Atlus released a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei IV a few days ago, and we took it upon ourselves to subtitle it in English so our readers could understand what was being said. You can watch the English-subtitled version below:

Shin Megami Tensei IV takes place in Tokyo once more after Strange Journey’s departure from the usual setting. You can find more details here.

Atlus will release Shin Megami Tensei IV in Japan sometime in 2013.

  • The trailer has kinda offset my disappointment at lack of Persona 5 news

    • Shane Guidaboni

At this point, I’m all Persona’d out. I could use a year or two without anything Persona.

      • Morricane

I could use a year or two to get to finally playing Persona 1+2 properly! (only finished Persona 1 waaaay back on the PS1, that atrocious localization…and only got the bad ending thanks to no gamefaqs back then haha)

  • OMG I was already sold but this trailer officially blows my mind.

    And that music… I LOVE it !

  • Tommy Lee

    Thank you!

  • MrTyrant

Seems like the samurai team will end up fighting each other in the end.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well most of SMT will always end up that way there. Even Strange Journey end up you fighting againts your pals depending on which route you take.

  • …Must…have.O_o
    I didn’t realize samurais had afros though.XD

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

You must never heard of Afro Samurai there.^_^

      • Morricane

She asked for someone saying this! haha

  • Detrimont

i have a feeling that Lilith and Samael will have something to do with the story after hearing the part about Adam

  •   Thank you for subs .

  • Herok♞

Thanks now this makes sense and seems more interesting

  • PreyMantis

I always thought my Japanese study guides (anime) would help me understand the way of the Japanese, but I was so naive and I felt distraught when I could barely understand what they were all saying. I was in the verged of self destruction. I humbly thank you Siliconera for providing this adequate captions. Now, I can live the rest of my oblivious self.

  • kylehyde

Now that I understand a little more about the game I’m more hyped. Thanks guys.

  • hmm was the protagonist talking at the end? so no silent protagonist?

    • Detrimont

i think it was the spiked hair guy, so it probably i still a silent protagonist(im 99.5% sure)

  • imaguni

Posts like these make me glad I started lurking around here. Thanks a lot!

  • the protagonist looks like narukami yu with wigs

  • I swear, looking at that girl from behind looks like Korra.

    • TheFoolArcana

      He’s a guy…

      • D’oh! *slaps forehead* Well that confirms what Japanese like to see–androgynous guys.

        • TheFoolArcana

I thought they made it pretty obvious. Just cause someone wears a ponytail doesn’t make them look like a girl.

  • Amazing, the hinting at what the plot could be about is chilling (in a good way). I cannot wait to see what happens over the course of the game. Oh, I’m so excited for the release of this. I may even buy a Japanese 3DS to play it with this voice cast. This entire trailer (with the subs), sent an immense amount of chills through me. Oh, it looks so good.

  • ChromeOrihara

So,does this game take place in feudal Japan and modern Japan simultaneously? There seemed to be both settings in the trailer, what with the samurai and AIs and all.
P.S. Did I hear Nakai Kazuya in there or was it my imagination?

    • No, It’s a post apocalyptic Japan, and the characters are from a country within Japan called Mikado Country

  • Shane Guidaboni

Knowing what they’re saying has me ever more hyped now.

  • I’m in love.

The mention of the “demons” progression and with it a landscape of a sprawling Tokyo metropolis… “I want to change this rotten world”.

My mind is buzzing right now of this implication of future humans (In the view of the main characters’ timeline) possibly being demons or involved with them. Perhaps gained power and knowledge as a result (The reference to Adam taking the apple because it was forbidden, rather), growing into an almost unmanageable state. This is definitely SMT. No matter how many parallels there are between the titles they always manage to get me excited with every new presentation through characters, setting, philosophy and that MUSIC… oh yes, it is a good time for games, friends.

  • Demeanor

Wow awesome, really good content (aside from that horrible-looking battle system)!
I’m going to go pray for an enhanced port in the future… (praypraypray… but… “who can I pray to? There are only demons and fiends here!” XD)

  • Tales_of_Master

For some reason, this game feels way bigger than the old SMT games. I feel like I’m gonna sink 70+ hours easily just doing the one route without sidequests. I’m interested to know more about the main five characters, especially how each of them is gonna die XD Also, I wonder if the person talking at the end of the trailer is the Chaos Hero, or the main antagonist. All in all, can’t get anymore hyped :D

  • Alexander Aubert

i bet they will have to fight a god

    • RPGRocker

I bet they’ll have to climb a really tall tower.

  • Thanks! I think I saw this trailer like ten times already, I’m so ready for this!

  • puchinri

I am loving all of the VAs, especially many of the familiar voices. They seem to fit characters very well too. Also, this feels fantastically SMT to me, and I’m terribly excited. ♥

  • Miyuki <3

  • Demons are more advanced then us?? Tht can’t be good. Also, is the city in the end of trailer a demon city??

  • DDanny

Nothing will feel better than crushing samurais with the chaos fulled power of SCIENCE
