Pokémon X And Pokémon Y Coming To 3DS Worldwide In October

Nintendo announced a new set of Pokémon games for Nintendo 3DS during Pokémon Direct. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released worldwide in October 2013. That’s right no waiting for a localization!

This Pokémon title has 3D graphics and features three new starter Pokémon: Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Take a look at the debut trailer for it below, and the announcement here.

I want all three starters! I’m loving the legendaries; the second one looked like the creature from Princess Mononoke. It seems Ash WON’T be waking up from his coma any time soon then.

EDIT: I’m getting both versions! I’m definitely starting with the grass on one of the games.

      well, at least from reading the other comments, sounds like it is quite popular. Among other reasons, Fennekin looks cute, its a fire-type, its a fox, and better-looking compared to the other two (which looks too cartoonish). I personally like foxes and fire-types.

Definitely going to roll with the Grass or the Water starter, personally, and damn, wasn’t expecting it to arrive this year at all. Fully 3D, too, even if it plays the same (and I imagine it will) it definitely won’t feel the same for a while.

I seriously am not too sure if want… in any case, X and Y as version names sounds weird. Perhaps I’m too used to rare metals/stones naming themes.

Not going to comment on the look of the Pokemon, since I respect each generation’s design choices, so I’ll just say that the designs look more in-line with the Black/White looks. I assume that the unnamed Pokemon is the grass-type starter?

3D environments are going to need some getting used to, but it looks like we’ll be moving in straight lines as usual. Most likely the curved paths will work like in B/W and B/W 2, I think.

Wonder what the name for the continent is?

EDIT: After watching the trailer with the voice reading out the name of the games, I can’t help but expect a ‘Pokemon Y’ pun sooner or later. >.>

These new games do look amazing from the small bits we’ve seen. Old pokemon feature too which is always good. I’ll definitely be going with, Fennekin for the starter :D

I still think it’s too early to jump into Gen VI but I don’t mind after seeing the trailer.

  I’ll take the brunt of whatever blast this may give but this does not, in any way, ‘shut us up’ about our thoughts on Gen VI being too early or wanting an RSE remake. I don’t think anyone here is saddened that Gen VI is a thing but I don’t believe you really have a right to tell us that we have to shut up about our opinions on the matter. For some, myself included, this does feel a bit rushed. Hopefully this will be a good thing in the long run but, again, it’s not necessary to stab out people for their thoughts on this. It’s a legitimate thought and concern.

Finally pokemon is in 3D, the graphic aren’t really goods, but that still a big step forward compared to how it have been until now and the graphic might be better once it’s released on the 3DS.
And i’m not surprised at all this is a new generation, like i said often already until now every new entries of pokemon games from the main series on a new handhelds always have been a new generation, it would have been weird if this time it was different.
And damn Fennekin is cute… i really rarely use that word, but i don’t think there’s any better word to describe that pokemon and i wouldn’t be surprised if the last evolution of Fennekin was a Nine tails fox or something like that.
Edit: completely forgot about Ninetails, so i guess last evolution of Fennekin can’t be another Ninetails. now i really wonder what the last evolution will be.

  I’m sure the game will look gorgeous on the 3DS screen itself hands-on. I watched it low-res and for me the graphics are perfect and the style of character modeling is just right for a Pokemon game. No need for a ‘realistic’ look for the characters. And yeah that Fennekin is freakin’ cute. My sister almost hugged my monitor. :P

I gotta say the trailer just moved so quickly that I couldn’t process it all.

I am excited, but I recognize that X and Y is a bit of a weird name decision.

Also, Chespin and Fennekin seem to borrow heavily from Buneary and Zorua. While I’m sure their final forms will seem very different, I can’t help but think that Creatures could have done a little bit better. It turns out that Froakie, the ugliest one, is the one that looks the most unique.

I haven’t touched a Pokemon game since Yellow. I guess that’s about to change and this is making me want to play Black & White now.

It’s shaping up to be a great year for the 3DS. Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion, Castlevania, Soul Hackers and the possibility of a Bravely Default announcement, and now a new Pokemon game. I might just upgrade to a 3DS XL this year.

