Resident Evil 6 December Update To Add Ada Wong Co-Op, Camera Improvements

Resident Evil 6 is getting a free title update on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in mid-December, which will bring a bunch of additions and improvements to the game, Capcom have announced.

 

Here’s a rundown of what you can expect to see:

 

1. Ability to adjust the camera for a greater field-of-view. The screenshots above (and more further down in this report) illustrate this by showing the minimum and maximum range of the new camera. Capcom say that the camera is still in development and may change before the title update is released.

 

2. Improvements to subtitle options. You’ll now be able to combine English-language audio with subtitles in another language.

 

3. Optional co-op partner for Ada Wong’s campaign. Ada’s campaign will also be unlocked from the start of the game, following the title update.

 

4. “No Hope” difficulty added for a greater challenge.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom restricted the field of view to keep performance “high” and now they’ve widened and pulled it back, the framerate chugs more.

    Hmmm… Looks like your standard BSAA soldier for Ada coop. Looking good, though. Can’t wait to see the new camera angle. Finished Jake and Chris so far. One more chapter for Leon, and then it’s Ada all the way. Yeah, my god daughter and I, are having a blast with this game, despite the reviewers and haters.

      I bought the game and I enjoy it. So I don’t really care about the reviews or random haters.

    HUNK? i thought it was sort of implied Jake was HUNK.

    Also love the new camera, it gives better sight of your surroundings, will be especially helpful on Mercenaries.

    And i love the chance to mix english voice and other languages subs, i hated that i had to change my PS3 to english language so the game didn’t played in the awful Spaniard dubs.

      Jake is way too young to be Hunk. He’s only 20 in the game.

      Hunk did all his business with Umbrella in 1998, so unless Hunk was a 6 year old, they are not the same person.

      Now, if you said Alex Wesker, then you may be on to something.

    Gotta love this gen. Hindsight messing up on your dreams of releasing a GOTY game, make a patch to correct those nasty mistakes and silent your haters.

    In any case, I’ll pick this up next month. Come on, Black Friday, save daddy some money!

      And in 5-10 years, when you replay these games on original hardware (or even new through emulation) and you don’t have the patches downloaded and the service to download the patches no longer exists (see Xbox Live for the original Xbox) you’re left with all the broken/incompetent design of the original Disc release.

      Don’t believe for one second that current-gen services are going to transition smoothly to future services, enabling everything we have now to go on.

      Games are becoming more disposable than ever, so we rely on our favourite POPULAR games being rereleased in the future if we want the patched experience. Assuming the publisher keeps all the patch data and notes and cares enough to integrate them with the full game. Just look at the mess of Silent Hill HD Collection. It’s not even based on the finished DVD game.

        I as well see this (process) as rather problematic.

        You know, it has become common place for patches to become part of later revisions of the disc, right? So, I don’t think there’s going to be any problem with this.

        As for the Silent Hill Collection, that was just poor programming. Blue Point games reverse engineer all of their games from the finished copies of the game. HiJinx could have done that if they were a talented enough studio, but, instead they put the blame on Konami not giving them the finished code, when other studios don’t need it to do superior HD conversions.

          No problem? Apart from different disks having different versions of the game and hunting down the fully patched one will be a great hassle. I am really not looking forward to being nostalgic towards this generation of games in 10-15 years.

            Well, I can see your concern, considering that the internet is being shut off completely and companies don’t ever keep records of these sort of things…

            “Companies” can’t even keep track of their own sourcecodes for the actual games so what makes you think that they value to keep peripheral patches when the product it is linked to have long ceased production? Sure with the help of this magical internet you mention they will probably still be around in some capacity, just not in “legit” ways for most games.

    And I don’t think I’m going to need a partner for Ada, but thank for the option

    I don’t imagine a co-op partner in the Ada chapters would do anything but get in the way.

    I really am wondering about Ada co-op. Not only is her campaign based around a single character but fluffwise she prefers to work alone. I wonder if the second character will be mentioned at all or if they’re non-entity in terms of story e.g. System Shock 2 co-op.

    I don’t think the FOV of the camera was the problem that people were having, I think it’s more how some characters/weapons make you fill up more screenspace for some reason.

    The camera needed to be uniform for all weapons, instead of changing depending on what you are wielding.

    I didn’t really have an issue with the camera at all though, but this should help those that did.

    And Ada coop is just…well fun I guess for everyone who’s already finished it solo; it would be more in place if coop would only unlock if you’ve finished it -the way it was intended- first.

    Something sinks here, These options should have been in the disk in the first place   rather than being added weeks later down the line after its release. 

    I really hate when Game companies think that they can release a unpolished game and expect to fix it via DLC.

       Most games even the old ones nedeed some fix in something the good thing now is that they can actually do it via dlc if it’s free (it should be) so I don’t know why complain. Yeah unpolished can it be yet it’s still a fix and is welcome.
      I would complain more for DLC that are actually in the game or content that should be in the game and you have to pay a lot for it.
