One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 Vita Version Not Coming To U.S.

By Ishaan . January 21, 2013 . 11:30am

Namco Bandai are bringing One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 to the west this summer. The game is confirmed for a PlayStation 3 release in both North America and Europe.

In Japan, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 will also be released on the PlayStation Vita, but neither Namco’s U.S. or European divisions have announced that version for a western release. We got in touch with Namco Bandai’s U.S. division to check if the Vita version would be released in North America, and were informed it won’t.

“Unfortunately the game will not be available for Vita in North American territories,” a Namco Bandai representative shared with us.

well, I guess you can’t win them all. Shame, you would think Sony would want companies to bring over more vita stuff to increase sells

    • JonathanisPrimus

A digital only release of a multi-platform One Piece game, of all things, isn’t going to increase Vita sales in the US.

      • OverlordZetta

But it’s not going to DEcrease them either. People were counting on this. Vita owners wanted a new game to play, and there are barely any as there are.
Striking down one that’s pretty much completely made is just cruel.

  • chibiwall

I can’t think that this game won’t be localized for vita, it should sell better than a generic Let’s fish and they already have to translate it on ps3 -__-

    • Manny Being Manny

Different publishers. Lets Fish is being put out by a small publisher that is okay with low sales as long as they get to bring out niche Japanese games, while Namco expects bigger sales.

      • chibiwall

I see, but it’s one piece, I doubt that they will lose money if they release it on vita too

        • Dede Ogbe

That logic would work only in Japan where it is a sure thing that ppl will buy it. Over in the west however, the same thing cannot be said.

      • JonathanisPrimus

However, the same publisher, Namco Bandai Games US is publishing MUD: FIM Motocross as a PSN-only game for Vita.

  • Sad face.

  • Pedro Tavares

I guess it migth not come out here in Europe either then, Sony is really trying to make me sell my Vita, I haven’t played it since the release month when I finished Dynasty Warriors.

    • kupomogli

Yeah. It’s Sony’s fault that third parties aren’t localizing games on the Vita. Sony isn’t releasing enough first party games either. Sony only funded the development of 16 games for the Vita last year(not including those from PS Mobile.) They could do so much better.

      • malek86

He has a point though. For example, Nintendo has taken to localizing and even publishing on their own a lot of games from Japan and/or the west. Sony seems more intent on making its own games, which is good too, but admittedly there are some third-party games that might have more of a presence.

    • Yohann Piga

Hey! That’s the same for me! European and American branches of Sony want to sink the Vita it seems!

      • OverlordZetta

Hey, at least the European branch let you guys have all of your PS1 classics.
It blows my mind we in the US can’t play Crash and Spyro on our Vitas.

  • Hol Horse

    • JonathanisPrimus

There is no Vita SKU of Jojo’s to not localize anyways.

    • JonathanisPrimus

There isn’t a Vita version of that game in the first place.

  • OverlordZetta

    I don’t.
They’ll have the whole game done.
Why the hell would they do this?
Even if they just do it as a download, why?

I’m not even a One Piece fan, but damn if the game didn’t look fun.

    Are you serious here?
It’s like every time the Vita gets a small victory (a game like this coming out on it), they decide to take it away.

  • Safros9

Oh well, just another game to completely pass on then.

    • raymk

Its not like it was all that great anyway.

  • kupomogli

Not that I’m interested. One Piece and Dynasty Warriors combined, no thank you, but why aren’t they releasing this atleast digital? Assuming the PS3 version is coming to the US, then they’ll have already have localized the game. It’s Dynasty Warriors. How much text/voice acting would it really have(which wouldn’t have to be retranslated rerecorded.) They should make way more than the cost it takes to publish this, even if sales don’t reach their ridiculous expectations.

  • The Grim Heaper

i don’t really see how this is can work out better for them

  • Huh, you’d think a digital only release would be pretty easy and low cost, what with all the translation work already done. Odd.

  • Go2hell66

who cares, we have project x zone

    • raymk

Yep, its not like the vita version was gonna sell anything anyway.

    • People can have both?

