Turn Fried Eggs Into Dungeons In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 3DS

The latest in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series will be released in the winter of 2012 on the Nintendo 3DS. As you’ve probably heard, the game, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Magna Gate and the Infinite Labyrinth, will be completely rendered in 3D. It looks like the models that are being used for the Pokédex 3D will be used in this game as well. You can watch a trailer here.

Many aspects of the game will be kept the same as those in previous installments to the series. The game will stay true to its rogue-like genre in terms of gameplay. It will also start with the same premise—that you, the player, were somehow transformed into a Pokémon and suddenly wake up in a world full of Pokémon.

The Pokémon you can play as are Pikachu, Axew, Snivy, Oshawott, and Tepig. Thus far, it’s assumed that your primary partner Pokémon will be one of those types as well.

Throughout the course of the game, you’ll still accept quests and explore dungeons.  However, this time, there is a new way to access dungeons, called the Magna Gates. These gates are activated using the 3DS camera. Just point the camera at any remotely round object, and this object will serve as the “entrance” to a new dungeon. The dungeons are randomly generated and will be different every time you enter.

Possible entrances to dungeons.

You will still be able to befriend Pokémon in the dungeons, and the dungeons will still be filled with items, puzzles, and traps.  The story in Infinite Labyrinth is said to be even more dramatic than the previous ones in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, which already have comparatively complex and touching stories compared to the rest of the franchise.

As previously reported, Pokémon from Black/White 2 will be included in this game. By my speculation, the fact that it’s the sequel that is specifically mentioned probably means that certain legendaries will be making appearances in the game that weren’t present in the original Black/White.

  • This game looks absolutely baws. I love Pokemon and for good reason. Infinite random dungeons and a more enriching story than previous game? Gorgeous.

I wonder…Since Nintendo is moving to the DLC era, they’ll probably tell us if you want to become one of the older gen starter pokemons at the beginning, you have to download them…..Which is pretty stupid…

    • Arrei

What you’re describing there is the Capcom/EA DLC era.

Nintendo is our last hope against the darkness! If they fall too, then truly we are lost…

      •  well, the DLC for Fire Emblem wasn’t exactly very good at all

        • Arrei

Free Spotpass maps and characters, along with optional paid characters that also came with their own maps and were not just taken out of the main game to be sold to us in bits and pieces, and some of which came with entire new classes, that were only developed after the release of the game instead of being developed beforehand as “day 1 DLC”… that sounds pretty good to me.

Yeah, but you get 1 character and map per near 500yen purchase…
And then there were the similar priced gold and experience maps.

Map packs of 3~5 battles with a special character would have been better I think.

          • Arrei

The DLC thus far is all priced at 200-400 yen, with the only 400-yen ones being Arum, Celice, Eirika, Lyn, and Ike.

Yes, obviously even more stuff would have been even better, but now that’s just demanding even more stuff for a price that would just get you a character skin or something in another game.

I’m excited about this, mainly because all 3 event legendaries are out in Japan so they’ll probably be in this game.

Can’t wait to nuke enemies with Genesect in 3D.

  • DuskSharkEX

I wonder, are there infinite dungeons in my eyes?

    • AuraGuyChris

      DuskSharkEX’s Right Eye

  • I really do hope I can be a Vulpix again

    • AuraGuyChris

      Or a Riolu.

  • Andres Pena

YES my only issue is who i should choose Snivy or Oshawott??? welll in the end my main well be reuniclus and chandelure as my partner and ill switch between the two occasionally as i love them both <3

  • Benny Tormoes

    I think I’m about to have a fangasm :D :D :D

  • Maia Kasoya

There are so many jokes I could make about using round objects as dungeon entrances, yet I can’t come up with one.

I kinda wish the Wii games would be localized but this should make up for it if NoA localizes this.
