New Square Enix Teaser Site Is Probably For "Star Galaxy"

By Spencer . December 6, 2012 . 11:00pm

imageSquare Enix opened up a new teaser site for a so far unannounced game which will be revealed in five days. The site has a couple of clues like "liftoff" in the URL, a planet, and text that says "star."

We’re pretty sure the teaser site is for Star Galaxy since Siliconera discovered a trademark for Star Galaxy filed by Square Enix in Japan.

Star Ocean revival? Perhaps, but we’re going with Star Ocean social game.

    Whats this game about?

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

    Star Ocean 5 please!!!
For all thing that’s holy don’t be social or mobile or phone or any of their family.

    • landlock

Didn’t they say that Star Ocean 4 was the final one in the series?

      Hopefully a new IP.

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I thought they debunked that rumour?

  • ShindoW

Please, PLEASE be non-mobile Star Ocean related!!!

    • midgard229

good save! needs to be non mobil and NON mmo.

i just want a new tri-ace game…..they havent made anything in sooo long. I would have loved an HD valkyrie Profile game but sadly there wasnt :(

      • darkonezero

I would actually be fine with a MMO, as long as it is of a good quality.

      • Morricane

        Urgh. Actually that’s kinda a SO3 spoiler. Don’t mind me…~_~

    • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

      I’d love another Star Ocean.

  • Romangelo

Star Ocean 5…. but please make it better than SO4 which bored me to death.

    • Kai2591

Loved the battles, but I hated the story. Although even the battles get old after sooo many fights; need more interesting mechanics.

    • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Star Ocean 4 was a glorious game, tied for Resonance of Fate and Eternal Sonata as best non Naruto games on the PS3. I loved it, if only it wasnt for the steep requirements for trophies, only thing that holds it back.
Im dying for an SO5 with hopefully Edge Maverick.

      • ShindoW

4 really brought the series back to it’s roots, which I liked. The only game I never finished in the series was 3, because the battle system was so wierd and it was way too much complicated backtracking. I also don’t like how the twist killed the series. I even played through Blue Sphere.

  • http://insanechronos.tumblr.com/ InsaneChronos

    Xenogears 2!

    • almostautumn

Some dreams are too sadly much too big…

      • http://insanechronos.tumblr.com/ InsaneChronos

        I know. It’s not a dream, it’s joke.

  • idofgrahf

Star ocean five without a self righteous and egotistical brat as a main character and with a better storyline would be nice. That or a new ip (unlikely) that’s like rouge galaxy with different planets to explore and space travel.

    • Kai2591

      I agree completely.
Serious lack of single-player space sci-fi JRPGs nowadays. One thing I dislike about Star Ocean was that they seemed to show promise of a lot of space exploration and adventure, but in actuality you only go to very few planets…

      • Elvick

That disappointed me when I first played the series. I played Til the End of Time first, and it’s twist really killed the series for me in terms of story.

:/ And I didn’t like how the game seemed like it would be huge, with tons of environments and worlds, but it wasn’t.

Good gameplay, which is why I bought Last Hope despite knowing that one girl would drive me crazy.

        • Kai2591

Your second paragraph is exactly my point :)

      • http://www.thejaystack.com/ Jon Stachewicz

The Last Hope was actually the best one in the series in terms of exploring a bunch of different planets and really nailing the sci-fi aspects. I feel like the International re-release fixed a lot of the issues as far as the voice acting (it’s charming in Japanese and horrifying in English, to be fair. Similar to the Tales games, really), and presentation, and once you get over the goofy character models what you’re left with is a great battle system and a pretty decent narrative to go along with it. Edge had his problems but I liked how he was more of a leader to the party than Ratix, Claude or Fayt were in any of their own games.

        • puchinri

This. I really enjoyed TLH and I feel that it has a great battle system. While I feel like their textures got overdone in places as well, it’s still a lot of fun to run around on the map, and admire the world(s)/setting.

I also could tolerate the characters way earlier and longer than I could SO3 (which I dropped pretty early in). I’m only going to be just starting SO1+2 soon, but they look good and I’ll probably enjoy them more than 4, but I think 4 was pretty well-handled overall.

