Ragnarok Odyssey Includes Multiplayer And Other Free Expansions On Cart

By Spencer . August 16, 2012 . 5:50pm

After we received details from Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong about the English/Chinese version of Ragnarok Odyssey, we got in touch with Xseed to find out about the US release. We were told extra content like the Sograt Desert and multiplayer expansions wouldn’t be on the PlayStation Vita cart. We’re happy to report today that the original e-mails were the result of miscommunication.

Localization specialist Tom Lipschultz just explained in an e-mail, "Everything that was free in Japan will be free in North America (both DLC and expansion-wise), and anything that required payment in Japan will require payment in North America. And all free expansions will be present on the game card from the start. That means the Epic Weapons Pack, Sograt Desert and Multiplayer packs."

While the translation work appears to be complete (because Ragnarok Odyssey is out in Hong Kong today), we still don’t have a release date for the game. Here’s another look at the giants you’ll be able to takedown with crazy air combos.

  • I just want to know what references to the Ragnarok universe it makes!  It’s sad that the Gunslinger class isn’t in-game apparently.

    • PoweredByHentai

You mean, all the in-game references?  The outfits for the original 1-1 and 2-1 job classes are in the game.  There are also special outfits like the Ninja outfit.

A good chunk of the hat accessories are also in the game.  Apple of Archer was mentioned in a previous Siliconera article (though not under its MMO name).

      • Are a good portion of the MMO’s locations in it?

        • PoweredByHentai

Well, what do you mean by locations?

          • The towns and fields.

          • PoweredByHentai

Ah, at the moment, I don’t know if there are other towns in the game.  There are different fields and some of those fields are determined by what quest “Chapter” you’re in.

That guy lives in Japan and has been doing quite a few “let’s play” videos, a number of which involves Ragnarok Odyssey.  My understanding is that you have your usual plains, forest, desert, ice, and volcanic fields.

  • Aurizen

man whats the hold up with the date, they given us a lot of pictures and other info, the hong kong ver is out, and yet the NA ver has no date, and its using the Xseed translations, I don’t get it what else is being done with the game, my friend has a NA ver early!

    • Not as bad as Max Anarchy being 100% english + english set as default, yet NA publishing being pushed to 2013…

      • Rentekabond

I’m still bitter about that, too.

    • Go2hell66

Maybe Its some kind of marketing strategy…

I just hope they have a good reason for all this

      • Aurizen

doubt it its just delayed just to be delayed. nothing special.

  • Zanetsu

I just hope someone will bring this to european territories as well. Otherwise I might just have to bite the bullet and import later, I’ve been clamoring for a new Vita-RPG.

  • Even more reasons for this to be considered one of the best Monster Hunter replacements for the west

    • Hey! Gods Eater is also a good MH clone!

      •  I actually like Gods Eater gameplay and style better, except for the recycled stages…

  • WyattEpp

    No date?  I can wait.
/me digs out RBO for another playthrough.

  • James Beatty

Does Ragnarok odyssey have anything to do with that horrible DS games?

    • Same series, but different developer and COMPLETELY different gameplay style.

And it wasn’t that bad, was it? :(

    • PoweredByHentai

Hey, I quite liked the Ragnarok game on the DS since that was as close as I could get to the MMO without installing the MMO on my PC.

  • ZEROthefirst

This, Killzone: Mercenary, and soon to be PSO2 make me glad to have bought a Vita.

  • Go2hell66

sigh… and this was posted right after the GKH article, just another game i should be playing right now but can’t. not a good look xseed… :(

just want to get my hands on this A.S.A.P, i’m already contemplating getting the HK version, don’t think i can wait much longer T_T

  • Onizuka Gio Hikari

Very nice news I plan on getting a vita soon

  • Did… Did I just hear.read the word free!? *tears of joy*

  • Shiki

Argh! , enough with the teasing!! , i really can’t bear it anymore , just hurry and release this game ASAP!!!!!

  • Solomon_Kano

Nice, nice. I’ll definitely be grabbing this once it releases stateside.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Definitely a rumor (if email tracking is anything to go by), but Amazon updated their release date posting for the game to mid-to-late October. I hope that’s the latest date it will be held to. If it gets into November, then that’d be cutting into my AC III:L time. =(

  • Kitestwinblades

    Hm… I wonder if that’s Baphomet’s Crescent Scythe on the 14th picture.
Its sure is great to see Kafras and Porings in the 3rd dimension :3

  • The things that stands out the most about this game’s visuals most? Ground textures. They’re so muddy and ugly, every single time I ever see this game I cringe at those ground textures. I’m no graphics whore and I honestly think the game looks great beyond those ground textures, but it’s impossible to ignore ‘dem ground textures.

  • You know Amazon and Gamestop’s Release dates are both pushed till October, WTH !? game is out in HONKONG U FAXXOT I am getting Mine from Honkong, US version better work with honking Via wifi Unlike Asian version to Japanese.

Xseed, I am fckin disappointed at you guys Canceled my reservation faXXots

  • Testsubject909

That’s wonderful to hear… But I’d like to share my personal query here.

I have the game pre-ordered. When I pre-ordered it though, there was an optional Limited Edition version that costs 10$ more… And I’m having trouble finding information about this LE version, despite the fact that I can pre-order it and that the LE version is listed in EBgames’ systems.
