Youkai Watch Comic Coming Before The 3DS Game

By Spencer . November 16, 2012 . 2:01pm

Level-5’s business strategy involves more than making games. Inazuma Eleven and the Little Battlers Expereince are cross media projects with comics, anime series, and plastic model kits. Youkai Watch is going the same route and will first appear as a comic in CoroCoro Comic on December 15.

Youkai Watch takes place in Sakura NewTown where ghosts are part of everyday life.

Keita Amano, an eleven year old boy, is the main character. Whisper(the ghost-like creature) and Jibanyan ("nya" is like "meow" in Japanese) join him. Keita’s watch helps him find youkai when he looks around town. While some youkai are friendly, others cause a ruckus in town and it’s up to Keita to defeat them with a party of three youkai. Youkai Watch is in development for Nintendo 3DS.

  • Glad to have finally found out more about this game. Very excited to see what will be going on with this game. Hopefully Level 5 brings this one out of Japan.

First thought when I saw the hero.

Ah, so that’s why my brain shouted “Day 1! Anime NOW!” when I saw the kid.

Jimminy jellikers. You end up explaining what “nya” is so much that you might as well put it on the top of the main page :P

  • The cross media projects they have already (Inazuma Eleven in my case) is a great  way to establish and strengthen the brands as long as the IP’s anime and comic have great appeal.

I look forward to seeing the anime for Youkai Watch, it seems interesting.

Am I the only one around here who thinks that Jibanya is dancing Gangnam Style?? I mean… it looks like the elevator guy!

Level-5 Needs to expand their protagonists. It’s always seem to be little boys.

Some female protags would be awesome. Of varying ages would be even better~.

Such is what the protagonists tend to be in shounen animu and vidya period.

Although, as of Double the LBX characters at least seem quite a bit noticeably older than the Inazuma Eleven characters. Even if it’s only been a year since the first LBX at the start of Double.

    My, Level-5 know how to make a pretty-looking 3DS game, don’t they?

It’s nice to see the game getting coverage again/having more news, and I hope we see more and more.
