By Spencer . October 19, 2012 . 1:21am

Furyu brought together a dozen artists for Unchained Blades Exxiv, the sequel to the PSP dungeon crawler Xseed released in North America. Durarara!! and Devil Survivor artist Suzuhito Yasuda created Unchained Blades Exxiv’s protagonist and Final Fantasy illustrator Yoshitaka Amano designed one of the villains.

I’ve never followed particular artists, but the cover image on this story was instantly recognizable to me as Devil Survivor style art.  Maybe I’ve immersed myself in JRPGs so much that I’m finally starting to perceive the finer details and differences.

…unfortunately, I didn’t particularly like the style in Devil Survivor either :(

    • How could you not like it what is this blasphemy!

      • Well frm the comment I read not everyone is pleased with Yasuda anti gravity b00bs.

        • Ethan_Twain

I wasn’t even thinking of that, but yeah that has always bugged me.  Devil Survivor 2 was even worse about that than the original.  Not a single reasonably proportioned female character.  At least Devil Survivor 1 mixed the girls with flotation devices in their breasts in with normal females.

Hector, I think we found your friend tht has gone nuts.

Still waiting for the 3DS version of the first game…

    • XSEED is working on it. It should hopefully be out by the end of the year, but it might be pushed back to 2013.

    Where’s the 3DS version D:

  • Kai2591

Anyone knows the illustrator of the purple hair woman with the giant flail?
    I like the art style~

  • XiaomuArisu

That red-haired chick with the big breast is the only stupid looking…dunno why,its just not my taste.

    • raymk

She is the stupid looking one but not the little girl with blonde hair?

      • XiaomuArisu

Nope.Just the red-haired moe overdose, breast overdose is not my taste.
Too much is just too much.

    • No comment on busty villain girl? She has the biggest chest lol.

  • Tianyu Wei

Never liked First Person RPGs :/ What’s the point of designing gorgeous characters but you don’t see them in battle? Just static portraits…

    • Hatsuu

It’s actually a dungeon crawler, and it follows many traits of the genre, including first-person movement through maps and first-person battles. If it’s anything like the first game, though, there’s character portraits available in the main menu, and enough cutscenes (probably even more, being that it’s a sequel), both still art and animated, to keep an art-happy person satisfied.

  • Wow that art is amazing! I’ll take the red & white dragon girl and the girl with the two sticks please =^_^=

    Localization is needed! >_<

    • raymk

I’ll take the white angel girl and the woman with the two blades(or at least I think those are blades)

      • Agreed, the angel girl is also a beauty =^_^=

    • I want a harem ending XD

To be specific, its Red Head and Blondie. But harem is fine too.

  • First one was pretty great. This is looking super sharp.
