Pandora’s Tower Coming To North America In Spring 2013

By Ishaan . January 16, 2013 . 9:35am

Nintendo’s Pandora’s Tower is coming to North America. Xseed will be publishing the game in the U.S., the publisher announced this morning.

As detailed in our previous coverage, Pandora’s Tower is an action game about Aeron and his love interest, Elena. Elena has been cursed and is slowly transforming into a hideous monster. In order to stave off the curse, Aeron needs to hunt down monsters and bring back raw monster meat for her to devour.

Here’s the full story summary from Xseed:

A tale of unfortunate circumstances, Pandora’s Tower opens in the Kingdom of Elyria, where an unassuming singer named Elena succumbs to a wretched curse during a festival performance. Bearing an arcane mark on her back, she starts transforming into a savagemonster, causing the town guards to attempt to kill her in order to prevent it. A young ex-mercenary named Aeron, whose heart has forever been pledged to Elena, whisks her away in the nick of time – and with the help of a mysterious witch named Mavda, he learns what must be done to avert her wretched fate. He must descend into The Scar, a massive chasm tied down by twelve chains connected to a floating island in its center, atop which sit thirteen interconnected towers. There, he must use his sword and a sacred chain to battle his way through each tower and extract the flesh of the boss “masters” that dwell within, which Elena must consume in order to reverse her ongoing transformation. But the clock is ticking! The longer Aeron takes to vanquish each beast, the less human Elena becomes, affecting her character and the game’s final outcome in a profound manner. Time is of the essence…

Pandora’s Tower is developed by One Piece: Unlimited Cruise developer, Ganbarion, in collaboration with Nintendo. The game will reach North America in Spring 2013.

    Way to go Xseed.

  • Zonic505

Props to Xseed for localizing & Operation Rainfall for being great supporters and finally getting the 3rd game on their list brought over.

Now I wonder if we’ll get some cool pre-order bonus or first print edition.

    • AJ

Aren’t all the Operation Rainfall games in North America using the UK English localizations?

Which I actually like. I don’t need everything to be in North American English to be understandable. Unless they record the voiceovers in super cockney…….

      • venomz09

usa non-accent english is way better…..all the british accents get old fast.

        screw noa.

        • ErhmagerdWerds

          Can’t tell if sarcasm….?

  • http://www.twitter.com/christaran Chris Taran

    Good thing I didn’t already import the game! Oh wait…. I did…
Ah well, I’ll still pick up the US version to support someone finally publishing it here.

    • Pyrotek85

Same, I got it recently but I’ll still buy this. I want them to know these games can sell.

    • Equus

I’ll probably do the same as well. I’ve had it for a while, just haven’t played it yet.

      • LabrynianRebel

If you haven’t opened your previous copy I’m sure you could find a buyer somewhere for a shiny brand new Pandora’s Tower.

        • Equus

Unfortunately, I already tore that one open to check out the artbook and the opening. Oh well. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/matthew.wong.1029 Matthew Wong

Operation Rainfall was a complete success. Can’t wait to play this.

    • MrRobbyM

While Earth Seeker wasn’t included in operation rainfall, I was still hoping for a localization. It looked pretty cool.

      • Elvick

A lot of games look cool and aren’t localized… D:

        • revenent hell

          so sadly true

  • http://www.fogalchemist.com/ caleb1993

Amazing, out of all three games that OpRainfall was dealing with, this was the most interesting of the three. I’m so glad to hear that it’s coming out over here and I will definitely be making an exception from everything to pick this one up.

  • venomryu

i have been looking foreword to this game but it did’t come out last year

  • MikelAL93

A bit too late on Nintendo and XSeed’s end, considering that I myself have gotten the Wii U just recently.

Oh well, I might purchase this to play it on my Wii U in Wii mode.

    • puchinri

      Haha, I was about to say, why would having the Wii U stop someone from playing it since they’re still able to? x’);

  • Tom_Phoenix

    Why am I not suprised?

Regardless, congratulations to Operation Rainfall for their success.

    • Farid Belkacemi

Don’t forget to thank Nintendo of Europe for their translation :p

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Awesome! Now I can play this when I eventually get a Wii U. Picking this up day 1 though to support sales =^_^=

  • Ethan_Twain

Well that’s cool. The Wii isn’t a system I had imagined getting much support past the release of the Wii U, but Xseed still does PSP work so I guess this is a realm they’re willing to work in.

Maybe more important than just getting the game though, is the possibility that these two Operation Rainfall games mark the beginning of a healthy relationship between Nintendo and Xseed. If Xseed becomes a favored partner, this could work out well for everyone. Xseed could publish titles in North America that are a little ways off the beaten path that Nintendo isn’t interested in so much. This benefits Xseed because even Nintendo’s scraps have the potential to be huge for them, as we saw when The Last Story became their biggest success ever. Nintendo is benefiting by getting a larger software volume out there for their systems, and the consumers are benefiting because Xseed is localizing fun stuff for us.

