Dead or Alive 5’s New Character, Mila, Is An MMA Fighter

By Ishaan . September 10, 2012 . 12:20pm

The only new Dead or Alive 5 character that Tecmo Koei have officially revealed so far is Rig, a taekwondo master. However, there’s another brand new character in the game, too: Mila, who’s a mixed martial-arts fighter.  She was leaked via a cutscene and battle footage that was accidentally shared by another website, but has now been taken down by the source. You can watch it below:

Dead or Alive 5 will be released on September 25th in North America and September 28th in Europe.

Good to see another girl as a brand new character I would be dissapointed otherwise.

  • Godmars

    And  lousily waitress…

  • rinalicat

Huh…I can’t really put my finger on it but I like this character; she kinda feels…like, real! Like someone you can meet in the street real! I think I found my new main player character!!

    • raymk

Tina doesn’t real real?  Heck tina is as real as they come as far as characters go.  Guess that’s why they showed the both of them together.

      • rinalicat

Well, I know people like Mila but I don’t know people like Tina. That’s what I’m saying. Also, Mila is basically a fan girl and as a fan girl I can relate to her.

  • Voltech44

Wow.  I wasn’t expecting Tina’s accent to be so strong…but oh well.  I kind of like it, actually.

I don’t know much about MMA fighting, but I can’t help but feel like Mila is a bit reminiscent of Virtua Fighter’s Brad Burns.  It almost looks like they share a few attacks.  Not that I’m complaining; Brad was one of my favorite characters in that game, and if Mila’s anything like him I’ll be set.

“She kicks high”?  Heh, more like “She punches hard.”

  • Andrew Austin

She looks like Reiko from Rumble Roses

  • Blesmi

Hawt. Although I hope she has a costume where she doesn’t have the band-aid. Not into the whole Nelly look.

  • sunK1D

Tina’s accent is so thick even for a texan. Mila looks great, she actually looks a lot like Vella from Mabinogi Heroes/Vindictus.

  • Anime10121

I like her look, a LOT more than Rig’s Cole Mcgrath look.  Her gameplay on the other hand looks to need work, I hope its just because the person who played her sucks, because MMA has such potential for a fighting style!  However I am pretty excited about Mila and cant wait to try her out myself:)

  • Jake Caro

    Man, the cutscenes, the music.

This is just looking excellent. Got the special edition pre-ordered!
    Come onn september 25th!

  • William Carpenter

I really like her look. She reminds me of a younger version of Vanessa from King of Fighters, who I thought was a very glaring omission from KoFXIII.

Still, as much as I love DoA5’s shift toward more realistic character designs and aesthetics, the animations leave a lot to be desired. The mouth movements and other facial features looked so stiff, it was kind of gross.

  • Blackhowling

I’m glad they put a mix martial artist in the mix finally. And she’s hot, and wow I’m from Texas and Tina’s accent was just wow… I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone from here or the south talk like that lol, but was really hoping Rig was gonna be the MMA character. Still it’s kool and I can’t wait to grab this game.

    • raymk

Why would you want rig to be to MMA fighter?  What if rig had turned out to be the female before you knew about him?

      • Blackhowling

I dunno he just kinda looked the part to me. I really dunno what I would have done then. either way though I like them both. Gonna be fun using either one really.

  • Crimson_Cloud

    Nice. She looks cute.

  • MMA? Not bad. The loading screen? Bad. Cutscenes? Good. Leon? Don’t know much of him but I won’t object to his return.

  • Reiko_Chan

Im happy with Mila’s look and fighting style. I had a feeling she would have red hair.

  • Hoshi星

Brad never going to get another drink.

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. Mila looks pretty cool actually, even if I can’t say I know much about MMA or what makes it different from other martial arts. Those loading times were meh however… and poor Brad never even got his drink. Quite fantastic coincidence that all three of them end up in the same place though.

  • Angeru_Lito

I really Like Tina’s english voice she sounds very south-ish with is exactly like she should sound, and Mila looks great I love the “Tshh” sounds she makes that’s  very MMA fighter like.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

You know that is Kate Higgins right?

