Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge Trailer Shows Playable Ayane [Update]

By Ishaan . September 13, 2012 . 8:50am

Ninja Gaiden 3 is getting an updated version on Wii U, titled Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, which will be published by Nintendo. In addition to previously revealed tweaks, it has one other major feature—Ayane as a playable character:

Ayane will have her own playable chapters in the game, according to Nintendo, and will also feature two-player online co-op, with Ryu and Ayane together. A separate Chapter Challenge Mode will allow you to play any chapter of the game using either Ryu or Ayane.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will add dismemberment back into the game, and will also feature improved enemy AI.

So nintendo gets the bloody and polished version of Ninja Gaiden 3, while the PS3 and XBOX 360, the consoles where this generation of NG games was born,  gets the cleaner and lamer with no variety of enemies at all and no decapitations version…… I need a drink

    • Farid Belkacemi

This generation of NG was born on Xbox, not PS3/360 ;)

      • shion16

yeah youre right, i forgot it

But i want violence too Dx

    • malek86

It’s not a matter if the game was on another console first. But I find it annoying that the original buyers would be forced to buy the game again, when even the developers admitted it came out bad.

It’s not like, say, Vesperia 360, where the PS3 got extras but the 360 version was pretty good too. In that case, people already got a good game, the PS3 version is there for those who couldn’t play it or want an even better experience. People complained because they always complain, but I’m pretty sure the 360 version was still worth the money.

In this case though, the original NG3 buyers simply wasted money on a bad product. I’m not asking for the extra content, but at least patching in the gameplay improvements in the 360/PS3 versions would gain them back some trust.

Considering Wii already get their shares like Graces where there are glitches and some characters cut, it seems Nintendo this time is pulling some revenge lol.^_^

    • GaiunxWolfenX

actually NG 1 was for the original xbox from one generation before 360 and ps3 XD

    • eilegz

its like the world its going in circles and we are in another cycle, if we think about it since the wii was a casual experience overloard and it was successful other like sony and microsoft its embracing it more, on other hand nintendo realize what its lacking and now they want to take it back, looking on how casual market its pretty migrated to smartphones and tablets.

  • Budgiecat

    No happy ending?

  • Brimfyre

Why would I want to buy a game that even the developers said was a mistake?

    • Kaihedgie

People didn’t like Sakimoto’s defense towards Other M.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, for all that already bought the first version there, i feel your pain guys.T_T

……. I will enjoy this game as much as possible for your guys part too here lol.^_^

And it does seems this game looks a lot close to Sigma 2 than the previous disaster one lol.^_^

  • XypherCode

I didn’t finish NG3 on my PS3 but hopefully this’ll be a big step in the right direction. Razor’s Edge looks promising so far especially Ayane is in there now. Very looking forward to it. :)

Ninja Gaiden 3 – The good edition.

  • Luna Kazemaru

Uhh yeah not spending more money on this game

  • PreyMantis

Never expected the day when Nintendo publishes a bloody and violent game like this.

    • Herok♞

       One word for you: Madworld

      • British_Otaku

He did say “publish”, of course there are bloody and violent games on Nintendo systems.

Not that there is that much difference between Nintendo allowing the game to be licensed and released for their system (every game on a Nintendo system) and them perhaps funding the development, marketing the game and distributing it (all of their inhouse works and probably this to an extent).

In the end, the only people who are surprised aren’t paying attention and the only people who care negatively are parent watch dog groups who would rather not have any violent game on the Wii at all.

        MadWorld is published by Sega.

Cannot wait! I still need to get Sigma 2…I’ll just get both.

    • Rick R

Better idea, just get Sigma 2. NG3 was beyond fixing honestly. I’m sure this version is better but unless they remade the game ground up including enemies, enemy placement, bosses and level design the best you can hope for is mediocre.

      • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

Yea but both look good to me. I’ll for my own opinion of this game when I actually play it.

