I Fought Ys Celceta’s Giant Fish Boss

At Tokyo Game Show, Falcom had a playable build of Ys Celceta: Sea of Trees. There were two options a field demo and a boss fight. Since I’m fond of Falcom’s big boss battles, I chose the latter option.

(Not the boss I fought, but this is another one of Ys Celceta’s water bosses.)

Adol, Dulen, and Ozma were in my party. A giant blue fish with a lantern on its head called Angoraboras (or something like that) was the enemy. I guess the lantern was the weak point so I ran up with Adol and started hacking away at the fish’s face. Dulen doesn’t have as much range since he fights with his fists. Ozma, on the other hand, has a spear and longer reach. While I chipped away at Angoraboras’ life bar, the creature tried to slap me with his giant fins and shot shot water cannonballs at me. After damaging Angoraboras enough it leaped out of the water above Adol and company to the other side of the lake. It swam underwater for a bit where I couldn’t hit it. Angoraboras reemerged with a vengeance and attacked furiously.

Somehow I managed to learn a new skill with Ozma in the midst of the chaos and charged up enough SP to do a super attack. I switched over to Adol who dove into Angoraboras. That still wasn’t enough to finish the huge fish off. The boss had about a 1/3 of its life bar left when my time was up. Fish 1, me 0.

It feels like Falcom made exciting boss battles for Ys Celceta: Sea of Trees and the game won’t be easy. Like other Ys games, Ys Celceta: Sea of Trees lets players choose a difficulty level ranging from Easy to Nightmare. The game comes out in Japan tomorrow.

  • AlteisenX

That field is beautiful. *tears up*

I hope it comes over to the west soon since 4 and 5 are the only ones I have yet to play…

Does that giant enemy crab take massive damage when you get it on its back and hit its weak point?

    • Shane Guidaboni

“This game is historically accurate and takes place in Ancient Japan. Here’s a giant enemy crab.”

  • Shane Guidaboni

How many YS games are there now? I haven’t played a single one and I wouldn’t even know where to start at this point.

    • Wagnaria

I’m not sure about the total of created Ys games but I have only played 6 so far.

IMO start with Ys Seven [Because of it's new Party system which Ys Celceta is now using]. Before/on past games Adol is the only character you could control and just have to bump your enemies from sides to kill it [that is Ys 1,2 and 4's Oldschool gameplay, but was very fun.] The latter games such as Ys 3, 5 and 6 is similar to Zelda games where pressing a button would make Adol swing his sword.

You really don’t need any background from the past games since every Ys game feels new [Every new game is a new Land/continent.]. Adol is an adventurer and goes continents to continents  meeting new friends, encountering new enemies/anomalies, discovering unexplored areas and even gaining new powers, thus forging a brand new story.

      • Shane Guidaboni

Cool! Thanks for background of the games. I’ll try and find Ys Seven.

Out today in Japan (well, in Japan it’s the 27th now even if it’s not yet Thursday for me…)  Can’t wait for my copy to arrive, I just had to import for Ys :)

And I’ll gladly double-dip for an English localized version, but I’m not waiting on that to experience the game!

Out at the PSN store right now at 6200y , same with EDF3 and DJ MAX Technika Tune, here we go 32gb card >__>

  • Ryan Chiu

    Damn it. XSeed, localize this!

    • MrSirFeatherFang

The same could be said for all Falcom games…

This game is looking good. I got plenty to play though. I still want to finish Oath of Felgana.

  • AokiShizuku

The game comes out in Japan tomorrow.

Wait what?! ..Checks my wallet and I find out it’s empty.. Noooooooooooo!!

  • AweOfShe

Made my payment with Amiami yesterday. Why is the wait for it to arrive on Mon or Tues, more unbearable than the wait of the release day? D:

The question now is, will these fights have a badass matching boss song a la Vacant Interference / Legend of the Four Dragons like Ys Seven did~?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/GFQYYWFUR2SBFLKIITVECS5NAI Erik

Falcom tend to have a *very* good track record with regards to music. Have a listen: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/AwesomeMusic/Ys

Notable music(to me at least): Overdrive, the Strongest Foe, Valestein’s Castle

Lastly, Crossing Rage ~= Vacant Interference >_>
