Hey I might actually start playing pokemon games again! Looks great.

    • JMaster3000

And fuck yeah, efin roller skates! But i liked the bike more :(
I am buying this right away after its released, BW2 were amazing and i am still playing them.

      • Herok♞

Rollerskates could just be taking place of the running shoes

        • They don’t as you can see in the trailer they still run.

        • Sergio Briceño

Or they could be location specific. Like you can only skate in a skating park or in the streets of a city like you could only read conversations of people passing by in a certain city in BW (don’t remember which).

It adds some value to said locations and also it doesn’t make much sense to skate on grass now, does it?

EDIT: I REALLY think they are location specific now. In the trailer Pikachu is on top of the tower which shows in the same city the roller blades were used. So maybe this is an important city like Celladon and Castelia before it.

  • ragingmerifes

Maybe I will start playing it again… or not.

  • Lazulis

I wasn’t interested in B & W or B2 & W2 that much, but this one looks great! Those 3D battles look awesome! Though I sure hope there’s a way to just skip that entirely cuz pretty as they are, sometimes I just want to destroy that Def Curl/Harden spamming Pokemon…

Man, I hope we can actually customize the Pokemon hero/heroine in future games. Or maybe this one…

    • Detrimont

same, even if they got high rankings i got bored playing both of them

    • I am also intrigued by the customization feature for your trainer. Is it limited only to gears and accessories or you can also edit your character’s looks like hairstyle, eye color etc.

      • Don’t get too excited, there’s no confirmation about customization yet. The trailer just makes it look like it because of that one shot where the male mainchar checks himself out in the mirror. It’s true that he’s not wearing glasses during the shot where he’s swinging on the ropes, but if you look closely you can see that somehow the glasses just glitched out and remain hanging in mid-air where he jumped off…

    • OverlordZetta

I say it every time, but I really hope that they either don’t do that, or at the very least, still have a “default” protagonist so that there’s still… well, a proper protagonist and all.

    • Krisi92

Too bad you weren’t so interested in them, they turned out to be the best Pokémon games ever made in pretty much every aspect.

    • sd28

you have always had the option to run off animations so i expect you to be able to do this in X and Y too

  • TiredOfMyOldUsername

I’m happy that they finally are making pokemon games in 3D, but i hope that graphic isn’t the only thing they have upgraded.

  • The screens look great. I have played every version of Pokemon and these two will be no exception =^_^=

  • Seraph

I was simply blown away when I saw the trailer. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a Pokemon game since the G/S/C days.

  • marclair

I haven’t played Pokemon since Sapphire, but I think I’ll probably be picking this one up. The new look seems really interesting.

  • xzeldax3

I can’t wait for new Pokemon music! I love their soundtracks, especially SS & HG.

  • Perhaps the next step is party battles?
X and Y looks more like a modern RPG now.

Only played Pokemon Red, I suppose the plot stays pretty much similar?

    • Gael Summers

Double battles were introduced in Gen 3 and Triple/Rotation battles in Gen 5
The plot, while following a loose formula, changes every game.

You sir and or madam have a lot to catch up on lol

      • Indeed. We, especially those who play Pokemon games before has a lot to catch up. I asked some friends who still play the current Gens, and its true what they said about that many changes introduced in later games post Gen 2.

I played from R,G, B and Y to Silver. Good ole’ days.

        • Renaldi Saputra

sure, also some of moves have wide ranges in double battle..

      • So Pokemon has gone through improvements already!
Don’t think I’ll play anymore Pokemon though.
I’ll watch videos and read wikis to catch up :P

I’m more of the Digimon person but I left Digimon World Re:Digitize there halfway :P

Somehow RPGs have to have something special to make me go all the way.

        • AkuLord3

If you’re not interested anymore then why read up wikis and watch vids…seems pointless to do if you’re not going get

          • I think he meant he wasnt going to buy them.

HGSS and BW/BW2 had all these nice little interesting perks

  • Göran Isacson

Wish we had artwork of the protagonists, though I can’t say that what I’ve seen so far is very interesting. Nothing like the weird hat-hair of Brendan, Hilda’s shorts, and Gold and May’s ensembles… then again, the only look at the girl protagonist IS very grainy, so it might get better.

  • HassanJamal

Never have i wanted to play a pokemon since ruby/sapphire games. Finally a huge step of evolving the series, pun intended :D

    • Sergio Briceño

It really is a step forward. I’m glad they are trying new things. Pokémon has always played safe and the 3DS seemed like the right (and probably last) time to finally go 3D. I would have really preferred HD sprites, but if 3D is the new direction, then I can’t wait until the next generation of portables and how stunning the models will look then.

