Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate Screens Show Alucard And Simon

By Ishaan . August 15, 2012 . 10:43pm

At Gamescom, Konami sent out a new batch of screenshots for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, to give us an updated look at the Nintendo 3DS action-platformer.

While we’d only seen one of the game’s four playable characters in Trevor Belmont so far, the new screens also show off Simon and Alucard. That just leaves one last mystery character to be shown.

I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this. Should be a nice way to hold us over until we start getting some news on LOS2.

  • SpecDotSign

    No Metroidvania? No, thank you.

    • Quinton Cunningham

Because god forbid they try something new after 10+ years of the SAME THING.

      • Derek E Nay

I can understand wanting another Metroidvania, hell I want another. But at least they took their inspiration from castlevania 3.

      • Solomon_Kano

Not really new per se, but definitely something apart from what nearly every CV game has been for the last 3 generations.

A new game that finally looks to something in the series other than SOTN is certainly a welcome sight.

  • Magus KilIer

While is is nice to see they are trying something different…
WHY THE FUCK DID IT HAVE TO BE 3D!?

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

    Alucard my man is back!!!
I hope he’s also the one being teased on LoS 2′s trailer.

  • $30632660

    Alucard’s skin looks like charcoal.

  • SpecDotSign

Because God forbid I (and a bunch of Castlevania fans for that matter) want more Metroidvania style games. Especially if they’re gonna bring back Alucard in a more prominent role. Mercury Steam got lucky when Konami decided to put the Castlevania name on their Lords of Shadow title. Harmony of Despair is an awesome game, but didn’t sell buckets and I think because of that we’re stuck with Mercury Steam being the lead Castlevania team. (uuuuggggh, almost threw up in mah mouth with that one).

Okay, I can understand that you’re not in favor of the new direction, which is fine. But come on – overreaction much with the last note?

      • SpecDotSign

Maybe, but you gotta give credit where credit is due. Symphony of the Night is a revolutionary game and the subsequent titles in the genre did not disappoint. Not one. I don’t see a reason to not make them on portables. I truly am hoping that Iga and his team are working on a PSN/XBLA or even a Vita title.
Hope you understand where my sentiments are coming from.

        • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Sure. I mean, we all have our wishes regarding the things we like; I’m not an exception here. I don’t doubt that the “Metroidvania” titles were good; even the skull-numbingly hard Order of Ecclesia. I’m just trying to control the mood here a bit, because the new direction (and Mercury Steam, by extension) gets a lot of flak for something that’s not really a “fault” as much as a different choice.

If you guys get another Metroidvania down the line in the future, good for you, and have fun. If you don’t… not much we can do about it.

    • Solomon_Kano

Overreaction aside, I assure you Konami wasn’t banking on a PSN title to decide who’d be the lead. Castlevania LOS and Harmony were both being shown off at E3 in 2010, no company would pit their own series in a competition like that — if they did, it certainly wouldn’t be such an uneven one. If HD didn’t sell, what did you expect them to do? They released in the same year anyway, nothing would’ve changed even if HD had sold well. Lords of Shadow still sold enough to justify a sequel independent of anything happening with IGA.

Besides, MercurySteam’s CV is primarily on consoles. We finally got a Metroidvania on consoles again, now we’re getting one non-Metroidvania on portables with things likely going back to the way they were after LOS2 comes. Fair enough trade off, no? No sense in getting up in arms about it like we haven’t had a Metroidvania in forever and it already having been stated that Lords of Shadow is a temporary arrangement.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Considering this is following Castlevania 3 path there, i had high hope here. Don’t disappoint us here Mercury Steam.^_^

  • XiaomuArisu

    So….is Alucard still THE PIMP?
Lets find out in the future!

    Must………..PLAAY!!!!!

  • eilegz

those jaggies =/ sigh they couldnt use normal 2d sprites

  • Mago Iichi

I like how hard people look for tiny step like lines in games and get upset.

  • Göran Isacson

I wonder- is Alucard using the combat cross here, and does Simon just use subweapons as actual weapons? That would be kinda neat, if the family somehow loses the combat cross over the years and has to make do with other weapons.

  • Laharl

I think RE:REV and KH:3D spoiled me, Because this looks like ass for a AAA franchise.

Also, I thought the Combat Cross was destroyed?

    • Solomon_Kano

It was and, unless they changed its design, that shouldn’t be what Alucard’s holding.

      http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Combat_Cross

Actually, yea, that’s definitely not Gabriel’s Combat Cross. So I’d presume they had another made similar to it, since it definitely isn’t the original.

      • Laharl

Well, doesn’t Trevor have the Cross?

        http://static.3dsconnect.com/2012/07/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow-Mirror-of-Fate-13072012-3.jpg

And wasn’t it supposed to be a big special deal?

        • Solomon_Kano

It looks closer than Alucard’s, but it doesn’t have any of the additions that Gabriel’s Combat Cross had (hook tip, stake, spiked chain). So it looks like the Brotherhood probably commissioned a new Combat Cross once Gabriel’s was destroyed.

By big deal, do you mean the cross itself or Trevor having it?

          • Laharl

            I’d guess that’s system limitations.

I mean the cross itself, wasn’t it forged for many years by wizards or some crap?

I mean, the Vampire Killer is a big part of the CV mythos, destroying it in Reviere should have been a big deal, but nope, they can just make another one apparently.
I more think Kojima made a lot of tweaks to MS’s original vision of LoS, and now they are going back to what the original plan was, even if it means “Screw Logic”

            EDIT: Sorry, Resurrection, not Revere.

          • Solomon_Kano

The Vampire Killer in LoS got it’s name in the course of the game, since the player actually earns it that moniker. It would appear that it was just a particular Combat Cross that Gabriel had upgraded beyond that of the standard version — which is why I’m certain Trevor has a different one, since the 3DS is certainly capable of showing its few extra touches. A correction on my earlier comment though, if this is Gabriel’s it won’t have a stake.

The original was special by nature of having Gandolfi’s upgrades but, it being destroyed, they’d obviously need to make a new one. The actual important Vampire Killer will likely be Trevor’s whip since Gabriel’s was never used to kill Dracula, after all. That would make more sense than this one whip being significant because Gabriel killed some vampires and some villagers just calling it that (as is the case currently). The whip that kills Dracula would be much more fitting of the old Vampire Killer’s status, no?

          • Laharl

I’m more saying it seems kind of weak for the conclusion of the first LoS being the Dramatic Destruction of the Combat Cross, only to have a sudden new one in the next game.

And wouldn’t the symbolism of the whip being used to destroy dracula the same one dracula himself once used be much more meaningful?

But instead, it’s just another whip, because the Brotherhood can crank those babies out pretty quick from the looks of things.

          • Solomon_Kano

Ah, yea, it would’ve been better having Dracula die by his own whip. The destruction of his Cross still works though. The only point in that was to show Gabriel had abandoned his humanity.

Now as for how this whip is supposed to be special, I guess we’ll see.

  • Budgiecat

I dont like the way this Simon looks
