The 3rd Birthday Developer Is Working On Okami HD

By Spencer . July 12, 2012 . 7:20pm

Okami HD, scheduled for release this fall in North America, is an HD port of the PlayStation 2 and Wii game for the PlayStation 3. For Okami HD, Capcom partnered up with The 3rd Birthday developer, Hexadrive, to port the game over.

While they were at it, Hexadrive and Capcom also adjusted some of the motion controls from the Wii version so that there’s a little less remote waggling and some of the cinematic scenes have been redrawn for the PlayStation 3 version as well.

And yes, if you were wondering, the original credits with the Clover studio staff from the PlayStation 2 version—which were unfortunately missing from the Wii version—are back in Okami HD. The game will be released this fall for $20 over PlayStation Network.

Im looking forward to play this HD version!

  • Safros9

I suppose it’s bad that I was excited when I saw the words “The 3rd Birthday” and “HD.” Not that I don’t want Okami, I’m just not really excited for it, but an HD version of The 3rd Birthday would be amazing… with some obvious tweaks and improvements of course.

    • ALfromHELLSING

Indeed, I know everyone hated this game but I really loved it. I mean it was fun. I spent more than 100+hrs on it. Tho, story was… was probably worst SquareSoft/SquareEnix ever did.

      • Safros9

Well, it’s always nice to meet someone else who enjoys a hated game. And indeed, not even I can deny the fact that the story is… well, so bad that I had to skip the cutscenes. But it was very fun, and even to this day the Reaper battle gets me pumped.

        • I would have skipped the cutscenes if it were not for the fact that Aya looked amazing in them. The game was tense in the way a PE game should be, not a fan of the reason of existence for the bosses but the combat was very exciting. Must replay, more outfits to get.

    • Syltique

It’s one of my favorite games as well.  I loved it.

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

I am enjoying it too…haven’t finished it yet and the controls can be sketchy sometimes, but I still like it.

A PS3 version would be highly welcomed.

  • Laharl

Hexadrive did a good job with designing T3B…
But whoever wrote and directed that game on the other hand…

    • Hraesvelgr

It was Motomu Toriyama, the man behind a good number of Square Enix’s worst games in recent years.

  • Relytgninroht

A Vita version would be awesome too- especially if it had cross-play. I can live with a PS3 version only though.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Careful here sir, we do ask there be no console requests here on siliconera.

      • Relytgninroht

Sorry, I totally Forgot about that. I’m buying it anyways regardless.

        • M’iau M’iaut

No worries. And a good choice in games!

  • Nemesis_Dawn

And don’t forget the woodblock filter is in there as an option too! It’s what made all the difference between the PS2 and Wii versions’ graphics.

  • Triplicity

    Clover credits!

  • Zeik56

The missing credits being in this game is the best news I’ve heard all day. Okami had an amazing ending credits scroll that was sorely missed.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Hexadrive? Cool.

I’m also very glad to hear that the credits are back, if only because of the immense amount of respect I had for Clover as a team. Probably my most loved developer of last gen… or maybe tied with Level-5. I hear that the credits roll actually was pretty nice too, so that’s just bonus for me.

    • Nitraion

I’m curious is clover studio is still live? i wanna know their game after God hand and okami

      • amagidyne

No and yes. Clover was shut down, but they moved on to form Platinum Games. So, MadWorld, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns, P-100 and Metal Gear Rising.

Bayonetta has the same director as Okami too.

        • Nitraion

          O_O soooo clover=platinum?!
          No wonder……Their game are awesome…

  • Nitraion

Can’t wait to collect Trophies for this game… it will be fun… :D

  • Göran Isacson

Welp, as long as they don’t have Ammy take clothing damage… I joke, I joke.

She doesn’t have clothes on the other hand. Now ISSUN on the other hand…

  • ArtIristic

Now, this has always bothered me. Why couldn’t the credits be in the Wii version. Clover was shut down and all, but Capcom had all of the publishing rights, didn’t they? So why?

    • Ricewarrior

Ready at Dawn Studios claims that they had to remove the credits because of disk space.

Capcom claims they took out the credits because it had Clover Studio’s Logo in it; which at the time they didn’t have the rights to the logo.

Strange enough, the Japanese Wii version had the credits in it.
If you ask me, I think both companies just got lazy.

  • Pope The Rev XXVIII

I’m sick of Capcom’s Dick moves. First Favoritism in SFXT and ondisc DLC now this being PSN exclusive.

    Capcom needs to die
