Tokyo Majin Gakuen Director Working On PS3, Vita And 3DS Games

By Ishaan . January 2, 2013 . 12:00pm

Shuuhou Imai, director of the Tokyo Majin Gakuen series of games, is working on titles for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and smartphones, he reveals in a blog post reported by Hachima Kiko.

These projects are entirely new games, Imai says, that are unrelated to the Tokyo Majin Gakuen series, and will start to see release this year.

What’s Tokyo Majin Gakuen? It’s a series of role-playing games that started out on the PSOne, and follows a group of high school students that battle demons. The series later continued on the Nintendo DS and PSP.

Never played the Tokyo Majin Gakuen series… Don’t really know the guy either.

This is one of those cases where the information is taken in but where I don’t know anything about this… The only thing of note I can say is that this Tokyo Majin Gakuen game reminds me of a similar game on the SNES where you had an overhead view and had the ability to take demons into your group and fuse them in locales on the map in a tun based grid based strategy RPG that was in Japanese only with a title that I think, if memories serves me correctly, was similar to Tokyo Majin Gakuen (It’s been years, so forgive my poor memories here).

I don’t think it was made by Atlus despite the similarities in themes and features, though the gameplay video provided in the other article related to Tokyo Majin Gakuen that you can find here in Siliconera doesn’t seem to indicate it’s the same game as the features provided there make it appear to be a more common SRPG, in the same veins as FFT (which isn’t a bad thing, just that it’s quite different from the SRPG I played back on the SNES).

Still… Curious to find out exactly what sort of project will be made. Plus, can’t say no to more Vita games.

You mean Majin Tensei, a offshoot of the Shin Megami Tensei games :)

If I remember correctly, the Tokyo Majin Gakuen games did get an anime a couple of years ago. Never played the games though they look interesting.

Thanks. Totally forgot the name of that game.

Didn’t know this thing had an anime series… Actually I don’t know this thing at all outside of the Youtube video that was linked in the other Tokyo Majin Gakuen article that’s on Siliconera.

Wait, that’s where the anime series came from? I remember watching both seasons a few years ago. Had no clue it began from a game series…

Curious here. Care to share some of your experiences with the game? Opinion, details about the gameplay and other such notes so to help us people who have no idea what this game is like in order to help see if it sparks some interest?

“It’s a series of role-playing games that started out on the PSOne, and follows a group of high school students that battle demons.”

I wonder why that sounds so familiar. I must be imagining things…

    • And Atlus actually published Tokyo Mono Hara Shi in Japan, too. :)

    • The game was made by atlus so they had their right lol, anyway the game is seriously different from persona games, really, nothing like them, overlooking it like that, yeah, seems close, but not quite, i played psp ver. and it was a interesting 1st person dungeon crawler. And they even have persona reference in the psp game lol

Atlus should publish it. They have been on a localizing craze lately.

  • I watched the anime years ago and loved it. I wish the games would’ve come out here and as someone mentioned, maybe Atlus could publish them here :D

  • I wish another season of the anime would come out soon. I loved Tokyo Majin =)
