Patapon Developer Made Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection

By Spencer . November 6, 2012 . 4:35pm

imageDragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection is Namco Bandai’s first HD port and they chose Pyramid to handle it. Pyramid made the quirky music game Patapon and ported Dragon Ball Z Budokai from PlayStation 2 to Gamecube.

Pyramid also Busou Shinki: Battle Masters and brought The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Zero to Vita. Unless you count the shader programming Pyramid did for El Shaddai, Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection is their first HD title.

Thanks for the tip Roberto!

So there’s absolutely no excuse for why this Collection doesn’t use the improved GameCube version of Budokai. Pyramid was the company that ported it … They also did Budokai 2 GC, and a few of the Data Carddass games.

Dragon Ball Z sure is popular here in the West.

Am I the only one who thinks that Dragon Ball, which gets much less attention, from video games or otherwise, was much more interesting than Dragon Ball Z?

Also, I’m I the only American who likes the Dr. Slump franchise a whole lot more than the Dragonball franchise?

(That was a rhetorical hyperbole thingy. I know I’m not the only American who thinks this.)

Z had it’s moments but Dragon Ball was better overall.  Z got too power level crazy with a heavy focus on the saiyans the longer it went on, what I liked about Dragon Ball is pretty much everyone got a chance to shine, it would have been better for the series to just end it after Frieza.  Dr. Slump does not get enough attention.

Yeah but that last Dr Slump NDS game was wack as hell. I kinda liked the PS1 game. Though I’m kinda pissed we never got New Dr. Slump Anime translated over here to the West…

I loved all of Dragon Ball. Z up to a point. Which was after Super Saiyan wasn’t the ‘greatest thing ever’ anymore. I hate that kind of thing.

Don’t make something the ‘ultimate’ if you’re just going to one up it over and over and over and over again. D:<

“Pyramid also Busou Shinki: Battle Masters …” don’t wanna be an ass but it seems there’s a verb missing there.

Weird thing, they used the original ps2 version for the HD? maybe that’s why it looks the same, only with 16:9 Graphics.

Good to know the port’s in capable hand, then.

It seems weird that out of all things Namco would make their first HD Collection of, it would be DBZ Budokai. Why not a Xenosaga HD Collection? I’d preorder that instantly.

Because that’s owned by Monolith Soft, which is owned by Nintendo now.

Why not 2?! WHY? That was my favorite of the 3 :(

    • Budgiecat

the gameplay was the best in 3. Even better in Shin Budokai and Infinite World (but whatever) There’s no online so I’m not that motivated to get it anyway
