a company of this trio has been living off) is missed out especially in crossovers.

    • Spirit Macardi

Same here. I mean, what’s the point of getting Sega if you’re not going to include their most popular character?

  • Adrián Alucard

so, there are more than 45 tunes, isn’t it?

  • midgard229

and like that big boobed ninja girl game wont come to america neither will this -_-

  • These are the kinds of games that make people like me wish they knew Japanese.

It sucks that games like this and Super Robot Taisen are usually legally impossible to take outside of Japan

    • British_Otaku

I don’t see the problem with this leaving Japan myself.
It is a mix of video game franchises from a series of different companies and the franchises or games referenced may have not ever reached every region worldwide or in the same form.

  • Yui

    Has Ryu been announced yet?

I just…I need something. Something with blue hair, and the ability to transform into a dragon.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Long as he comes with a sickly little fairy girl. Try to say hi more often kind sir! Give Drakos or I a reason to mod ya!

      • Yui

Hah, yeah, definitely…although I would settle for a mutant onion!
I’ll try to do that, man! I occasionally pop online, but often I don’t really have all that much to share. I do keep an eye on you all, though, haha!

    • Not yet, not sure if ever either~

      • Yui

My heart aches for Capcom’s love once more!
One theory I’ve seen bouncing around is the possibility that Capcom feels resurrecting the series in any shape or form, even in a crossover, would give false hope to its fans. It’s sad that I’d rather have false hope than no hope at all, at this point. Oh well!

        • I understand and share your feelings on this, I’d love for BoF to appear in whatever form once again, I just don’t see it, at least not at this moment. Dx

  • KuroiKen

“-TWO HUNDRED CHARACTERS?! Is This madness?!
-No, this is Project X Zone, sir.”
Now it sounds like Super Robot Taisen and now I’m hyped for the game over 9000 times more.
As soon as pre-orders are opened – you know what I’ll do, hehe.
Just with the announced characters, I already want the game.

  • I hardly EVER import, I’ve got maybe 2-3 Japn games.  But dammit this game makes me wish 3DS was region free like Vita.  Damn you Nintendo.  This would probably be my only Japanese 3DS game.

  • Is this game some kind of rpg? Or a fighter?

It’s a curious game for sure.

    • Covnam

It’s a strategy RPG. I really hope this comes to the US, but I fear for the licensing issues :/

  • aoihana

    All my lovin’~ ლ(‘∀’ლ●)♡

Project x Zone never fails to raise my hype with each passing announcement and article! Now, I just need more awesome character confirmations! Still ecstatic about Selvaria Bles! Can’t wait! (*≧m≦*)

  • Jugiatsu

If you guys havent joined yet be sure to like the Project X Localization page.  We are always looking for new members and the best way to get a game noticed is to talk about it more and more!

  • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

I have to wonder, given licensing issues, realistically, is there any chance of us getting this?  I know that I heard it was a miracle Tatsunoko vs. Capcom got released stateside.
