Namco Bandai said Macross 30: The Voice that Connects the Galaxy is a flight action RPG and after seeing how the game flows, I agree. It’s pretty much a role playing game with Variable Fighters.
Main quests in Macross 30 start on the bridge where you talk with different characters. These event scenes will be fully voiced. Players can confirm what quest they want to take on and save their game before starting a mission.
Variable Fighters can be customized in the hangar before…
… you arrive on the field. The field in Macross 30 is an open area players can explore. You can shoot down small fry enemies to raise your level and collect parts. Macross 30 has dungeons to explore and areas with shops. Main story quests usually involve retrieving an item or going to a sortie point for a battle.
Macross 30 has side quests like races around Ouroboros.
There are also shooter style missions where the screen automatically scrolls and you have to shoot down enemies.
Macross 30 has a bunch of mecha from the series like the YF-29 (a first print bonus) and a new VF called YF+20 Kronos designed by Shoji Kawamori.
The story takes place in 2060, one year after the Frontier Fleet defeated Vajra. The galaxy is finally at peace and S.M.S. Sefira pilot Leon Sakaki takes a trip to the planet Ouroboros. Macross 30 comes out on February 28 for PlayStation 3.
