Crimson Dragon Video From “Leaked” Xbox 360 Demo

By Ishaan . January 2, 2013 . 11:00am

Remember Crimson Dragon, the Kinect-exclusive Xbox Live Arcade game developed by members of the original Panzer Dragoon team at Sega? That was supposed to be released earlier this year, but never ended up coming out.

Recently, however Microsoft mistakenly uploaded a demo of the game to Xbox Live Arcade, which they subsequently pulled. By the time they’d done this, though, a few people had already gotten their hands on the demo, and you can now find video playthroughs of it on YouTube. One of these is embedded above.

Crimson Dragon is directed by Yukio Futatsugi, the creator of Panzer Dragoon. Also working on the game are Manabu Kusonoki (art designer on Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II), Saori Kobayashi (composer on Panzer Dragoon Orta), and Tomohiro Kondo (director on Panzer Dragoon II).

Unfortunately, Crimson Dragon still doesn’t have a release date.

So it’s pretty much Panzer Dragoon with Child of Eden’s control scheme. Not bad at all.

  • Kinect sucks balls..

  • Cameron Ward

    when is this coming out….

  • Zal_Yagun

Damn. Makes me want dig out my copy of Panzer dragoon orta.

  • Prithivi

I’d reaaaally like to play this game. But with a joypad if possible…

  • TrevHead

such a shame this wont have control pad support, leaning your body to control the dragon is lame

  • You had me at Panzer Dragoon and lost me at Kinect-exclusive.

  • Sergio Briceño

Makes me wish I had Kinect… But then again there aren’t many games that do, so I’ll hold on until more good Kinect games come out.

  • That was supposed to be released earlier this year, but never ended up coming out. Uh checks date. Was it supposed to be out yesterday?

  • Looks pretty fun although I wish you could play it with a regular controller.

  • Pockystix

so we get a kinect game and a cellphone game

oh, the trolling is strong in this one

  • AfroMessiah

Hopefully the delay suggests they are adding pad support as well and not cancelled as I’d rather people with Kinect get to play it atleast.

  • brian

So earlier this year as in January 1st?

  • Crevox

This game looks amazing in every way… too bad it’s kinect/mia :(

  • Göran Isacson

Well… that pretty much looked like the most gorgeous game the Kinect would have ever had, and the most fun. And now I’m torn between clinging on to the hope that it will one day be released, or finishing this post with the tired old ‘”AND WE CAN’T HAVE QUALITY STUFF LIKE THAT NOW CAN WE” line.

Was wondering when this was coming out.. I remember it was on the show floor during TGS too.. Always love the Panzer Dragoon soundtrack, so otherworldly..

I don’t dislike the Kinect control, it was good for Child of Eden. But I’m rather lazy, stretching out my arms for long period of time was a bit tiring, so would be nice to have additional regular controller as well..

  • Elvick

Controls look unnecessarily tiresome. Not really surprised. They should just add controller support and make it multiplatform to reduce the risk of financial failure.

Because there just aren’t enough of these kinds of games, and I’d like for it to do well, but without controller support I can’t see that happen.

    • Armane

Microsoft are funding it, so multiplatform isn’t going to happen. Controller support is something that needs to happen before I’ll even consider buying it.

      • Elvick

        Well that’s a shame.

Hopefully they at least launch with controller support to give it a fighting chance. I know a lot of people who would be interested if it weren’t a Kinect-only game. Myself included.

  • ddh819

i guess tilting your body simulates riding a dragon, but would it be possible to make dragon control work with your other hand? one hand steers dragon, one hand aims shots? i don’t have a kinect so I don’t know if it would work

  • symytry

The forest sequence reminds me very much so of Panzer Zwei, even the enemy types are the same, with the same attacks – not that this is a bad thing however. Any new Panzer games are welcomed, even if they do encompass playing with the worst control setup in history.

The cell phone game also reminds me of Panzer Dragoon Mini (which as complete crap). This looks to be not much better – play it for 5 minutes and end up turning it off out of boredom, they’re just too simple, and for people that know the serious they expect something more diverse and challenging after seeing the evolution of the series in days long passed.
