Capcom Lower Earnings Forecast Due To Monster Hunter 4 And Resident Evil 6

By Ishaan . December 19, 2012 . 9:22am

Capcom have announced a revision to their earnings forecast for the ongoing fiscal year. They’ve lowered their net income forecast by 33.7% and their operating income forecast by 36.7%.

There are two reasons for the revision. The first is the delay of Monster Hunter 4, which was initially slated for a March release but has been postponed to the summer in order to give Capcom time to improve the game further.

The other reason is Resident Evil 6. Sales of Resident Evil 6 were initially strong, but subsequently weakened, Capcom report. As a result, sales of the game are “certain to fall short of the plan”.

As previously reported, Capcom’s initial sales forecast for Resident Evil 6 was 7 million copies by the end of March 2013. Capcom later lowered this number to 6 million. They haven’t announced another new forecast in light of their earnings revision yet.

In their most recent earnings Q&A a couple of months ago, Capcom stated that they felt Resident Evil 6 had been “successful to a degree,” in light of the game’s poor critical reception. They added that they were confident the game would continue to sell strongly, regardless, but that they would take user feedback into account for the future.

Since its release, Capcom have been updating Resident Evil 6 with free update patches that make changes to the game. The first patch unlocked Ada Wong’s campaign from the start, gave her an optional co-op partner, and improved the game’s camera options. The next patch will add further improvements.

Good they are trying to polish MH4 an RE6 was ok but word of mouth travels fast

  • Go2hell66

Thats cuz they want to sell 7million copies of RE6, wth were they smoking, even i could have told them that is never gonna happen

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Altin-Bujupaj/1157167838 Altin Bujupaj

Anyone with a working brain could tell that this goal is impossible.

      But that’s Capcom for you.

  • Kuro Kairi

Normally when a game is perceived as bad, it quickly drops its value and floods the used game market, which is what I think happened here, the only way to assure the game sells well all-throughout is to make a great game not only sell its name.
I’m glad that they are trying to improve it, but they have been trying to see what people want since re5 and to me re6 is even worse, mostly the story is just junk imo, and the game is supposed to be a survival horror but doesn’t show a sliver of that face.

Its like they just don’t know how to do it even though it doesn’t seem so hard for them, maybe its management problem, I know capcom has some particularly bad business practices and managements. The whole game seems like a mess.

    • eilegz

“the game is supposed to be a survival horror”

Re moved away from true survival horror since re4… and this game its the expansion and an improvement over that vision

re6 mercenaries is off the hinges – thank god i stopped listening to so-called game critics decades ago.

    • http://www.twitch.tv/jpnags Jason Naglic

That was what I was most interested in, because I always LOVED mercenaries. Just waiting to pick up the game for cheaper.

    • eilegz

the only cons its that it locked behind “dlc” most of the maps between shop preorders and now game modes made to be dlc =/

    • konsama

Agreed, i think more than half my play time has gone to mercenaries, i haven’t even finished all campaigns yet.

  • badmoogle

So trying to copy every popular trend and loosing your identity while doing so doesn’t always work out huh? Too bad Capcom learned this very late.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

Capcom, you might as well start lowering the forecasts for DmC while you’re at it. What was it, two million they were expecting to sell?

I should also note I’m someone who likes RE6, except for Chris’ campaign, which is a horrible continuation of the boring RE5 gameplay.

    • eilegz

seriously the whole game its made for re4 and re5 fans, i cant understand why the hateful reviews, the biased critics and some entitlement opinions from some fans of the older tank mobility re.

But then now everyone thinks that this its worse, broken, unplayable which its not true, sadly this its the impression that reviewvers give and everyone follow.

      • Duo Maxwell

But it’s true, because there are better games out there. Imagine how much the game will sell if it doesn’t have the name Residents Evil?

  • eilegz

as much as i like and enjoyed re6 that high number forecast its out of place, the industry in general need to be more realistic…. everyone wants to be cod in sales, revenue and investment but thats not right and should not be the example of how the industry to move….

Its sad to see a AAA get the shit but a yearlly rehash taking over i hope this trend does not keep on unless we want the industry go in a path of self destruction; Next gen its comming and i seriously doubt that its going to be better for this companies

Japanese developers in general have yet lagged behind unless you are platinum or kojima…. The ps2 era its over time to step the game up…

    • AyaisMUsikWhore

I think that’s what they’ve been trying to do but they are doing it so bad. If they kept the mentality like the PS2 era and mixed it with today, then RE wouldn’t have been what it was. It’s just so unfortunate though

  • AyaisMUsikWhore

I feel bad for Capcom. I use to really like them but I started to feel they lost their way. After the Paid dlc on disk thing… I was just like no. What they did to the RE franchise and everything… I don’t know. I feel like they are trying so hard to not be Japanese. Kind of like Square Enix. I don’t know what’s going on but I hope this gets sorted out

  • Alfy Masamune

    …………………………..i enjoyed RE6. *shrugs*

  • http://twitter.com/Nates4Christ Nate

I hope lost planet 3 does well for them. That’s one of the only series they make I enjoy. Back in the day though they made some awesome movie tie in games. Aladin for snes, now that was a good game. Haaaarrrrrd too.

  • Minos

Now all we need is that Zobie U sells desent…

  • SirRichard

No-one figured that matching the lifetime sales of the previous game in a few months riddled with heavy competition would be unfeasible? It came in the wake of FIFA, its headstart was cut short by Dishonoured and XCOM and then usual trio of Assassin’s Creed, Black Ops II and Halo piled on, to say nothing of the Wii U launch. 6 million sales simply wasn’t happening, Resident Evil doesn’t command the brand power for that.

Q1 2013 is packed with competitors large and small, and Q2 will potentially open with the all-killing Grand Theft Auto V. Really feeling sorry for them now, hopefully they’ll know to keep their expectations in check and not let dev costs get ahead of them.

  • AzuNo17

Now’s about time to release that definitive version and drop RE6 to $19.99. That game was the definition of a rental flick.

    • http://www.twitch.tv/jpnags Jason Naglic

I agree but it’s probably still too early.

  • http://twitter.com/SameerMonier Sameer Monier

Just re-release Resident Evil Remake for the PS3/X360/PC with HD treatment and see how it does.

    • badmoogle

You mean the same crappy HD treatment RE4 and CV received? No thanks. The remake still looks exceptionally good.

      • http://twitter.com/SameerMonier Sameer Monier

didn’t get these, I still have the original copies for PS2, personally I want the remake on PS3 cause I never had the chance to play it, and alot of people say it is the best RE game ever.

    • eilegz

no thanks no more tank mobility re…

      • http://twitter.com/SameerMonier Sameer Monier

no one is forcing you to buy it, this is for us, people who want the old experience, the old survival horror feeling, and for those who missed Remake cause it was exclusive.

Also for RE7 it doesn’t matter if it was Tank or Free mobility, the tank isn’t the thing that made RE survival horror, there were tons of other reasons.

  • Göran Isacson

Part of me wants to roll my eyes and be all Haughty in Hindsight, but eh- nobody likes the guy who goes that route. So instead I shall ask if people who downloaded the patch thought it improved the camera, and how much people think that the game has sold? I think I heard the 4 million number thrown around in a previous article, but I could be wrong.

  • Nitraion

hmm just give me outbreak series again Re-MAster or whatever with online play… *_*
I just give an advice….If you not confident with your original theme your game is just like a rip-off be creative but not forget your original theme…
