Cave Story Creator Bringing Two More Games To 3DS

By Ishaan . January 20, 2013 . 3:30pm

Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya’s other games—the ones that aren’t named Cave Story—are headed to the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS as well. Nicalis will be publishing both games in the first quarter of 2013.

Ikachan features visuals similar to Cave Story but takes place in an underwater cave. You play as a squid named Ikachan who wakes up inside the cave and has to find his way out, going through a large underwater kingdom afflicted by earthquakes and famine. Ikachan will be released on January 31st.

Meanwhile, Guxt is a vertical shoot-em-up. The 3DS version will include the option to hold the system sideways, so that the the entirety of the top-screen can be used for a vertical display mode. Guxt doesn’t have a release date yet.

Nicalis continuing to ride the Pixel gravy train.

I wonder how many different ways they’ll port these ex-freeware titles this timw?

I am curious about how Guxt will turn out.
The sideways TATE mode is a welcome addition, a few PSP shoot’em ups have this option as well, and even if it seems awkward on paper, it could be fun to play if the button config is suited to it – maybe turning the console on the right and using the D-pad/Circle Pad to move, and B or A to shoot. That way we would use the left thumb for moving the ship, just as with the regular configuration.

    Or wasn’t it supposed to be stylus-controlled? I can’t remember…

His site has a lot of other games that should be ported too, like Rain and Azarashi.

Cave Story is my favorite game of all time. Ika-chan is pretty cool too. Can’t wait to buy these!