  • Aww I like these type of games on handheld.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Before someone says “Well duh, Vita’s selling poorly” it’s a game that’s
already being translated, and being released PSN-only. The only costs
there would be to recoup the reprogramming, and the Sony certification
costs. That is likely a very low cost …

  • Captain_Jiruo

Boo.. I’ll still buy it, but Boo all the same..

  • Dede Ogbe

Who cares. I doubt a digital release of a multi-platform game would have done much for the Vita in the first place. Oh well we all know the story anyway so this news just makes me feel less guilty for importing the Vita version from Japan

  • ragingmerifes

It’s an action game with a story that everyone knows, with the original voicing and released for a region-free portable system.
If they release a digital version, there’s no reason for me not to buy it.

  • *sigh* There goes my purchase. Hopefully Europe or China (in English) will see a release of the Vita game. My job has me travelling far more often than not, so I would much rather spend extra to import the Vita game than spend roughly the same amount for a console version that would sit untouched :(

  • …Why not??

  • Kefkiroth

Aw, I really would’ve picked it up, being a One Piece fan and liking to play games on handhelds when possible.
Though it’s true that 4kids destroyed One Piece’s reputation in the West when they dubbed it.

  • roydgriffin

Damn. I don’t want to buy a PS3 for this.

  • Brion Valkerion

lol more signs that the vita is scrapping the ground. Oh well, looking forward to this, not being a one piece fan but as a this is looking awesome fan :)

    • Testsubject909

Your comment is giving off a lot of weird mixed messages you know?

  • fds_nextdart

Kind of a low blow that they couldn’t bother to localize it for the PSV given the script is already translated. I only hope this isn’t a preamble of what will happen to GEB2~.

  • HassanJamal

NOOOO, i wanted to play this on vita in English! Damn you US Namco Bandai section!

  • Edzo

    big fucking surprise

  • Spider-Man

I fear for God Eater 2.

  • That is unfortunate. Well just means I have to spend less monies.

  • Christopher Abraham

oh come on NB, why can’t you satisfy all of your customers??

  • BadenBadenPrinny

    Gomu gomu no……………………Denied

  • brian yep

Wow this is surprising, especially considering PSV seems to be doing better in US than Japan.
And it could easily be released digitally.

  • NTaiyokun

And the vita takes yet another gunshot wound…..

    • saintfighteraqua

More like a graze, but still…

  • saintfighteraqua

I would have bought it on Vita if it was decently priced.

    • saintfighteraqua

It would have been an awesome cross buy game…

  • i was waiting for Gomu-gomu no Vita….. COMPLETE musou game is always fun in handheld, especially if i can understand the language.
and Vita game for me is expensive…

oh well, gonna play PS3 ver.

  • refrain

No hope for Tales of Hearts R US release then.

  • Nitraion

Hmm it seems publisher on NA or US still “nonono” for VITA version
I wonder why… seeing VITA game getting a lot game releases recently

  • SeventhEvening

If this was a cross-buy game, I’d buy it day one. But as it is, eh…….maybe some other time.

  • Doc Kirby

Will there be a Chinese release of the Vita version? I ask because China got a disc version of the first game and it apparently had English subtitles. If this one gets released on cartridges in China, it might have subs too.

    As Zoidberg would say:

Your decision not to localize it is bad and you should feel bad!

cant we just buy a Japanese version of the game for the vita in the US??… i’ll pretty much understand whats going on anyways since I follow the anime and manga

  • ***Deep breath (asking myself why) i am always looking for one piece game for my vita

  • Gomu Gomu no… IMPORT!!

  • piichan

Don’t fail us now Asia version

  • Øzef Sillona Torrente

what about for other asians who doesnt know how to read chinese and japanese text?

  • Tyger

sad, best title for fans to have on the go, we barely get any anime based game in the US, an when we get a chance for a handle held one, they dont want to, shit, then they dare ask why people hack the consoles, cause most of the great games for fans are in JAP, Gundams, One Piece etc… I have my vita taking dust because i have been waiting for a great game, and KNACK is not one of those…. what i wouldnt give for this game on Vita, and to bring in more Gundam games too
