This week’s Famitsu magazine reports brought us new information on Tales of Hearts R for the PlayStation Vita. As reported last night, Hearts R is 50% of the way through development and that the game’s battles are now in full 3D. More details can be found here.

Today, Famitsu.com have shared the first screenshots of the game, showing off its new 3D visuals. You can take a look at them below:

  • LETS PRAY FOR LOCALIZATION

    Hisui look lovely as always.

  • Tales_of_Master

My god the game really looks gorgeous. Glad to see Chalcedny playable since I really liked him in the original. Not much to be said about this except for hoping to get this in the U.S. since it’s one of the best Tales games I played in the recent years. Don’t disappoint us Baba.

  • Brandon001

“a guy who can’t even make the girl in front of him smile?”

This quote and Shing’s Portrait from Graces F Magic Carta is the closest i am to being familiar with Hearts.

Namdai, please change that. i would absolutely love to get more familiar with these characters and story.

God i love Tales, Shings design is chill liking his outfit.

    • Tails the Foxhound

I hate Shing’s look myself, but that’s only because he reminds me of Jaden Yuki from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, lol.

Looks very nice. Cannot wait to see if Namco Bandai will bring this over or not. Hopefully they will. I really wanted Tales of Hearts for the DS, but since that didn’t happen, I hope that it will be rectified with this version.

  • Letiumtide

While it’s a little sad due to the fact that Tales of Hearts was in a way supposed to be a love-letter to the Tales games of yesteryear, it’s also nice to see what it looks like when a 2D game gets proper 3D treatment. It’s rare these days, likely because companies feel that it’s not worth that much effort going back.

I hope that Tales can set a new standard for what it means to remake a classic game, I can think of more than a few old RPGs or games in general that I’d be very curious to see get remade from the ground up like this.

  • Arklight

While it looks wonderful visually, I am actually quite upset that they’re using a TP system instead of the Emotional Gauge that the original used on the DS.

Same thing happened with Innocence R where they pitched its unique battle adjunct, the “styles” system.
      You go, “re-imagined” game!

      • Arklight

Well…I can’t exactly say I’m too upset about THAT. All the style system really did was artificially add hours to the clock. This is the battle system though. I mean, using CC would even make a bit more sense.

    • gk2012

Well, there’s still that mysterious number on the lower left of Shing’s and Chalcedony’s icons in the battle screens. So it could be CC based instead.

  • Rogerrmark

Graphics are in pair with Graces quality.Wouln’t be surprised if Kohak’s model was the same from Graces as well.Do want!

  • Demeanor

Looks gorgeous, way better than ToIR (and I’m talking about character art too).
    Btw I need to go order dat ToX2 this evening… ^ ^

  • agumike (けんじ)

    Needs moar Beryl

  • http://vanilladice.deviantart.com/ Dice

These are better than Innocence R’s graphics — but 100x more bland than the original DS title.  I can’t say I’m digging how grey and flat the colours are, the DS game was really colourful and bright. Uninspiring I guess, they’re not bad, but definitely not great — and again (haters can hate) the Vita can do better and so can the Tales studio (or whoever behind this).

    • Kefkiroth

The colors will probably look much better on the Vita’s OLED than on a regular LCD computer monitor. I thought the same for other game screenshots like Gravity Rush and instantly saw how much better it looked on an actual Vita.

      • Elvick

That’s a good point. Screens of Vita games don’t really do the games justice. Especially with the fail screenshot feature of the actual Vita… still don’t understand why they’re blown up when you transfer them to a PC.

  • tubers

Looks clean at least (like a PS2 game).

I hope the edges are as smooth as that.. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if those images have some extra anti-aliasing Shopped into it.

    • Elvick

Bullshots is a problem with handheld games. Annoys me.

      • tubers

I’ve learned to have low expectations of those SS.. if it doesn’t have much jaggies then it’s pretty obvious it’s fake.

Not that I truly care though.. I’d probably just feel bad for suckers who think it would look like that.

        • Elvick

Well it sucks, because I mean… they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

Screens don’t ever really look as good as the game itself on the Vita. :/

  • Leon_Tekashi

    Wow, it looks pretty.

  • evilmoogle

    Game looks very nice!
Wait a min… they are using TP again?
    dammit…

  • Tien Ron

the game looks amazing really glad to see this get remade!
i wonder if richea is going to be playable to most likely

  • LynxAmali

I’m not sure how I like it being 3D. I really liked Hearts DS because it went back to the older 2D style in battle.

    That being said, looks good.

  • neetyneety

Lookin’ good. Never got to play (or hell, even see) it on DS, so I don’t really have any gripes or comments about the whole transition from 2D to 3D.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/HAEBCODVH3BGFIHE47BKNDXD2I Jonathan

    damn, them some purteh graphics

  • Elvick

Looking good. Can’t say I’m not a little disappointed it’s in 3D now, but I’m just glad it has another chance to be brought over here so I can play it… in a language I understand. xP
