A Look At Dragon Quest X’s Graphics And Virtual Keyboard On Wii U

By Ishaan . December 19, 2012 . 10:50am

Dragon Quest X on Wii U will feature a couple of enhancements over the Wii version. It’ll have more detailed HD graphics on the Wii U and will also support off-TV play on the Wii U GamePad. Additionally, you’ll be able to use the GamePad as a virtual keyboard in order to chat with other players. Here’s a look at the virtual keyboard layout:

Both Wii and Wii U users will get to play Dragon Quest X together. Players will be able to transfer their characters from one version to the other, and if you someone already owns the game on the Wii, Square Enix are offering a discount on the Wii U version.

Here are a few more screenshots of the Wii U version:

Really hoping the Wii U version gets released overseas.

2013 looks promising as far as MMO releases go. Maybe even better than 2012, so hopefully it will… Eventually…

I really do hope the WiiU becomes the JRPG console, i’ll buy it if it does.

        • Pockystix

y’know, considering the dev teams of Japan kept their budgets pretty low, and if we’re lucky; developing for the WiiU will be easier and less expensive than for the PS4 or Xboxsumfin. And maybe, just maybe, we could have an HD PS2-type era on the WiiU.

          . . . But that’s only a dream, as of yet.

          • Suicunesol

Or maybe they’ll just stick to PS3, like handheld developers stuck to the PSP.

  • Nasser Al-Ojayan

    Thats it just a keyboard?

I was hoping that i could use it as a way to check my inventory and map (not the mini map).

  • ragingmerifes

Looks really awesome, and this will be the Nintendo’s World of Warcraft, but… they should show the whole keyboard in the gamepad, and the letters you’re typing on the TV. More space for fingers.

    • Suicunesol

Then you would run into the problem of having to look back and forth at the controller and big screen every time you type.

This idea is definitely what the gamepad was made for, but the pad isn’t big enough to make typing feel natural.

      • ragingmerifes

But no one types on the keyboard and looks at the screen. OK. Maybe some people.
But I agree. The gamepad is too small for typing.

  • Göran Isacson

Gamepad as a keyboard… that is quite a nifty idea. Wonder if this means there will be no inventory management with the gamepad though, that always seemed like a good direction to take it in to me.

  • I expected DQX on Wii U to have been developed with HD assets but I guess I was wrong.

  • Crevox

What the heck? That map screen is Gridania/FFXIV recycled so hard