    • Zero_Destiny

My thoughts exactly as well, it can hopefully mean that XSeed and Nintendo are at least on good terms with each other. XSeed also published Solatorobo a year earlier on the DS in America, it may of not been a Nintendo owned game or anything but it was localized/published by Nintendo of Europe. They used the same localization but made minor differences, such as removing the letter u in some words to make the localization feel a bit more American. (colour –> color). It’ll be a win-win for both companies really.

  • kylehyde

The circle has been completed and the rainfall persisted to the end. Way to go Xseed and op. rainfall.

  • KingGunblader

This really came out of left-field. Looks like OpRainfall is 3 for 3 now. I’m willing to bet that the success of The Last Story for XSEED was the main reason they decided to do this.

  • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

Well, I know what I’ll be pre-ordering once it’s up on Amazon.

  • DanteJones

    Victory! Thank you, XSEED!

  • Edzo

i heard this game was rather mediocre compared to the other rainfall games

  • DesmaX

Xseed scored big with the Operation Rainfall.

    I’m happy for them

  • Jeremy Barnes

Well, I already beat it, but Xseed has been good to us so I will pick it up.

  • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

WHAT!!! (Sorry for the caps my excitement) I am so happy right now! *Happy Dance*

  • Miralizmis

    Awesome! :D

I had a feeling this would be coming here something soon…

  • http://www.cosmosgaming.com cosmosgaming

I’m wondering if the reason this is coming so much later is because Nintendo was waiting to see how The Last Story did sales wise for Xseed. If I remember correctly they sold out of their deluxe version of that title and did a regular edition print run, so maybe the success of that one played a role in getting Pandora’s Tower over. Either way, it’s great to see that even with the Wii U out Wii titles can still get localized. Kind of like how the PS2 still saw some localizations after the PS3 was out.

    • LabrynianRebel

Well XSEED probably didn’t want to publish two really risky games at once. The Last Story then became their best selling game they’ve ever done, so now they’re willing to risk Pandora’s Tower as well.

  • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

So can it come in a sexy black case please :D?

    • Elvick

      I hope so.

  • MrJechgo

    HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE !

Looks like I’ll still get some mileage out of my Wii :)

BTW, before flaming me/thumbing me down, I don’t want a Wii U… right now. It’s a bit too expensive for me, I don’t really have the time to play video games as much as I would wish, there aren’t many games that appeal to me and I’m a bit anxious about some of the non-gaming features, like that big fat update and the Wii-to-Wii U data transfer. Once all of these are cleared out, I’ll purchase one. Are we clear? Thank you. The Wii U might get a price cut, I might get more time to play, many first-party games are on their way (SSB U, I’m looking at you) and the hardware might be fine-tuned after a year or two.

Beside, I bought Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story when they came out, played the Hell out of them and loved them both, so I fully support the OpRainfall games. I had a first-gen Wii since its launch with Twilight Princess, got games like SSBB, Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Trauma Team and Tatsunoko vs Capcom over the years.

The main problem I have with Wii U right now are the third-party games… which I can get for my PS3. Aside from the better version of Ninja Gaiden 3 and the physical copy of Warriors Orochi 3, there’s not much that would tell me: “BUY A WII U!”. Good for you if you did, but for me, I’d rather wait a while longer, just to make sure I’ll get my money’s worth in the long run.

    • Hidayat246

i think u post should be in OPEN THREAD rather than in here because u post is OOT from article IMO

  • revenent hell

I <3 xseed. They constantly keep me a happy gamer.
Im also pleased with my patience as well I was tempted to import one but I didnt I still had hope a company would give me the game I wanted MORE than The Last Story or Xenoblade,Though I pretty much wanted them all

  • http://twitter.com/Nates4Christ Nate

Well looks like I’ll have to buy this. I’m already half way through the PAL version. The best part of this game vs the other rainfall games is that it has English subtitles and Japanese dub.

  • Machineguntommy

Good job Xseed. You’ve succeeded where Nintendo failed.

    • Farid Belkacemi

Which Nintendo ? They succeeded in Europe ;)

      • Machineguntommy

Fair enough =P I meant NOA

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Best of the 3 operation rainfall games, IMO

  • Nyandroid

I’m so glad this is finally coming over! =^w^=~ It was honestly the first one I was interested in out of the three.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    All my love X-Seed.^_^

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

    Thank you XSEED!

  • eilegz

very good news its good to see all this games released, sure little late but its better than nothing

  • Strain42

This was actually the only one of the 3 titles I was interested in playing, so I suppose I will go ahead and pick this one up. It’ll be nice to get some more from my Wii. I thought the Kirby Anniversary Pack was gonna be its last hurrah, but now we’ve got this game entering the fray.