  • GaiunxWolfenX

soooooooo no DOA5 for wii u yet??? T.T

    • eilegz

it will come eventually with a new improved name

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate in a few months.

      • Anime10121

Almost makes me wanna hold out on buying it for PS3, the only reason I hate new console releases, updated versions coming out later.  If I have a WiiU by then (which after today, I can pretty much guarantee I will) and an updated port of DOA5 comes out, there will be man tears swelling in my eyes :(

  • http://twitter.com/Romangelo Román Monterossa

So they released the bad edition for PS3 users then making the good edition for other console?

    • XiaomuArisu

       Ah….the Irony

  • XiaomuArisu

Forget Ryu give me more ass…I mean Ayane!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    >:} dat ass is playable? awesome

  • zferolie

Looks like they have fixed a few of the issues, like Ryu having more then one weapon and stuff. Ayane is a nice addition as well.

Looks like I have another game to get for a system I wasn’t going to get.

  • GibbRS

Let me know when they’ve added a playable T-Rex with LED eyes.

    Wait, don’t do that.

Even Ayane can’t save the trainwreck that is Ninja Gaiden 3, unless they re-wrote the entire story and changed the battle system.

    • British_Otaku

As someone who enjoys the other Ninja Gaiden of this era, I’m curious about what other things this game has to do to dodge being a trainwreck?

Not necessarily to get on the level of Ninja Gaiden 1.

The gameplay is under repair and has more weapons.
      Enemies are more aggressive.
There are more playable characters (it’s an extra more than a requirement but yeah).

I don’t know whether they are going to make the story reasonable though, still seems to be the London set masterpiece where the killing you have done has consequence, which rewards you with superpowers to kill more people with no reward for leaving someone alone or opportunity.

  • Magus KilIer

This looks awesome,i now have a reason to get the Wii U
But seriously,if Momiji and Rachel aren’t playable, there will be blood, and lots of it

  • MrSirFeatherFang

If any of you played NG3 on Master Ninja or Ultimate Ninja mode, you would know that the A.I. was cheap as hell. I’m hoping the improved A.I. is something better than what I went through in NG3 lol

  • blembot4000

    momoji and I am sold

  • Solomon_Kano

Couldn’t even get through the trailer.

I didn’t dislike NG3 because it lacked dismemberment, so adding that and Ayane isn’t enough for me to give this another chance. The AI didn’t bother me either, so that’s irrelevant as well. What bothered me was the rather absurd amount of finishing animations, and that’s something that’s apparently persisted in this version of the game. It ruined the entire gameplay flow that NG Sigma and 2 sold me into the series on.

At the least, the developers have acknowledged that mistakes were made, so that gives me hope that NG4 will be a return to the style of NG2. NG3 should have been the evolution of that, but perhaps 4 will get it right.

  • Anime10121

And that little snippet with Ayane looks FAR more entertaining than the entirety of Ryus campaign.  Dont know if they can fix the mess that Ryu’s campaign turned out to be, but at least Ayane looks fun to play as!

  • ギャビン

    Day 1.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Wow this looks insane! And yes, Ayane makes me want this even more! =^_^=

  • raymk

Well since I didn’t buy the original game I’ll buy this for wii U since i’m getting one.  They seems to have fixed a lot of the stuff so i’m good to go, also they added ayane and co-op some that makes it even better.

  • wahyudil

never played the 1 and 2 … can they make it into trilogy?

  • Göran Isacson

Looks… halfway decent, I’d say. I’ve seen worse and better, but it at least looks like it could be as entertaining as the older games with multiple weapons and characters- that the first Ninja Gaiden 3 just had one sword just felt bland. Story was dumb as mud of course, but it’s not like I didn’t expect that going in, so maybe this will be more entertaining in the long run?

  • http://twitter.com/Neilikki Neilikki

Surprise, surprise, my favourite character being playable only in some enhanced port for another console half a year after release.
How very original of you, Tecmo.
