No Online Pass Required For Tekken Tag Tournament 2 On Wii U

By Spencer . November 19, 2012 . 8:12pm

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition has online multiplayer, but unlike the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions an online pass is not required. New copies of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 include an online pass, but if you purchase the game used you need to spend $10 to fight online.

Before you can get online you need to download an update for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition, which took about five minutes to complete. I fought against a couple of players in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition online. Two matches were choppy with the latency meter switching between 1 and 5 bars throughout the battle. Another fight was smooth even though the latency rating was only 2 bars. Perhaps, that connection was "better" since it stayed 2 bars for the fight’s duration. Consider these early impressions since the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition community is rather small. Getting into a scuffle can take up to five minutes.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition has all of the DLC and the pre-order bonus characters unlocked. Bonus stages like Snoop Lion’s ring are available in Wii U Edition too. Namco Bandai also made a bunch of Nintendo crossover costumes for the game. These are preset, so you can’t dress Jun up like Mario.

    That’s awesome to hear.

  • XypherCode

    Good news :)
Can’t wait to pick up my copy.

  • what? Lili has no Zero Suit |:

  • anthony apduhan

What?! No Kirby Costume? No Pokemon/Pokemon Trainer costume? T-T

  • British_Otaku

Not everyone has the costume that I was hoping for (Captain Paul Phoenix), but it worked out pretty well.

Tekken Ball, Mushroom Battle, no online pass and some bonus costumes.
Looks like the most desirable version short of how few people will be online in comparison to other systems.

not the 1st game i would have picked up on wii u(well don’t really plan on buying any games til MH3), still could be some good fun, the controls might be a bit iffy on that wii u pad though

btw i cringe every time i read “snoop lion”

Well, there are options available like:

      1) Classic Controller/Pro
      2) PS2->Wiimote converter (Mayflash).  I’m using this with my PS2 arcade stick for the true Tekken experience. :)

      • DKL

Cool, so you can use an HRAP on the thing… Hmm…

  • KingRuff

Why is there no Captain Falcon outfit for Paul? I thought that would be a guarantee.

  • Göran Isacson

Eddie as Mario and Christie as Peach. I know who I’m dressing up as what! Also, Kazuya as Link and Jun as Zelda? Someone’s into kinky cosplay, me thinks…

Still laughing at Sheik being available to both men and women.

    • that because in OoT Sheik was known to be a man but afterward in terms of Brawl she a female.

  • I’m guessing TTT2 suffered the same fate as DOA5 with its online pass – barely anyone was playing it just one month after release. Companies need to realize you can’t fragment a community with these BS passes unless it’s a game like COD that moves millions of copies in each console and is strictly about the online.

  • eilegz

online passes = NO BUY for me, or if i buy it i wait for the price to be low enough, i wont support artificial cripple of a game that i bought, they want it then i will pay less for it

    • Kevin Tan

Good thing TTT2 doesn’t require any on Wii-U :)  Can’t wait to play/lose when my copy arrives.
