Team Ninja On Wii U Hardware, Bringing QTE Free Ninja Gaiden 3 To PS3 & 360

Team Ninja is one of the early third party Wii U developers and when we met with studio head Yosuke Hayashi we asked him we he thought about Nintendo’s new console.

"In terms of power, it’s right up there with PS3 and Xbox 360 plus the power to run the extra screen on the controller. There is plenty of power there to use," Hayashi stated. "For all of Nintendo’s hardware, it’s not about power; it’s about how you creatively use the hardware. When we make games for Nintendo, they are going to come and challenge us to use that hardware to make a creative game. That’s the key point from Nintendo that we always feel."

While Hayashi said he has ideas for future Wii U titles, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge uses the Wii U GamePad to make the game more convenient. The touch screen has ninpo and change weapon buttons plus a move list players can scroll.

"Ninja Gaiden is a console game, so we’re focused on playing it as a console game. We haven’t done a whole lot to change that because we know our fans who love that experience, and we don’t want to betray them. We don’t want to leave them out in the cold. It’s been focused on making that experience even more convenient for them," Hayashi explained.

The most significant changes in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge are under the hood. Team Ninja cut out the Steel on Bone quick time events and revamped enemy artificial intelligence. They fight to the death in Razor’s Edge instead of pleading for their lives. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge also gives Ryu DLC weapons like the Falcon Talons when the game starts and adds Ayane as a playable character in certain missions. Fns have been critical of Ninja Gaiden 3′s QTE, so I asked Hayashi-san if they would re-release the game with hardcore features like enhanced AI and dismemberment or offer fans who bought the PS3 and Xbox 360 version a downloadable update.

"Right now we are just really focused on getting Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge out, but we do want as many people as possible to experience that challenge and that fun. So having that on other platforms we’re working on that idea. We are looking at that, but right now, we are focused on Razor’s Edge," Hayashi answered.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will also have new downloadable content. Team Ninja mentioned this during their Tokyo Game Show event, but haven’t not disclosed what it is yet. "Will people who bought Ninja Gaiden 3 for PS3 and Xbox 360 be able to get the upcoming DLC?"

"We can’t say for sure how it will be coming to the other consoles, but we are thinking of ways to be able to make Ninja Gaiden fans on all consoles happy," Hayashi replied.

Sounds like I may not have to buy a Wii-U after all.

It’s Wii U time now buy it nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

It’s foolish to buy any system when it first comes out, to be quite honest. You’re doing the right thing by waiting.

  • malek86

Well I do hope they eventually find a way to make the current version up to par with the Wii U one, if not in content at least in gameplay.

  • Godmars

Would still like to see enemies pleading for their lived, so long as I get the option to let them go/knock them out/tie them up.

  • Solomon_Kano

Wait, the PS3 version could end up with Razor’s Edge’s improvements? I’d be happy if we just saw the Steel on Bone thing axed, so anything beyond that… Team Ninja, I love you. I really do. Now let’s see if it happens. Fingers crossed, folks.

  • British_Otaku

Probably going to be a Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge Sigma on the PS3 and 360 (and some other capable systems someday – likely even the Wii U). We know NG is their bread and butter and the original is likely to reach every portable following the Vita and every console for the future. >_> It’s like FUNimation with Dragon Ball Z.

Shame that the story is going to clash with the gameplay so much despite all of this work to make the game bett- good.

    • Kevin Tan

Nintendo-published with staff involvement = good luck with that.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

There’s a whole article on how they got around the very same limitations on NG2 for 360, when creating NGS2 for PS3.

        • Kevin Tan

But Microsoft isn’t Nintendo.  Nintendo published and financed games don’t leave Nintendo systems. :

          • Nemesis_Dawn

Doesn’t matter. It can be gotten around, especially in this case. Not to mention, this is an article where they are pretty much saying that you’re wrong without outright killing the sales of this version.

You act like Microsoft doesn’t have fairly strict exclusivity rights too, especially on a game they published. But there are ways of getting around these things, as Team Ninja have shown.I, for one, can’t wait to see what improvements NG3 Sigma has over Razor’s Edge.

  • AuraGuyChris

    Challenge developers…?

    THE PAST

Miyamoto: *Shows Wii* Dare to take this challenge?

    Third-Parties: *Whimper and run away*

    Iwata: [Laughs]

  • SoulEmbrace2010

For the love of all that’s holy, MAKE NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA 3 FOR PS3 AND XBOX 360 THAT HAS ALL THE COOL STUFF AND UPDATES FROM RAZOR’S EDGE!!!

