Raidou Kuzunoha Makes A Cameo In Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers For 3DS

By Spencer . August 7, 2012 . 5:42pm

imageFamitsu has a look at Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers this week and there is a familiar Devil Summoner in the screenshots. Raidou Kuzunoha is in the Nintendo 3DS version… actually make that two Raidous. Players will see the ’20s Raidou from Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army who is has Ragna the Bloodedge’s voice actor, Tomokazu Sugita.

The two Raidous are differentiated by having one of their names written in katakana and the other Raidou’s name is in kanji.

Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers comes out on August 30 in Japan.

Sugita has really become the go to guy for Japanese games XD, not that I’m complaining, he is awesome in his role as Gintoki, Ragna, Krom, Kyon.

But this game must come out of Japan….please Atlus XD and collaborate with Ghostlight for it in Europe as well =D

    •  I’d cry tears of joy if Atlus were to collaborate with Ghostlight to release this game in the old continent ;_; Definitely one of my most wanted games soon to be released in Japan!

  • Nice~! Bring him to P4Arena as well as a DLC character, dear Atlus~!

    • Visa Vang

Holy crap!! That’s the best idea EVAR!!!

  • Suddenly, I want this game even more.

  • Tales_of_Master

BEST ***** NEWS OF THE WEEK. Atlus are really hyping up their games this week. We can only hope for a localization plan for this and SMT IV to be announced.

  • DuskSharkEX

    Needs more Gotou.

    • Keyanf

Luckily he appears in the scans.

  • Vampiric

Please for the love of god just localize this………

  • Keyanf

The second Raidou is an alternate dimension version that also appeared in the two PS2 games. He was rendered as “Raido Kuzunoha” there.

The shadowed boss should also be familiar to Soulless Army players (all 5 of them).

  • ThatBlackGuy

Oh Raidou how I’ve missed you and your gravity-defining sideburns.

  • Joseph Santee

Ragna + Raidou = ATLUS, TAKE MY MONEY! YES YES YES! *happy dance*

  • Vadim Merzhey

Raidou from Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army who is has Ragna the Bloodedge’s voice actor, Tomokazu Sugita. – Raidou suddenly got even more cool…

  • Coeurl

Seeing Mr. Kuzunoha brought a tear to my eye. But wait… voice actor? They’re giving him a voice?

Well I guess you can’t avoid giving silent protags voices sometimes.

    • Ethan_Twain

Well, he’s not the protagonist in this game now is he?  So he’s allowed to have a voice now :)

Further evidence of this: Now that Persona 4 is a fighting game, “Hero” is just another character. So now he has a name and lines and a voice actor. The whole works.

Best example of this: Mother 3 did this constantly. You always play a silent protagonist, but who you’re playing as changes as the game progresses and you’ll encounter/speak with characters you played as previously. It’s way cool.

    • They originally gave Raidou a VA (Sugita) for the Drama CD, Soul Hackers is using the same VA. Also, I think it’s Raido who will do all the talking , while Raidou will be as quiet as ever.

Victor also voiced by same VA who voiced him in Raidou Drama CD.

      • cj_iwakura

Wonderful. I imagine he’ll sound different here though, Victor isn’t quite as insane in Soul Hackers, he’s more morose.

  • LightZero

So Raidou has Sugita’s voice. That makes him all the more badass. Now he just have to have Patrick Seitz voice in the English version. I’m liking that Atlus is adding extra stuff plus connecting Soul Hackers to the Raidou titles.

  • Jessi Cat

I’m glad I already have this pre-ordered, not so glad that I can’t play it unless I buy a JP 3DS console…How likely is it that if/when Atlus USA localizes this they’ll keep the JP dub? Same likelihood as me winning the lottery, right? :/
But still, Raidou is pretty awesome~

  • Ethan_Twain

Interesting.  SMT continuity is really weird.  The nature of the games are such that the world is constantly getting destroyed/remade, gods are getting killed/born, and generally cosmic scale powers are getting thrown about so it’s always POSSIBLE for there to be continuity but Atlus usually keeps things pretty separate.  When they DO combine things, they normally do it in pairs.  DDS 1 and 2.  Persona 3 and 4.  Persona 2 and other Persona 2.  The PS2 Devil Summoner games.

