Tenkaichi Budokai were the best arcs in Dragonball and Dragonball Z, since I just read the series for the first time, am tempted to pick this up to finally experience Dragonball in some animated form, please tell me Future Trunks is actually playable.

  • KHSoraKeyBlade

I already have 2 and 3 on my ps2. I found 2 to be the best but that’s only because of the insane hours I spent on it to unlock everything.

    • LynxAmali

       Had Tiencha and Gocule.

      All arguments are invalid.

  • SLick123456789111

    Finally.
Now this is a DBZ game I’m looking forward towards.

  • sasuke222

I had a feeling these two would be in but no Tenkaichi 3? Ahh well hope they keep the blood in Budokai 1.

    • Internet is Crash

I’d want a Tenkaichi 3 HD as well coz you get to play as Turles and the entire Ginyu Force :)

  • scratchbach

Budokai 3 is one of my favorite games ever (pretty much completely because of nostalgia), so this is pretty cool.

  • Anime10121

Budokai 3, the only DBZ game I think is worth having. Namco

Different games offer things that make them just as good as owning than just Budokai 3.  If gameplay was your prime reason on owning Budokai 3, then there’s Infinite World which is technically the better game.

The original Budokai is worth owning for the detailed story content.  Legacy of Goku 2 follows you through practically the entire storyline after the Freeza Saga in detail as well, another game worth owning as the gameplay really isn’t too bad(but for some reason Buu’s Fury took a step back and had no charge skills like Gohan’s double kick, Trunk’s Sword, or Vegeta’s two handed smash.)

Tenkaichi 3, and Raging Blast are great games that feel more like DBZ than any other game. Tenkaichi 3 over the second because it’s Tenkaichi 2 with a detailed story mode.  In battle cutscenes that change up the battle and make it feel even more like DBZ than any other game.  Raging Blast because of the online.

Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure.  An easy but fun beat em up.

Any game that I get a lot of enjoyment out of is worth having in my opinion.  I don’t play them strictly because one game has better gameplay than the other.  It can have nothing but gameplay(Tenkaichi 2,) but having little content outside of that would make me prefer another game more(Tenkaichi 3.)

      • Anime10121

I get what you’re saying and I rectify my response the only console game I think (emphasis here because its MY opinion) is worth owning.  Im not saying others arent allowed to like Tenkaichi or other games, I’m just saying that to me Budokai 3 was perfect, and the others played like crap (again my opinion).

I remember some of the handheld games were good like the Legacy of Goku series, and looking further back Legends (JP only) for PsOne was great too.

Ive played Infinite World and feel that it changed a little to much from the Budokai template, so I didnt care much for that game either.

All’s I’m saying is that Budokai 3 in my opinion, is the only good game to come out of that series in years.

  • http://ggftw.com/forum/ Monkey_T

Why not Budokai 2? That game had kickass music and fusions.

  • SirRichard

Well, this is a nice surprise! Dragon Ball Z got its first UK DVD release ever a few days ago as well, there’s just Dragon Ball love coming from everywhere this year.

  • darkfox1

    Why not all three though?

    • Go2hell66

doesn’t fit on the xbox 360 discs

      • http://twitter.com/VXLbeast VXLbeast

        Huh, good thought.

      • kupomogli

This or they’re lazy.  Maybe a little of both.  More money porting over two games than porting over three games and will save from requiring a second disc for the 360 content.  However, just think if they did do two discs.  The 360 could actually have higher quality audio Budokai 3 and then have Budokai 1 and 2 on a single disc.

Microsoft at it again ruining everything.

    online?

    • SLick123456789111

       Prolly not.

  • kupomogli

Even though Budokai 2 is more like Budokai 1.5, sad to see that they don’t have that as well.  You won’t find Gokule or Tiencha in any other game in the series, or in the series for that matter.  Either they’re lazy or they just wanted to port the best two.  The third game is the best in the series when it comes to gameplay for sure, and then the original has the best storyline with detailed cutscenes before and after each and every battle.

Also no Infinite World either.  In some ways Infinite World was better than Budokai 3, other ways it was worse.  I really liked the game, though.

Or since technically it’s a Budokai game in the US, they could have released Budokai, Budokai 3, and Budokai Tenkaichi 3, but I’m guessing they want to rerelease Tenkaichi HD Collection for more money later on.

If these games include online then I’ll probably pick it up. If not, I won’t bother. I already own the PS2 versions and I’m fine with upscaled 4:3 on my PS3.