  • Go2hell66

crap, was really hoping it was Ys Celceta

    • Elvick

I was hoping it was anything on Vita… but, hey I wasn’t expecting them to pick this up after they brushed it off when asked about it in the past. So I’ll take it! :D

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    I imported it….. oh well I guess I’ll get 2

  • Muffum

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

I’m trying to form a coherent thought about this, but all it’s coming out as is YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

  • Mister_Nep

OMG I’m so happy about this! This is the one out of three Wii games I was hoping for the most. I’m so glad it’s actually happening! So happy! I want to pre-order this right now!

  • TruSpindash

This is a extremely great surprise. I thought the Wii was done but here is a least one more great game, for us Americans anyway.

  • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

Awesome! A shame I missed out on TLS first print run. I hope they do something similar for this…and I hope I have the cash when I need it. >_>

  • $36598391

Can’t wait to get this, thanks Xseed, i don’t have to buy a German Wii anymore

  • http://www.facebook.com/magius.necros Magius Necros

This is amazing news. I always was a meat eater myself.

  • LETS PRAY FOR LOCALIZATION

Have fun running back to Elena every 40 minutes and feed her meat! Kappa.

  • Junko Enoshima

Welp, there goes my social life

  • Lazulis

ALL THAT COMES TO MY MIND IS JOY.

Eagerly awaiting to see what the bonuses will be, if there are any.

  • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

Congrats, USBros. OP Rainfall was a sucess and I hope you enjoy this one!

It’s clearly the “worse” of the three requested games, but when you’re comparing this to the likes of Xenoblade and The Last Story, being the worst out of these three is still an accomplishment in itself, I’d say.

  • Alphabet Soup

DO NOT TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS, XSEED! (explodes with joy)

…see what you made me do?

  • Kristina Wright

Do you know how happy this makes me? Out of the three OR games this is the one I wanted the most and was so upset when it seemed like it wouldn’t ever come here. I picked this up as an import last month but I’ll definitely rebuy it. :) Thanks XSEED and OR.

  • LabrynianRebel

Just to warn people it’s a short little weird action game with mild RPG elements with a time limit. Most of the disappointment over this game was that people thought it was another Xenoblade and didn’t appreciate what it was.

  • Skye Johnson

I wish I could say I enjoyed Pandora’s Tower, but it wasn’t my thing. Still, I’m really glad Xseed is bringing it over though—I know a ton of people who have been really looking forward to seeing it accessible in NA. Might buy a copy just to support Xseed when it comes out.

  • neo_firenze

The very late timing of this decision feels like it might hurt this release. At least The Last Story got a US announcement with enough time that the hardcore fans who would potentially import the EU version decided to wait. Pandora’s Tower always felt like the Project Rainfall game that would fall through the cracks, so I assume there were more people like me who went ahead and got the European release figuring it would never come to NA. Now I just wonder how many people will still care about a Wii release, between those who already played it or who just no longer care about Wii software regardless of WiiU backwards compatibility. But hey, Xseed has their own sales projections and I don’t expect they would have gone ahead if they don’t think they can make some money on this one.

At least with Xseed, Atlus and the like releasing PSP games on Vita, the download versions of the games are easy to sell to owners of either system. I’d have to guess that Pandora’s Tower won’t be the first and only full Wii game to get a downloadable release through the Nintendo eShop.

Not to mention this is probably the hardest sell of the three Project Rainfall games from a content perspective. I personally love it, probably MY favorite between PT, Last Story, and Xenoblade – and I like all three! But PT is a decidedly weird little game. It touched the same part of me that loves offbeat action RPGs with bizarre stories like Nier and Drakengard though.

I have to say I’d have preferred Xseed to work on something else (*cough*Falcom*cough*), but I’m glad people who missed out will have a chance to play Pandora’s Tower.

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

Better late than never. Enjoy North America! It’s got a Shadow of Colossus sort of approach to things. The boss battles being rather awesome as you go along. All-in-all, it’s a fantastic game!

  • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

I really enjoyed Pandora’s Tower probably because I didn’t have expectations of an epic RPG. It’s a essentially an action RPG meets dating sim, which is a neat combination!

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I’ve always wanted to play this! The way the game looks reminds me of classic 3D action adventure games.

  • Ricardo C

I honestly didn’t give a damn about Xenoblade or The Last Story because their storys didn’t interest me one bit but THIS on the other hand got my interest to the fullist. Unlike a lot of people I dont skip games just because of gameplay, graphics, and when a game is on a “last gen” system. I play them for the story. IDGAF about what platform it is or the graphics and it hasn’t failed me yet. Forget you haters! Im getting this game :D

  • https://twitter.com/SaveTheQueenIX Liquid Kaz (Umar)

so many people jumped on XSEED for making a mobile game, and now they’re like “oh XSEED is the greatest ” etc. XSEED is a fantastic company that deserves our support…regardless