    • Kevin Tan

This version would technically already be a “Sigma” version.  Nintendo published = unlikely any Razor’s Edge exclusive content will be on other consoles.  Nintendo has pretty strong publishing agreements.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

Yet the very article you’re reading pretty much says they’re looking at ways around that, so don’t be surprised when in a year or so, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 3 shows up with all of these improvements and more for PS3/360.

        • Kevin Tan

But there’s no precedent for a Nintendo published game with exclusive content showing up on other consoles (outside of Samurai Warriors 3, though the JP release was NOT published by Nintendo, and the US/EU never saw the PS3 and PSP versions); Nintendo isn’t going to let the money they invested into improving the game benefit a competitor’s platform.  It’s more likely that we’d see a multiplatform NG4 rather than a THIRD release of 3, or at best some DLC for playable characters for the vanilla version.

I like that you are basically reading this article and then putting your fingers in your ears, going “La-la-la-I can’t hear you-la-la-la” when you’re confronted by not only an article that says this will probably end up on the other current gen consoles, but evidence that this sort of this has happened with Tecmo before when they dealt with a console company.

It’s going to happen. Face it. I know you want everyone to just buy a Wii U, because you want Nintendo to succeed, but ignoring facts and an article that you are commenting on where the guys in charge of the game have given every hint possible that wouldn’t violate an NDA is silly.

“We can’t say for sure how it will be coming to the other consoles, but we are thinking of ways to be able to make Ninja Gaiden fans on all consoles happy,” Hayashi replied.

Yes they might be looking for ways around it but it’s most likely isn’t going to be in the same form as the WiiU version if they have signed an agreement with Ninty, I suppose it just depends on how the contract is worded.

    • Kefkiroth

I think the point of this release is to sell Wii Us.

  • Closet_Ninja

well well i guess a little faith is restored in team ninja for me. wonder when we’ll get more news on this, also how much will this cost the other consoles

  • Brian Adamson

He said a lot of nothing, havent seen that much lip service sense the election.

  • Brian Adamson

I have not seen so much said but nothing said and just general lip flapping sense the election.

  • Göran Isacson

Makes sense they decided to axe the Steel on Bone and enemy pleading- I doubt they had anything like a reward system for letting enemies live planned out, and if you don’t have a reason to spare them, you don’t really have a reason for them to plead either. And in the demo I played, the lack of Steel on Bone made the fights feel a lot more fluid. Ballshard, but at least more fluid.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

Good, Team Ninja. This does restore my faith in you a little bit. I’ll just wait for the Sigma edition, which will probably have all of this and probably slightly a little more (probably playable Rachel, since they love putting her in the Sigma games). Playing the NG3 demo made me cancel my pre-order, so I was spared.

  • eilegz

sigma edition its coming…. wait for it

sigma edition its coming…. wait for it

    • dichromaticb3c

Sigma2 was censored…  The original NG2 on 360 was much more visceral, bloody, and gory.  Team Ninja was avoiding an AO rating for Sigma 2.  Screw watered down versions.  That’s the issue with 3.  It was watered down.  Glad they’re fixing it though.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

They weren’t concerned about an AO rating on Sigma 2. It would have been an M rating, just like vanilla NG2 was.

What they were concerned with was the Japanese ratings. They did not want a Cero Z rating. As it is, the Japanese version is even more censored than the NA/European versions. To have had one PS3 version with tons of blood and one without would have probably have been too much effort, so they just cut it out from both of them.

        • dichromaticb3c

LOL I was referring to the Japanese rating.  Cero Z is their equivalent of our AO right?

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

Good will wait for PS3 edition now.

  • Elvick

I knew they’d release this game more and more.  They just can’t help themselves.

    • TrevHead

You talk as if releasing a game on multiple platforms is a bad thing

      • Elvick

I have nothing against multiplatform games. I have something against a developer releasing poor games, then re-releasing on another system to improve it, then doing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Maybe they should make the game right the first time.

  • Elvick

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/5O266I6427AQIXPAP5ZQ5DK3GM Bob Meaty

I think it’s too little too late. Even if it came out on PS3 I’d skip it – they need to do more than go BACK to NG2 mechanics. The series needs to move forward.

Also this says so much about Hayashi’s incompetence. He’s still in Itagaki’s shadow.

  • TrevHead

It’s good that Team Ninja is going back to he drawing board with this game and giving us a NG3.5

  • Shogunreaper

You can never go wrong when removing QTEs, they are annoying as hell.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    great

  • colorblindnightmare

To me, Doa 5 restored some of your honor team ninja, but not all of it. if you give us a free downlaod that adds razors features i will put you back to the neutral zone and you can try again. Also, please think of ways t progress your series, especially one with a very strong fan base.

  • Visa Vang

Get us an update and all will be good. (I just wanna play the girls in general. GIVE ME KASUMI AS PLAYABLE!!)
