Capcom have released a new batch of screenshots of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and this lot shows direct comparisons between the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U versions of the game. Check out the differences between the two (greater texture detail on Wii U for the most part) below:

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be released in March 2013 with cross-play between 3DS and Wii U, and online play on the Wii U version.

It looks really good, even on the 3DS. Not that graphical details matter when you got a handheld.

  • Namuro

  • Shadowman

Still looks glorious on the 3DS.

  • i want

  • Blesmi

    Lookin sexy.

  • There really isn’t much of downgrade to the 3DS ver. no matter how you look at it.

*happily sighs* Gonna preorder that when I can.

  • StarWarudo

Never played a Monster Hunter game before, but I am very interested. Is the gameplay/combat like Dark Souls because that’s the vibe I get from the screenshots.

    •  I played one on the Wii, and my take on it is it is a lot slower than Dark Souls.  Everything just seems to take forever at the start.  As long as you have patience, I assume it gets better.  I didn’t have the patience and changed to Xenoblade after about 6 hours of Monster Hunter.

      • Ferofax

It only starts getting better once you get better equipment, so you could challenge stronger wyverns. You only get better equipment if you get good at killing wyverns using subpar equipment. If you can’t get past that hurdle, you obviously wouldn’t get far. Also, it’s much much harder for people who like to have everything, lol. OCD is a real curse in this game. >_0)/

    • Showmeyomoves

Not really. There’s no lock-on for starters. The only comparison I can see between these two games is that both can be very challenging at times, but all the more rewarding for it. :)

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

It seems i am going to get both of the game here.T_T I would love to play my handheld version with all my local friends while playing the console version for online.^_^

One question though. Can i played co-op locally on console?

    • Symbol de Au

Yes if your friends have 3DS’ and the game which it seems they will?

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

No. What i mean here is, can i play like one player on the Wii U game pad while my friend will play on the TV screen?

Or even can i connect Wii U play with my 3DS play to play co-op together?

        • Symbol de Au

Two people with just Wii U gamepad/tv screen probably not.(except with Arena like in Tri for Wii but maybe if we’re lucky it won’t just be split screen…)

Yes the Wii U version can connect with up to three 3DS for full local co-op, but I think they all have to have the 3DS version of Tri G. You can also transfer data between the two so very convenient if you’re getting both.

          • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Tx for the info there.^_^ Well, at least i will be able to play Mon Hun on my Tv screen with all of my other friends.^_^

  • konsama

Woulda been epic if they released by this time rather than till March. :/ Anyway, is still good enough we’re getting it.

    • Ferofax

I say give it the full stretch. Shortchanging the time would mean getting a rushed localization.

  • I’ve never paid much attention to the Monster Hunter series, but lately I find myself wanting to play this game.

  • I wish this somehow get a PS3 and 360 port, I think Monster Hunter would sell well if it goes on multiple consoles.

  • MrRobbyM

720p is already gorgeous. So 1080p is going to look freakin’ sexy.

  • Benny Tormoes

    Both look spectacular :D

  • DragonSix

Makes the 3DS version look glorious, and the WiiU one like a lazy quick port. The pictures are friggin identical except for the resolution.

  • Areuto

Zinogre is a badass here and Zinogre is a badass there… nice to know the difference

  • Yor

I’m still thinking about what to get first, a 3DS or a WII U, but either way I will have this game :’)

  • So there is no online on the 3DS version? :(

    • Ferofax

      People are still asking this?

      • I still keep getting different messages. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and sometimes its not even mentioned.

        • Firefox

No nation-wide online multiplayer on 3DS, ONLY Local Multiplayer.

  • steinhauershawn

It’s amazing how well the 3DS version held up and is only slightly inferior unlike past Generation where a handheld version of a game would be vastly inferior to Home Console.