But lately?  Things are changing.  There has been a motion towards more continuity.  The remakes of Persona 2 now connect better with Persona 1.  Vincent from Catherine shows up in Persona 3 Portable.  Devil Summoner PS2 is getting connected to Devil Summoner Saturn (forgive me for not using the actual subtitles).

Things are still pretty disconnected within the SMT continuity and there are still new games being made that are pretty much stand alone.  There isn’t really connection between the Devil Survivor games is there? And Strange Journey is pretty much it’s own thing too.  However, the overall trend is towards more continuity, not less.  I will be terribly interested to see how/if SMT IV connects to other SMT games.

       Sometimes, I have a hard time discerning what are legit crossovers or simple cameos with the characters and games. ^u^;

There may be more of a mystery here than with the LoZ timelines before the release. And I don’t know if we’ll get a proper explanation for these ever, unlike LoZ.

    • Mr_SP

Pseudo-Continuity. That Vincent and Raidou are in remakes *only* is noteworthy. Even Persona 3’s characters in Persona 4 was just a cameo, with no link to it’s plot, up until until The Ultimate/Arena, and even that’s of questionable continuity, thanks to the new epilogue in P4:Golden, which conflicts with P4:Arena. Not to mention the wildly different plot purposes for various “should only be one” demons in various games.

      So, it’s still really weird.

      • Rogerrmark

P4(and P3P) has some links, because Elizabeth is away, looking for a way to save Minato, and Margaret is working for Igor, instead. I mean, the main characters are not the same ,but it’s the same universe, definitely. I dunno about that conflict of P4 Golden, and Arena, though.

And I can’t see EP and IS connected with P3 and P4 e.e.

Even with what happenned…I don’t know,I think it’s a completely different universe. The demons on EP are Personas on 3 and 4..and the Shadows don’t exist on EP,at least not the way they do on 3 and 4,where they’re monsters that represent an Arcana, etc.

        • herox7

actualy p2 is conected to p3 which is conected to p4 see in p3 misuru’s father mentions seperating from the nanjo group in yakushima which nanjo is a millionare kid from p2 and also p1

    • LightZero

Devil Survivor 1, Devil Survivor 2, and Strange Journey takes place in their own world. Although I’m sure they are connected by the Amala Network.

We do know that Raidou 1 and 2 are the prequels to the first Devil Summoner and Soul Hackers. SMT: if… is pretty much Persona 0 and it connects to the Persona universe. P3/P4 takes place in the EP world due to what happens in IS. SMT1 and SMT2 are pretty much set in the same world. Nocturne and DDS are set in their own universe. I have to admit it would be interest if SMT4 takes place in the SMT1 and SMT2 world. Most likely it will be in another world.

    • cj_iwakura

There’s always been continuity between Raidou and the original DevSum games. Raidou’s the ancestor of Kyouji and co. from the first game, and there’s a Kuzunoha in Soul Hackers too.

  • Aww nobody mentions Jouji Nakata as Gouto?

  • ………………
… Sorry, I just passed out there.

  • Raidoooou (✿❛◡❛)ノ:..。♦♫♦*

  • Tales_of_Master

Hell yeah. One of my favorite main characters of any SMT game, and with one of my favorite voice actors voicing him :D I hope the battle will be even harder than the battle with Htoshura from DDS. Raidou needs to one-up Hitoshura for beating him in Nocturne.

  • Daru Titor

    So who’s the other Raidou?

    • Tales_of_Master

It’s an alternate dimension version of Raidou named “Raido”. I won’t spoil. You should play the Devil Summoner games on the PS2.

  • Tales_of_Master

Just realized after seeing the scan that Sugita is voicing “Raido” not Raidou, with Raidou still being silent. It’s still awesome, especially with freakin Joji Nakata voicing Gouto. Still it’s gonna be an epic game.
