E.X. Troopers’ Survival Mode Has Online Play For PS3, Local Wi-Fi For Nintendo 3DS

By Spencer . August 23, 2012 . 4:32pm

Capcom announced a multiplayer mode for E.X. Troopers, an anime style Lost Planet spinoff. Survival mode splits players up into three person teams, either red or blue. The goal is to crush the other team by shooting the other team down. Stages in survival mode will have different gimmicks players can make use of.

E.X. Troopers is coming out for PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS. The PS3 version has online play and voice chat options for survival mode. The 3DS release has Monster Hunter meet up style local co-op.

Speaking of "gimmicks," E.X. Troopers has Oronamin C, a Japanese vitamin drink, as an in-game item. Capcom loves collaborations, don’t they?

E.X. Troopers comes out on November 22.

I don’t really understand why they aren’t adding online for the 3DS version. They already had 2 games with pretty decent online on the system. I’m still pretty excited for the game though and since my 3DS has become my system of preference i will still buy it on that platform.

    • ronin4life

Online just isn’t a big deal in Japan it seems, specifically on handhelds.

      • kylehyde

Well if this game gets localised (and I hope this would happen) probably is going to be big deal on the west for many people (not in my case at all, since I mostly play on single player, but sometimes I want to play with someone else).

      • James Beatty

I guess so. I’m not an online type of guy either, but i don’t see why they would take away from one version if the system is capable of it and another version has it.

      •  Yeah it’s kind of a cultural difference.  Adhoc is huge, online play isn’t that necessary.  In the US it’s completely reversed…

  • As long as story mode is good I don’t mind lack of online.  I actually just want 3DS version to be good period before I think about lack of online.

  • ZEROthefirst

Well it looks like I’ll either get both versions or just the PS3. I enjoy being able to play a game past story, and I know 2, maybe 3 people with a 3ds and only 1 is thinking of possibly getting the game.

  • $30632660

I no longer see a point to buying this game for the 3DS.If Online was never planned for the 3DS version, then why not just take that multiplayer crap out and expand the single player?

Even the SSIV port for the 3DS has online, there’s no excuse Sapcom.

    • Solomon_Kano

Because online isn’t as necessary to the Japanese as it is to the rest of the world. Most of the Monster Hunter franchise did without it as well.

No need for an excuse, it was a choice on their part.

    • Luna Kazemaru

You know the ‘Sapcom’ and ‘crapcom’ comments are really getting old and annoying.

      • $30632660

No need to get butthurt over it.I’ll just not mention their name at all.

        • Luna Kazemaru

You are calling me butt hurt when you are using a name for capcom thats mostly used to insult them…OH that’s grand.

          • $30632660

I’m calling you butthurt because most of your posts are about being butthurt over other posters’ comments.

            And I call them that
because they have yet to do anything redeemable. The bone headed decisions they make like this one, time after time, does nothing to help either.

          • Luna Kazemaru

So because I call people out on sh** posting or not posting with intelligence and not troll I am butt hurt…lawl how cute.

          • $30632660

@Luna Kazemaru No, it’s because you mostly call people out on having different opinions than you that you are butthurt.

Especially when some posters give their reasons in their posts. You call them petty or say they are nitpicking.

If that isn’t being butthurt then that is some strong denial coming from you.

          • M’iau M’iaut

@ValkyriaXEdge:disqus  I am asking both of you to stop for the night.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Sir we have reminded you numerous times that such comments and behavior have no place in our community. Please be aware this will be your final warning.

  • pgover

It doesn’t really matter to me that the 3DS version lacks online, so long as the single player is solid. I don’t use online modes that often so it’s fine if the 3DS version lacks it.

  • Solomon_Kano

The fact that it would probably never be localized for 3DS aside, this just cemented the PS3 version as the one to buy for me. Definitely down to import this.

    • margherita mastropaolo

i hope they will release the ps3 version in europe,i’m sick of importing
      you know anything?

      • Solomon_Kano

Heck, I’m not even in Europe and I’d be happy if you got it. Then I could at least import it in English. It’d be nice, but it’s unlikely to happen.

        • Bentan

english subs and menu text would be ok if they’re too poor for dubs

          • Solomon_Kano

It wouldn’t even be that they’re too poor for it, just that they wouldn’t want to bring it at all. That seems to have been the point of LP3 being significantly more western and this being as Japanese as possible — one for them, one for us. Hopefully there’s at least some English menus in the Chinese version.

    • Anesia Hunter

I think you missed this… http://www.siliconera.com/2011/12/01/who-or-what-are-capcoms-e-x-troopers/ So there’s a chance we will get it?

      • Solomon_Kano

I saw it. Trademarks just aren’t enough these days, since anything short of an official announcement goes up in smoke (see: Type-0). We do indeed have a chance of seeing this, but it’s not a high one.

  • Cephrien

    Only 3 person teams?

    Aww man–

Oh well. Game still looks super neat.

  • kylehyde

Online or offline I really want that this game gets localized on both versions.

  • $17786919

There’s no way this is coming to the U.S., is there?

    • margherita mastropaolo

i hope this game will come to the west
i need to play something new

    • Zonic505

All we know is that Capcom trademarked the name of the game last year in Dec., so who knows. Sure hope it does.

  • PoSiTiV3tEnSiOn

    Boo ~

Not exactly relevant but I hope MH4 ends up has online support, at least.
I don’t really know all that many people to be gathering locally with.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

still getting the 3DS version anyway if it get

  • Shuga Suenaga

Local Wi-Fi? its local wireless lol, but still why not putting online if the 3DS is capable of that r.r

    • Usually in situations like that it comes down to service requirements/agreements through Nintendo.  Most of the hardware guys force network play to go through their proprietary networks and Capcom probably couldn’t or didn’t want to comply with their requirements.

Not familiar with the DS network stack or Nintendo’s service gateway but I would bet it’s a capability issue — Nintendo’s network gateway for the DS probably can’t handle the netcode for the game, or Nintendo was worried about the load that the game would cause on their gateways.

Adhoc means the netcode is there and works so it’s either licensing or infrastructure based, and I would lean more towards infrastructure since Capcom should have enough clout to handle licensing.

  • raymk

Meh I only cared about the ps3 version anyway as at least I can buy that game without worrying about the region lock.

  • keithmaxx

Collaborations = more monies = more indiscreet in-game advertising = in this case, meh.

  • HassanJamal

    Its odd….seeing a ps3 exclusive have a 3DS counterpart O_O

    • sd28

i belive its the other way around

      • HassanJamal

vice versa blah blah, still though, odd to see such a thing.
