Hold It! Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney Is Coming In November

By Spencer . September 11, 2012 . 3:33pm

luke Professor Layton’s "hint" in last week’s issue of Famitsu was about Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney’s release date. The magazine confirmed Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney will be released on November 29 in Japan. Level-5 is developing and publishing the title in Japan.

I think Siliconera is one of the few (maybe the only!) English site that played the game so far. Read our impressions of Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney here.

Now, all we need is news about the localization. Come Capcom, you’ve been on a good streak lately, don’t ruin it.

    • Anime10121

Capcom said when the game was announced that localization is entirely dependent among Level 5, considering they’re the publisher, so its likely it’ll get localized, even if it takes a while.

And since when has Capcom been on a good streak?  About the only thing I can think of that they’ve received positive feedback from the general populace in the west is RE6 and AA5 being localized, although I myself am anticipating the new DmC more.  As Ive said in previous articles, I’m a long time Capcom fan, since the early 90’s, but these recent times have been ROUGH, and they havent been making the smartest decisions as far as I’m concerned.

    • How exactly have they been on a good streak?

    • Farid Belkacemi

Maybe Nintendo will handle it in Europe, like what they did with Inazuma Eleven :)

  • Natat

Ah, so that was the release date after all. And there should be nothing holding back a localization, I mean they are bringing AA5, both AA and Layton are popular here, and it’s made for the 3DS…

  • Awesome!!! I’m hoping for some localization news.
I estimate it to be quite soon…or so I’d like to believe.

  • Since it is a Level 5 publish, I wonder if Nintendo will localize or Capcom.

  • Vyrus

I swear, if this game doesn’t get localized, you’ll see lots of prosecuting gamers accusing Capcom of breaking their hopes and dreams.

    • And it won’t mean a thing because the subsidies from Capcom’s other properties will be enough to buy them all off.

      •  Hold it! You first have to get three properties and three Ace Attorney titles to the other side of their portfolio while obeying the following conditions.

        – No more than two prosecutors can ride the raft at the same time.
        – There must be at least one Mega Man on the raft in order for it to move.
        – If more Wrights than Laytons stay on either side of the river, the hearing will be postponed to the final day.

No, seriously, Capcom and Level-5 better get their act together. It has been way too long since Maya’s last appearance already!

        • I don’t think you understood my comment. I meant that even though Capcom is neglectful with a handful of its properties, it always earns forgiveness with its series with more mainstream appeal. So Capcom stumbles with Mega Man or Ace Attorney or whatever, but then they announce Resident Evil or DmC or Street Fighter news or something and suddenly everyone forgives them. As long as this keeps happening, you’ll never get the recompense you think you deserve from them.

  • I completely forgot about this. What does that say about the hype for this game?

  • MrJechgo

Wake me up when an English version is announced…

Level-5 better be listening to their fans… because they’re not the kind to skip localization for their games.

    • Considering they haven’t localized a single game by themselves yet, I don’t know if I would say that. :P

(But the chances of this coming over are fairly good.)

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, considering this game had two famous franchise there, I believe that this game will surely come here.

  • Learii

they haven’t released this game in japan yet? i though they already did

  • Qtn: How much do I need to know abt the two franchises be4 getting this game?

    • It would help if you had played atleast the first games in both series, just to get a hold of the gameplay styles in both. Phoenix Wright is a visual novel/point and click adventure and Professor Layton is a puzzle/adventure hybrid/point and click adventure. Professor Layton has voice acting and cutscenes, while Phoenix Wright doesn’t (but you have to remember that Phoenix Wright for the DS was actually a port of a GBA game). Both games have heavy emphasis on story, but have only one ending. If you can, try watching a Let’s Play of both first games in either series. They’re both fantastic franchises. In this game, though, Professor Layton VS. Ace Attorney, I’m sure it’ll be just fine for newcomers to jump in. They’ll most likely tell the basic story of each character for newbies. I can just imagine Phoenix saying something like, “My name is Phoenix Wright, and I’m a defense attorney of some renown. I have a partner named Maya Fey, a spirit medium… in training.” something like that. And I’m sure Luke will offhandedly talk about how famous Professor Layton is in London, a world-renowned archaeologist, and how he’s solved a bunch of cases~

Whoa! Lost post! I hope I helped, though.((totally offtopic note, TWEWY is my favorite game of all time, so your avatar is awesome- that is all))

  • Freud_Hater

Uh, yeah, me not caring much for Japanese release. I care for a hypothetical Western release! Come on, VOICED Pheonix and Maya!! That’s gotta be like the best game ever if they do it semi-right!!

  • Göran Isacson

Welp, waiting on Level 5 now. You guys have been good with localizing the Layton games, so I put my lawyerfessor-tastic hopes to you!