  • Jaikaru

Budokai 3 is the best of all DBZ games! Also liked Infinite World because of the similar battle system. Actually played Budokai 3 a while ago and it still looks pretty nice. Maybe I’ll get the HD Collection.. but just maybe.

Yes but is it B3 Greatest Hits? Because that offered extra outfit Trunks and Goku

  • British_Otaku

I wonder whether these will suffer from the original soundtrack being removed like the later printings of Raging Blast 2 in Japan. Kenji Yamamoto made some awesome music even for Kai (though the original Shunsuke Kikuchi work defined the DB+DBZ duo for me). I can see this having the whole track set removed though.

See the bottom of the article.

    http://www.kanzenshuu.com/features/kenji-yamamoto-retrospective/

On the compilation coming to Europe (home to me) pretty soon. That’s good to hear though I would rather own the original copy of Budokai 3 or limited edition copy of Budokai 3 for the PS2 assuming this doesn’t go that far.

Would have been something we couldn’t miss if they had all of the Budokai games and/or all of the Budokai Tenkaichi games… Perhaps even the 3 Budokai + Super DBZ and the 3 Tenkaichi + Legends (awful apparently but why not).

    • Just Tim

OST-wise, Namco Bandai can offer it as justified DLC, since they’ll have to get it from Nippon Columbia, who released the OST for the show and game.

      • British_Otaku

The games had music which was heavily influenced and practically ripped from many other artists hence games are removing the music and the Kai show has dropped the original Kai-Yamamoto soundtrack all together. It wouldn’t just be a long chat with whoever is in charge of DBK’s soundtrack or the video game soundtracks to get them in.

If it does turn up as DLC after the game is released which we have to pay for, I’ll just play them on the original systems or on a computer where I can appreciate the projects with actual enhancements.

  • Pietro Spina

Budokai 2 had the most interesting story mode… with Majin Bu absorbing Cell and Freezer °_°

Why it is not with the other two? °_°

  • Shogunreaper

What is the reason for not having 2 in there?

  • Tyler Sedrick

Now they need to have a Tenkaichi HD remastered  Collection :D

  • Göran Isacson

Wow. I remember when I test-played the very first Budokai game, and now there’s been so many I’ve long since lost track of them all. Can’t say I’m feeling very motivated to get this one though, since I never really felt these were anything but “slightly better than average”. As far as HD collections go, I don’t know how much appeal this one’s got.

  • Solomon_Kano

    AAAAAHHHHHHHH!

    THANK YOU NAMCO!!!!!!!!!

Ahem. Excuse me. You don’t understand though, I’ve wanted to play Tenkaichi 3 again for sooooo long. Considering we haven’t gotten a great DBZ game this gen, this is probably the most timely HD collection Namco could’ve done. Well, other than .Hack.

    Wait, where’s my Budokai 2!?

  • Aoshi00

In addition to Kenshin, I hope CC2 could one day do a DB Game.. playing the aerial battle btwn Asura and Yasha was just so epic and reminds me so much of the Dragonball fights, imagine a Goku-Vegeta fight w/ that much power, speed, and impact..  If the same story has been told so many times, let it have some jaw dropping over-the-top presentation.. Hope the DB Kinect game is fun..

    • British_Otaku

Sorry to say but for one, the DBZ for Kinect project is likely to be the worst DBZ game of the generation. And in addition, I’m not looking forward to something that takes away control from the player just so it can look pretty.

We’ve had Budokai 1, Budokai Tenkaichi 2 + 3 and Ultimate Butoden which had great presentation in the past but never slack on the fighting system, accuracy to the original story (Storm’s story mode can’t balance itself enough to not break canon usually) and activity of the player.

      • Aoshi00

Yeah I know, I thought Kinect would be at least something different.. probably like working out w/ DB.  And punching Freeza in the face, that’s probably gonna count for something :)

Actually I’ve been quite tired of one fighting game after another like Madden.  Personally I would prefer RPGs like from the Famicom to Super Famicom days, or even a 2D fighter like the old Butouden series, but I know they would never do it.  And the 2 Raging Blasts just look so boring to me even for next gen.  Asura’s Wrath might be QTE-heavy, but I did like the gameplay and think the style would really fit the adrenaline-filled DB perfectly. I considered Asura a unique experience like Nier, Catherine, or El Shaddai, something that’s different and left an impression on me.  And CC2 is now doing a 2.5D fighter w/ JoJo too which looks amazing.  Meanwhile even Persona 4 got an amazing 2D fighting game from Aksys, Kenshin has awful games on the PSP (I’ve been wishing a 2D fighter like that for years and what better time to make it happen than now w/ the revival of the movies, manga, OVAs, instead crappy games..)..  I wouldn’t mind a Blazeblue-like fighter for DB, but they would never do it.  If they stick w/ 3D, at least make it look much better and take it to the next level instead of being the same thing over and over..