I like the Legendaries, but personally I would have rather they waited to go 3D. Since the hardware isn’t really pushing it that well in my opinion. They could have improved 2D more and I’d have been happier.

Oh well. Didn’t watch the direct about it, but the trailer itself is up already.

Hopefully they ditch HMs all together, because I grow tired of them.

    As it stands now, Sony and the PSV have little chance to catch up. I have a PSV and I can tell you that the few games I’m looking forward to this year have all been announced last year. So, this year as a whole, has still nothing announced for the PSV whereas Nintendo just dropped the bomb with a killer hit. That’s what I meant with a death sentence, because right now, Sony still lacks that a-must have title in Japan and Nintendo not only has some but also has a hype machine on the way~.

Oh my, that is a surprise ^^ I am happy with it being worldwide too, it means everyone can enjoy the game at the same time rather than one having to wait months while another plays it before.

I also like the announcement timing, one does not have to wait too long. Recently, I noticed that announcement timing has been closer to release for some games, I really like that ^^ the Nintendo Direct system is nice in that way.

  I think it’s better if you play B&W. It provides a little better introduction to the new world and its Pokemon. Also, BW2 continues the story introduced in BW. So it’s better to start with BW… and if you like it, play BW2.

The designs I really liked were the character designs though, it seems that they not only want to make a worldwide release, they want worldwide appeal too. They don’t look like your typical anime boy/girl waiting to be raped.

X and Y? What? Did they run out of names of colours, precious metals and gemstones already? I’m preety sure there was no Pokémon Beige….I mean, ok, that’s not exactly a cool name, but X and Y is so painfully generic. Plus, it makes it so obvious what the third version will be called (Z).

Anyway, these games could be cool, but I hope they will consider dropping routes and instead feature an open world. I feel this would be a significant improvement to the whole experience.

Also, it seems to be still using the grid navigation or whatever you call it. I wish they would stop with that already. Now would have been perfect to introduce full 3D movement. It would make the game feel less clunky and it would allow for the world to look more realistic and not so boxy and squared. I doubt it judging from the trailer, but character customization still isn’t a thing?

I gotta say, at least the new Legendary pokemon look pretty cool. Much better than B/W and B2/W2′s legendaries.

    You can tell just by watching the trailer and by the way everything in the game looks. Squared. The sharp 90 degree angle turn is a giveaway. Diagonal movement would be nice but nowhere near as good as full 3D movement.

    digimon had many variation of games (even the some of the games’ stories are linked to the anime, see wonderswan games) and it’s harder to beat the game, well some of the games are not good enough, though.. pokemon games (especially the main series) are pretty easy to beat, so it’s reasonable that they got higher rating, bcos ppl don’t like play hard games..
    that proves when Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series which had better in all aspects had always got quite bad rating meanwhile pokemon B/W got a perfect 10 on IGN.. just WTH..
    
    also that DMW 1 and re:digitize one, it’s the most unique part of digimon game, not all RPG games have gameplay like that, even Monster Rancher / Monster Farm’s gameplay was very different comparing to digimon v-pet based RPG..
    one more, pokemon don’t have Dramatic RPG genre, which is a half VN and pokemon don’t have their own fighting games (super smash bros isn’t pokemon game however)

  I’m pretty sure 2D sprites had their own share of jagged edges; that didn’t make each sprite less descriptive of what they’re supposed to show.
  
  And don’t forget that 3DS isn’t a high-spec platform. Pushing the graphics far higher than reasonable limits would make other aspects of the game suffer, like low framerates and longer data loading times. From what’s shown here, the models are plenty descriptive already, so if being a little low-res is what it takes to keep the game stable, I’d consider that a smart choice.

Fennekin looks so cute! My favorite design of the starters.

The 3D graphics look really promising and fun. It’d be interesting to explore whatever region its set in (Kind of looks French to me…).

On the downside, even though I’m a huge Pokemon fan, the designs are getting a bit unappealing to me. When I first saw Chespin, it looked like an alien…and I didn’t realize it was Pokemon (and the X and Y >.<).