  • Nitraion

    Wow pokemon in 3D..O-o

    • AuraGuyChris

      In more ways than one…
      And that is two.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I hope we can customize them :/ the male seem’s generic

    • MrRobbyM

The male mcs have been really generic since gen 4. The females go up and down but have overall been unique looking. I do think the female mc here looks a bit..bland as well. Hoping for customization or at least obtainable in-game costumes.

      • Sergio Briceño

As I said in another post. Maybe together with a worldwide release they wanted worldwide appeal.

In Pokémon there are many extravagant costumes, but the really weird and creepy ones come from cool trainers, mcs, gym leaders and elite four.

Don’t worry, you will still have school swimsuit water gym leaders or a half naked fighting elite four. The mcs this time around look more “believable” and (I quote myself): “They don’t look like your typical anime boy/girl waiting to be raped”, probably because people don’t really dress like that outside of pokémon or Japan.

        • MrRobbyM

Yeah, I know they’re generic looking for a reason, so they gotta be pretty basic. But that dosen’t excuse no customization or at least in-game costumes. That way, at least you have the option.

          • Sergio Briceño

You are right and I also vote for customization, to the point of changing the costumes or even the hairstyle (though the latter has little chance of happening). It even adds to immersion, because really, who would go on a world journey on the same clothes? Even Ash’s mom gave him extra underwear (he doesn’t change his though, or any clothes, unless he is changing continents too).

Some other guy here said he wanted customization from the very beginning as in being able to completely edit your character. I can’t really say I’m fond of that, because like another person said, mcs have always (and need to) felt unique.

          • MrRobbyM

As cool as it would be to have a fully customizable character, I agree. There needs to be some sort trait that stays the same or something. So wardrobe customization, yeah, character customization, probably not.

          • I think the MCs are not that important compared to the pocket monsters themselves. I don’t see the problem of a game where you can design your own character from scratch and just do what every other game does: catch them all and battle battle battle.
Personally, I don’t see the importance of keeping a silent protagonist to its ‘basic design’. If a character contains no original character and represents the player itself, why not just allow full customization?

          • Sergio Briceño

I think the problem with a full brand of customization is the brand itself. Pokémon has trascended the games, it’s an anime now, and a well known one. MCs have cameos in the anime so that could be the first reason.

The second probably is fidelity. The characters in past PM games outside of battles looked pretty much the same (little details in a very tiny body and a big head with just some more details). This time around, you could notice the different details in a custom character (that is if they add customization) but with such poor 3D graphics it wouldn’t make much sense to completely customize your character, unless the options are limited so its more noticeable.

          • Then again, if Nintendo can able to us to create Miis, I think they’re damn capable enough to enable us to give our character a darker skin or a more pleasing hairstyle. A customization system can also have multiple options with the type of face or body shape you want.
Not all MCs have cameos in the anime, I haven’t heard or seen anything of the PCs from BW and BW2. Neither has it ever happened to the heroes from the Gamecube RPGs.
Games like SoulCalibur V (hell, even Fire Emblem Awakening allows for character creation) have an huge character creation system. I don’t say Pokemon games must have one to such an extend, but yeah… at least enable us to put ‘ourselves’ into the game. They should also enable us to make a Trainer name with max. 10 letters instead of 7.

          • Sergio Briceño

I’m not going to argue about the lenght of the MCs name, because I’m there with you.

But again, most of the MC’s have had cameos, the only exceptions being generation 2’s and the male MCs from that point onward. Even If you have heard BW2’s MCs haven’t had a cameo announced yet, I have heard otherwise, it’s a shame I don’t watch the anime but if I recall correctly the female lead is set to appear either in this or the next season, before the BW2 league ends.

And about the character customization, of course I want it, I just don’t want it right now. Believe me, with such ugly models you are better off with as little customization as possible, if any. Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 characters looked better! And even custom ones!

Really, throw in skin colors, hair styles, tattoos, piercings & earrings, body lenght & constitution, eye color… And you got an ugly mess of pixels! Not to mention most of it won’t even make a difference with such a tiny screen and far off camera, unless you watch it in cutscenes. If they do add customization I really hope they just stop at the clothes…

        • raymk

People dress weird all the time and that waiting to be raped thing doesn’t really make sense because people can get raped wearing anything. Also pokemon already had worldwide appeal as it was at first, its like DBZ they both just have worldwide appeal by how successful they are. You did say maybe but I’m just saying pokemon games already had that.