I’m not that huge a fan of Kinect, but it’s good for getting one off the couch lol.. and some games are good w/ it. I just hope the DB Kinect game is responsive at least.

        • British_Otaku

Well, we haven’t had that many “fighters” after one another if you stop to consider other games made under the Dragon Ball license besides the PS3.

Dragon Ball Origins 1 + 2 along with Ultimate Butoden (well it is a fighter but it is diffferent to the Budokai/Tenkaichi duo which dominated the PS2 days – I’m aware that is nothing like the old Butoden but it is a great game) are gems on the DS. The latter of the three has some exciting cinematics and what if stories too. The QTEs aren’t punishing but amusing. The PSP’s selection are easily among the greatest DBZ fighters (Shin Budokai + 2: Another Road).

Also, DBZ for Kinect isn’t particularly responsive. It doesn’t seem to be on a Steel Battalion level of poor but if you felt that the RB games were weak and especially if you disliked Ultimate Tenkaichi. You wouldn’t enjoy the lack of interactivity, feedback or content. They could improve it maybe, but Spike haven’t gotten a single PS3/360 DBZ game right.

If you are awaiting an expressive 2D DBZ fighter with 2D sprites, you may be waiting a while.

  • Masengan

I hope they continue the RPG series they had on the original DS, the game was fun here’s hoping for a better sequel.

    • Guest

What are you talking about….Attack of the Saiyans?

      • Masengan

Yes that one, I thought it was a solid game.

There are few concerns I have with this HD Collection:

    1) Will the visuals of “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai” be the visuals that were present in the PS2 version of the game? Or will they use the GameCube-visuals? Or can we choose which we want?

    2) Will the voice acting in “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai” be Japanese, like in the Japanese and European versions of the game? Or will they be English, like the ones in the North American version of the original game? Or may we choose?

    3) Will there be online play included for any of these two games? Having no online play in Tekken Hybrid was kind of disappointing, and I hope that Namco Bandai has learned from that mistake…

    4) Why is Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 not included? That game offered the most original Story Mode, as well as some new transformations for Buu, and what-if characters like Gokule and Tiencha.

    5) Will this Dragon Ball Z: Budokai HD Collection contain any new content?

And, not directly related to this collection, but still worth mentioning…

    6) When will Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 HD be announced?

    • Guest

      1. PS2 most likely
      2.English most likely
      3.Offline most likely
4.Because it’s too redundant and didn’t offer much and no one liked that board game like story mode and because lol Microsoft cant fit eveything on one disc.
      5.Probably not
6.Probably only if these sales do well and if so, next fall. But if they had any sense, they should package that with Super DBZ. imo.

    • Keitaro004

I’m pretty sure the JP voices will be there if they remaster the European version. They hardly change anything in HD-remaster games and Europe exclusive anime games have (almost) always had JP voices if they aren’t released in the US.

  • back_up

PC gamers are pirates nothing for them :P

  • Keitaro004

    What happened to Budokai 2?

  • Syn

Well, I hope they also release Tenkaichi 3, that game was epic, largest character roster( I think it was 158+, yes some characters had similar move sets, but if you mastered the game, you would realise that they were very different, speed, timing, rush e.t.c), you could make combination attacks(send someone flying with a heavy hit, switch out and perform tracking rush attack), and so much more. Give me improved graphics and I would be all over it again. Just as a side note, after playing Tenkaichi 3, Budokai 3 kinda felt a little slow( I own both, so
I know what am talking about, but I think budokai 3 has the best finishers by FAR). However, I will definitely pick this up, hope they add some extra content *fingers crossed*

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/jodecideion?feature=mhum TheWon and Only

What even is the point of releasing this? You get one bad game, and one good game in HD with no online mode. How about remaking BT3 for Wii, and PS2 and release that instead. At least you would get more for your buck, and the improve online net coding would be a real improvement. I been waiting for them to top DBZ BT3 in overall DBZ experience. Instead they decided to just give us the overall better fighter game.