…I'll still be buying it as soon as it hits stores though (￣^￣)ゞ

GUH! I was going to try and give up Pokemon so my money could go to other games, but I set myself up. And I’m too excited to turn back.

All of the starters are adorable and look awesome, but I think I’m favoring Fennekin and Froakie, especially Froakie.

Haven’t used a fire type since Torchic, so this is good. It’s the best looking one, imo, but I hope they don’t MESS UP THE EVOs, LOL.

While straight out piracy isn’t available, how well can people break open 3DS game cart data so far?
Makes me wonder if we will actually go into the game relatively blind instead of already knowing so much ahead of time. I mean we may actually be surprised at the pokemon that are released through events!

FANTASTIC NEWS! :D Not unexpected either, after playing Black/White version 2 I knew they had to have had to have had a team behind the scenes working on a 3DS game, now whether it was Gen 6 or a remake I wasn’t quite sure (although I was leaning more towards Gen 6), but Black/White 2, as awesome as they were, were probably made with a smaller team while the bigger heads had been busy coming up with new pokemon for Gen 6.

I knew all them 3D models of every Pokemon werent just created for an inflated Pokedex app. They’re being put to practical use here in this new game. I freking cant wait! Now, to see which Pokemon are on which cover to see which entry Ill pick. Though I like the sound of Pokemon X more, Im going with Y if Fennekin’s on its cover, as that thing looks totally cutesome!

I was wondering what they were going to do now that they’ve used so many gems and colours. Seems logical that they would use such popularly used alphabet letters eventually.

While in other franchises, the use of “x” and “z” usually seems edgy. Or rather, an attempt to be edgy. As with many letters at the beginning or end of the alphabet. Particularly ‘x’ and ‘z’. But with Pokemon, it seems more like a clear reference to biological sex and Pokemon breeding. Which is actually a pretty good idea.

I’ve been waiting for a very 3D Pokemon game outside of the console spinoffs, for a long time. Black and White being the most 3D main series title so far. One of the things I like about the footage from this video, is how actually 3D this game looks. The battles look full 3D as does everything in the sort of ‘mini-trailer’. The part where it said “a wild Pikachu appears” looked like something out of Dragon Quest VIII or IX. And the walking around didn’t look any less 3D than Tales of the Abyss, another RPG for the 3DS.

I can’t be the only one who got Dragon Quest vibes from “A Wild Pikachu appears”. Anyway, it looks really exciting and great.

Don’t really care for the starters but I do like the legendaries. (Assuming they are).
So far I really like the fact the main game out of the series is 3D so that’s a start.
Also the name doesn’t bother me much I mean it makes sense. The game is for the 3DS so they are linking the the titles to what 3D planes consist of (X,Y and Z axis).
All I want is some character customization for once.

And you’re one of the many reasons we don’t see so many good games localized, because it’s just easier to pirate and bankrupt a company or in cases like Phantasy Star Portable 2′s US release for the PSP, the amount of times it was pirated horribly overshadowed it’s sales.
Do us all a favor and get out of here and go buy a 3DS, or never play the game. Either way don’t gladly post about how you’re going to pirate a game that’s not even out yet.

Is it now? A 3DS XL is 199 € over here.. a PS Vita costs the same and got the better hardware, higher resolution and quite a few nice titles. I got a PS Vita about a year ago and the 3DS a couple of days ago – I like both systems but I’m pretty glad I went for the Vita first. Neither systems have lots of games that intrigue me at the moment but that Vita is one damn shiny handheld that I’m expecting to see lots of great stuff on… (and Gravity Rush, P4 Golden, Uncharted, New Little King’s Story and Assassin’s Creed are pretty good titles – also: Virtue’s Last Reward looks so much greater on the Vita than it does on the 3DS. ;>)

that’s pretty harsh, while i share your opinion that there are only 1-2 interesting titles, there are a lot of people with different tastes in games.
Only way it is a bad decision is if he is like some Monster Hunter fans who ended up getting the system just on the assumption of that a game they like might appear.