      • Angeru_Lito

        Didn’t know until now.

  • Visa Vang

Is it me or does the graphics on this cut scene looks outdated?

    • Angeru_Lito

Yeah there’s something about that random guy in the dinner that just looks off but the characters and the enviroments look nice and that’s all that matters anyways.

  • TheDarkEmpress

If that’s the real BGM for the game I actually like it….DOA5 is shaping up to be everything I want it to be, definitely a worthy successor to 4 from what I’ve seen. Been waiting forever for this installment, it finally got announced, and it’s now just a few weeks away from delivery, I’m pretty excited.

  • at least the game getting better each time i saw it , i thought it is a same old same old kind of game u know boys , bouncing assets , but from every video in siliconera , they actually dun make it too obvious , so i kind of feel that this game somehow better than the rest of the DOA series

  • Nemesis_Dawn

I don’t like her voice. She looks like she’d have more of a tough, New Yorker-type accent.

But besides that…are there cutscenes like that between every battle? If so, that’s kinda neat, actually.

    • Repede91

If I remember right, the alpha version had an option for “story mode” apart from the standard arcade mode. That and all the cutscenes in the trailers imply to me this game will have have more substantial story mode ala Dimensions and MK9.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

That certainly makes me lean towards picking this up, I’ll tell you that.

  • Nitraion

MMA…. this is getting intresting…. needs shaolin style tooo…..XD
I always like variety style of fighting on VF or DOA although the ninja one kinda hard to imagine now(vanish in thin air lol)

  • Suicunesol

I like how the back of Mila’s shirt says “sting like a bee”. :P

  • Christopher Nunes

I’m liking Mila! She’s a really interesting character, love her personality and voice! Her fighting style is pretty cool and I love the moment, though I’m not sure why everyone is complaining about the animation so far with it unless I’m missing something that’s important for 3D fighting game.

Now if there was a Character Creation mode to make your own characters akin to Soul Calibur’s CaS system.

I really want to add a male character with a mixed martial arts style of Tae Kwon Do and Shaolin, that would be cool! Has two different eye colors, wears a black long-sleeved jacket, a dark grey t-shirt underneath, black fingerless gloves, light grey jeans with a metal chain on the left side, black sneakers and the character has a bright and humorous personality.

A goofy, optimistic character, with slight tsundere tendencies, wearing dark clothes on. I would like to see that possible with a CaC system.

  • Tee Niitris

Something looks off about Mila… maybe it’s because she doesn’t look like the rest of the girls (normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal or a bad thing, but we are talking about DoA, the series that boasts the most beautiful girls in video games). She looks plain like Hitomi, but less stylish.

I’m not a big fan of “MMA-styled” fighting, but that’s just personal preference. Nice to see DoA have some semblance to boxing now (the gameplay wouldn’t favor a straight-up boxing style anyway).

And man, Team Ninja couldn’t use more typical character archetypes for the new fighters (edgy, rugged, tough guy; peppy, excited, happy girl).

  • Rolling Guy

    VA’s a bit….

  • Hinataharem

    I like.

  • Mila for the win =)

  • Kitestwinblades

It almost doesn’t feel like DoA at all XD That music transition and a ring with nothing more than the ropes(and maybe posts) to interact with… felt like a relaxing practice mode. -Which seems to be what they were aiming for here(story wise), but with mission bonuses. The fighting system is still all there though X3

Mila Is also MORE than welcomed! I cant say no to that stance.
Its was kinda cool seeing the french text too!

    •  I saw the video yesterday, albeit in a spanish version though. Yeh Mila looks cool, reminds me of a few friends and a cousin who do MMA. Also her fight style reminds me abit of Muay Thai (unless that’s precisely what it is) so she’s more than welcomed into the game =) .

  • wahyudil

make me want to buy xbox360

  • KyoyaHibari

As much as I hate MMA, Mila looks pretty cool. But that dub…eurgh

  • Diego Steffan

I think Mila has a great resemblance (physically) to the MMA fighter Hirako Yamanaka.