          • M’iau M’iaut

SO1 is fun even if it has its moments of extreme Star Trekky preachiness. SO2 pretty much has a permanent place in my all time Top 5 and well has a male lead with basically the same amount of respect for the Prime Directive as James T. Kirk.

“Ooooh a shiny pulsing crystal radiating strange immense power. Wonder what happens if I TOUCH IT.”
            – Claude Kenny

          • puchinri

Hah, I do not mind that! I love ST:TOS, and its preachiness was offset by how much ham (and silliness) there was, so if SO1 is kind of similar in that regard, that will work out for the better for me~. That sounds very encouraging as well! I’m really eager to give them a try now.

Also, thank you for that. x’D

          • M’iau M’iaut

That pretty much nails where 1 goes. Given some of the post-SO3 retcon that goes on and a localization that has significant changes, the PSP SO2 is not the PS1 version. That one belongs to the era of the ‘grab some dudes off the street’ and ‘Joe’s the only one with a girlfriend — have him ask her to help’ voice over work and was one of the few titles released by Enix of America.

          • puchinri

Well then, I am quite a bit more interested in playing~. That’s interesting though. Kind of scary, but I’ll keep that in mind while playing.

          • Kai2591

Yes the battle system in TLH was extremely addictive :) I really wish such battle system gets to be used in other games. But even that gets tiring after a million battles.. But I think it has potential to be even better if they added some more interesting mechanics to make the fun last even longer.

TLH has nice graphics but they look a bit too…artificial. Character models seemed like dolls (creepy, they say). But the thing I dislike most though, is TLH’s story: Simply. Bad.
I don’t mind too much about the characters, but the male lead’s infamous emo moments were really irritating.

          • puchinri

Indeed. And I do admit to getting tired of it usually. If I wasn’t trying to play with the grid a lot or specifically grinding, I sometimes would get exhausted of the battles.

Oh, man. The textures were kind of ridiculous, and the character models got somewhat Barbie looking. I think it’s pretty and shiny and all, but they are a bit funky. It’s like they overdid it in their attempt to go for realistic and anime.

            I’m still fairly early in, so Edge hasn’t got to that horrible point yet, but I admit, having watched a playthru of that part after hearing about it, I’m glad that Reimi got to shine more. x’D;

          • Kai2591

‘Overdid’ is the right word haha.

Oh I had the impression you already finished TLH. Well, Reimi’s character is alright, no problem with her imo. Lovely ponytail~ and her armored skirt is an interesting concept I think haha.

          • puchinri

            Haha, yeah.

Not quite yet. I did watch some playthru of that obnoxious part just to understand what everyone meant, but I haven’t quite exactly played to that part yet. And yes, I quite like her ponytail and am fascinated by her armored skirt, heh.

      • puchinri

Agreed. It’s rare to see sci-fi or futuristic elements in a game. It’s why I hoped for more in Earth Seeker (and really wish ArtePiazza has another chance to do a futuristic life-sim, RPG again).

    • Sir Unimaginative

I’ll take another Star Ocean if, yes, what you said, and also it isn’t ALL OF THE CREEPY.

  • Godmars

Though I’d rather it be otherwise, my money’s on something that’s either going to be JP-only or a non-PS3/360 project.

  • kroufonz

    TRI-ACE JRPG and PS3 pls!

    • puchinri

Can I get PS3 and Wii U? Just for the sake of having options~?

      • http://jaydesummers.wordpress.com/ Jay

Add XBox 360 into that equation and I’ll be happier than a pig in shit.

        • puchinri

I was thinking that it wouldn’t hurt to do~.

  • Ferofax

    Please be a full-fledged 4X game!

…lol, the chances of Squeenix doing one would be astronomically minute. But the title reminded me of old school 4X space games, and I do love the genre something fierce.

  • Peeka Chu

Its probably an iOS game, you guys are getting way too excited.

  • Jungo

I’m a pretty huge fan of most of the things that Square-Enix has been doing recently, so I’m probably going to be happy with whatever happens. I doubt it’s a new Star Ocean game because it feels like wishful thinking, but it’s probably good whatever it is.