    • Sergio Briceño

It doesn’t look like a metrosexual japanese 12 year old. And that is ok in my book.

    • Godman

Ohh don’t get my hopes up, this is something I’ve been waiting in Pokemon since Gen III. But here’s hoping

    • Elvick

I hope we can customize them *AND* our rooms. :D

The limited customization of my room in S/G/C (or was it just Crystal?) was one of my favorite things.

  • Marik78

I expect Pokemon XX and Pokemon XY as sequels.
Then the final episode: Pokemon XXX – Ash gone wild

    • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

I completely expect Pokemon Z to be the next game, thus disproving the DNA theory. Seriously, that is SO Gen V

      • There’s a chromosome in the japanese logo, I think it’s chromosome/dna related.

        • Steven Higgins

I see absolutely nothing in the logo that even remotely resembles the DNA double-helix. If you’re referring to the “X” and “Y” in the titles they probably refer to the X and Y axis. Other then that, I don’t see anything that suggests a genetics theme.

      • ZW sex-determination system. Some fish use it.

  • I personally don’t like the look of the overworld in 3D. It looks… rough and the art style is bland. It reminds me of the PS1 era of 3D. It should’ve been a lot more smoother and less blocky IMO. I know the screenshots and video are upscaled but even on a 3DS screen it’s probably not going to look great. Shadows look a bit off too.

    Also, what’s up with the boy’s drag-queen-esque glasses? x]

The battles on the other hand look great.

    • Kalis Konig

This. Battles look fantastic. The overworld looks horribly generic and bland. The two console rpgs art style nailed it better IMO.

  • Jonathan Keycross

I still wish for a pokemon game focused on you on an adventure gathering a party of trainers and facing the big bad at the end of the game. Each trainer with its own pokemon team that allows you to discover special combined attacks and solve puzzles.

    • J_Joestar

Thats more of a side-game type thing than a main game.

      • Jonathan Keycross

        You mean like a spin-off? I wouldn`t have a problem with that.

    • Elvick

      That would be interesting.

  • Generation 7 will end up featuring Greek letters in the title. Can’t wait for Pokemon α and Ω to come out !

    • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

      But that would be amazing ;o;

      • Of course it would, may also be the last Pokemon games ever…..until they start using constellations or interstellar terms for when you start catching Pokemon on other planets.

    • Elvick

Then Generation 8 will be emoticons.

      Pokemon :D
      Pokemon D:

      • And everybody would straight up play it too.

    • Renaldi Saputra

and the legend will be Alphamon and Omegamon

      • Those sound like Digimon….someone needs to hop on designing them if they haven’t already.

  • XBalmung

I keep throwing money at the screen, but nothing is happening.

    • raymk

Gotta starting getting with the times man, gotta send it through email son.

  • if the hardware is not strong enough to produce good looking 3D, a 2D style with pixelart are lightyears better looking. this just looks to rough and jagged.

    • Elvick

Just imagine it with 3D on. Yuck.

      Turns beautiful games into jaggy-city.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

The graphics look so terrible it’s not even funny (and I’m not talking about the upscaling), hopefully they are going to enhance the feeling of the World for October’s release~.

  • I was hoping for graphics more along the line of kh3d

  • Ricardo C

Someone on youtube has the impression that you can customize the main character because the hero was looking at himself in the mirror like how you make Sims in the Sims games (they like mirrors), it could easy be a cutscene of some sort but who knows, it would be nice to customize the main character in future games, I actually want that.
I dont really like how the Pokemon look like to be honest, the ones in PokeDex 3D look more detailed but there might be a reason like they made the lower quality ones to dumb down the memory usage of the 3DS game cartridge.

  • Helepythia

So, the title says “Pokémon X And Pokémon Y Screenshots Focus On The Hero And Heroine”…I see a side shot of the female MC but nothing more. Is there something I’m missing?

  • protofox

um..kinda getting a little bored with the trainer wearing a red hat and all blue/black. B and K 1,2 and now these.

  • Aww, looks cool. I’m not planning to buy a 3DS anytime soon. :(

  • Kai2591

Perfect time to get back to playing Pokemon after SO long~
    Since Ruby, that is :)

  • Renaldi Saputra

    well, as always..
    always wearing hat..

  • Insigma

The battle look great but the overworld and the characters….. It’s like what they did with Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.
