Yeah, Marvelous AQL Will Make Rune Factory 5

By Spencer . August 8, 2012 . 2:08am

runefactory4Rune Factory 4 has been out for just a few weeks, but producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto said the game’s reception was good enough to greenlight a sequel. Hashimoto didn’t say anything else to Famitsu about Rune Factory 5, which probably isn’t even actively in development.

Hashimoto said he’s speeding up preparations for a brand new title. We’re guessing this is Dragon Marked For Death, a Nintendo 3DS game with network features. Hashimoto exclusively talked to Siliconera about the title last year and said it’s coming along quite well.

Meanwhile, Half-Minute Hero and Senran Kagura producer Kenichiro Takaki said he has this idea in his head for a Wii U game and a Kagura anime series is in the works. Takaki also says he’s going to strive to make more games that people can’t comprehend.

Make more games that people can’t comprehend, huh? I wonder what kind would that be…

  • Astrid Huang

Please make Rune Factory 5 for PS3.. with high quality graphics..

    • riceisnice

I prefer Rune Factory on handhelds actually. Rune Factory is one of those games where you don’t need blisteringly high graphics to enjoy.

      • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

But what I don’t enjoy is that the handhelds has that top-down camera view… You’ll never know what might come out from the side of the screen during battle…

        • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

Well the monsters do get summoned… but I rarely get blindsided.

but maybe they can use different camera angles for battle and farming?

          • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

If they continue on the 3DS(which they likely will), they’re gonna continue using that annoying top-down camera angle…

            I don’t see it going to consoles unless it’s a spinoff…

        • Astrid Huang

I agree, and also that camera in Tides of Destiny is just terrible. I wish we can rotate the camera 360 degrees in the next series.

        • An Tran

The top-down view is really just a design choice though. Monster Hunter series is on 3DS now and they’re both in 3rd person view.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Well, we know the series will most likely stay on Nintendo consoles, however, if they’re going Wii U, considering the PS3 version of Tides of Destiny did better than the Wii version, maybe they’ll make 5 multiplatform and go Wii U/PS3.

    • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

You guys want everything on PS3… it is getting tiresome.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

In fairness, the PS3 did get Tides of Destiny and it did sell more than the Wii version, so it has already been established as an option.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

And both PS3/Wii versions sold like crap in comparison to the mainline series, so that doesn’t help in any way at all.

The reason the mainline Rune Factory titles are on Nintendo systems is because Nintendo consoles have a wider range of users than Sony systems. Women and children, in particular.

If they do decide to do another spin-off game, though, I’m sure it’ll be a multiplatform release like Oceans was. The Wii software market at the time was in the gutter, which was why the game went multiplat. If another spin-off comes out, I don’t know if the Wii U market will be big enough to sustain it, so it’s likely to be on PS3 as well.

The question, of course, is whether the spin-offs are worth doing. Oceans sacrificed too much and sold too little.

          • Nemesis_Dawn

And everything you said is pretty much a longer way of stating what I said in the comment below this. It’s going to stay on Nintendo systems, but after Tides of Destiny, if they go Wii U, there’s a chance they may go multiplatform and go Wii U/PS3.

          • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Right, but the point I’m trying to make is different from the point you’re trying to make. The point I’m making is that Tides of Destiny went multiplatform because the Wii software market was terrible at the time of its release.

The other point I’m making is that it’s questionable whether the console games sell enough to really warrant the higher cost of development combined with the added effort of going multiplatform to maximize sales.

Finally, you said “In fairness, the PS3 did get Tides of Destiny” as if it were some sort of precursor to Rune Factory 5 being on HD consoles and/or the PS3. My point is that will never happen.

          • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

Wait…. Oceans sold like crap??? Did it performed worse than Frontier??

If so, I don’t think we will ever see a spinoff again…

    • puchinri

I’d prefer WiiU. With or without prettier graphics. My PS3 could use another game though. . .

We still haven’t got any news about RF4 localization and now this… 0_0
And I wonder who’s going to be the last boss for RF5, since the last dragon already appeared in RF4 right? And is the dragon in RF4 is even a last boss? It looks like a good dragon to me lol

    • http://kuroneko772.blog.jeuxvideo.com/ KuroNeko77

Seeing the series’ lore and how RF4 ends, my guess is that everything is possible. We might see a new threat, like it was the case in Tides of Destiny.
The setting could also be in one of the others kingdoms we’ve heard of.

  • Dyne

why are you trying to make me re-live not getting Half-Minute Hero 2?

  • Peace Legacy

Good enough to greenlight a speedy translation?

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

Natsume needs to get to work now.

They’ll probably do another console version before jumping to 5, and hopefully it doesnt completly butcher some of the game elements like Oceans did.

    • James Smith

I’d welcome a good console or pc offering even more than a portable.

    • puchinri

Frontier was fun to me, so I’m hoping they’ll make the next console one like four meets Frontier.

  • Vampiric

the fact that 4 isnt localized that worries me

    • http://kuroneko772.blog.jeuxvideo.com/ KuroNeko77

It has only been like 3 weeks since its release in Japan.

Leave it a few months before we get a localization announcement.

      • puchinri

This~. Plus, getting HM out the door properly first.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

“He is going to strive to make more games that people can’t comprehend”

Do it!!!^_^ I am going to support you with all my might here.^_^ As Half Minute Heroes is probably one of the game that many can’t comprehend but fun like hell.^_^

  • puchinri

Awesome~! I’m really looking forward to four, and I hope five improves on everything that the series as a whole has done so far.

But, just like with HM, I’m hoping we’ll see another home console title next. Or soon, at least.

  • Dream

I hope RF5 is on the 3DS with character customization, console RF games are horrible IMO.