  • AokiShizuku

    Social game

These things will drive me insane.

Also, just how popular are social games in Japan? I’m guessing companies make quite a bit of profit from it seeing as how they’re making so much.

    • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

Lower production costs + popularity (usually achieved by distributing your games for free or for a really low/symbolic price) = Easy profit.

  • Kai2591

It’d be nice to have a new, full-on console space sci-fi JRPG. I miss that kind of JRPG genre..

  • Zakai

Pretty sure it’s again a social mobile game… I think we definitely lost some great jrpg ip…

  • http://the-critical-hit.tumblr.com/ Musashi

    OH! A new rpg for iOS… T_T

  • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

“we’re going with Star Ocean social game”

Yuuup. I’m holding on to this thought before getting my hopes up again.

  • eilegz

im really hopeful this will be a new VITA game :D and not social or ios crap…

a new star ocean or whatever they call it would be a nice, vita needs more jrpg

  • KiTA

How about a new SciFi IP by the Dragon Quest team. That would be interesting…

  • amagidyne

That does sound like a social/phone game. I get that they’re cheap and profitable and maybe evil, but why make teaser sites for them? That’s kind of sick.

  • Tianyu Wei

Please … if it’s SO series, let it be like SO 3 and not SO 4 :o

  • http://www.facebook.com/magius.necros Magius Necros

This better not be an iOS title but who am I kidding anymore…

  • LightZero

Well I guess it’s either SO5 or a new social game.

  • Dolly

i will legitimately sob all of my feels if yet another countdown hype that looks like a sequel to a loved franchise turns out to be another mobile game. pleaaaase be another star ocean game and take all the good in SO games and realize its potential. Even if you didn’t sympathize with the characters and found them annoying. There was still a lot of depth to combat, item collection/synthesize and concept of space exploration and your own little space ship to roll around in. Space rpgs need more love. Given all the space animes its strange this genre doesnt get more love (instead its always space shooters like ZOE which isn’t a bad thing don’t get me wrong). brb sobbing and holding onto the “last hope” that this isn’t mobile/mmo.

  • FFmax

Oh boy another social game. Seriously I hope this is on a console or handheld. The game market is too saturated with all these social games.

  • Hinataharem

Looks like we’ll be getting more social games til the end of time.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Trancepticon Louis Sedeno III

My giggle turned into full “lol.” Nice one.

  • ragingmerifes

Rogue Galaxy sequel? No… who owns Rogue Galaxy? Level-5 made it, I know, but the producer: who’s it?

    • kroufonz

      sony own rogue gakaxy IP

  • Solomon_Kano

Let’s see where this goes. It seems more often that console and portable games just get outed by Famitsu and Dengeki so I’m not going to get my hopes up for this, but there’s always the potential for a surprise.

  • Kawashima

As long as the main character doesnt want me to rage quit in the middle of the story at the longest part of the game and none of the characters are annoying. (Star Ocean 4), I woundnt mind another Star Ocean. Just make Welch playable in this one.

    • puchinri

Hehe, opposite for me (with 3 being that entry), but I guess annoying mains are something they need to work on? We should get a Plucky Girl for the next lead. . .

Isn’t Welch playable in two titles now? I do hope she’s playable again~.

      • Kawashima

Yeah Welsh was playable in the remakes of the first 2. I should have clarified that i wanted the Star Ocean 4 version of Welsh playable.

        • puchinri

Ahh~. Alrighty. Yeah, playable SO4 Welsh would have been awesome.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    New Star Ocean? Plizzzz SE?T_T

  • Settsuo

If it’s a social game have every VA for Welsh voice every word in the title then i’d buy it.

  • http://jaydesummers.wordpress.com/ Jay

No thank you to Star Ocean social games.

  • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

So is this going to be a new Star Ocean game.

  • fayt255

I what ever it is that this is something tri-Ace related and has something to do with that tech demo they showed which really hinted at Star Ocean even though they said it was unrelated. If was unrelated to the series they could have had figures from their other games that they made instead of just Fayt and Edge, they could have used VP characters too.
