im so ready for this game :D

  • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Whoops, sorry guys! Video settings fixed.

  • Curan_Altea

I cant be alone in thinking the tactician is an awesome class. Swords and magic combined is just fantastic.

    • Arrei

The promotion, Grandmaster, seems to fall into a jack of all trades, master of none problem, though.

      • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

        More like master of all…

      • Curan_Altea

I don’t see it as a problem really. Their versatility can be very useful.

        • Arrei

Just that the thing is, their versatility apparently is less useful than simply specializing. IIRC, they have fairly low stat caps, so their main draw is to get Grandmaster skills and then change into a different class with those skills.

          • Curan_Altea

Hmmm. Well I’ve been trying not to look up too much on this game. Help keep the experience fresh.
I’m personally against changing a character class in Fire Emblem, but I’ll see how things go.

      • Pockystix

even with that, they are pretty OP

also, if you really want ot specialize, you can always just get a bunch of skills with whatever class you want, then go back to grandmaster lol

      • Ty Arnold

Grandmaster is actually amazing. Being a magic user with actual defense, not to mention Rainbow Cry (or whatever they’re calling it now) is borderline broken.

        • Arrei

Rainbow Cry can be kept after you reclass though, right? I believe that, coupled with the Grandmaster’s lower Magic cap compared to dedicated magic classes, is what sticks them in “master of none” status. Or so I’ve heard.

This is, of course, considering that enemies start capping on everything on higher difficulties and post-game stuff, so you can’t really afford to be limited by caps.

If only it had a pony!

  • EmptyWarrior

February 4th can’t come soon enough.

  • LustEnvy

    Myrmidon FTW.

    • TatsuyaKyo

Agreed. Their naturally high critical rate is no laughing matter.

      • Ty Arnold

They don’t actually get that in this game.

  • MogCakes

It looks great. However…there’s just something about the old sprite-based FE’s on GBA (and SNES) that made them look incredibly visceral in combat. I haven’t gotten that feeling from any of the successive FE titles.

    • Suicunesol

While I don’t dislike the combat animations here, I’m afraid I have to
agree with you. I can’t put down what it is that makes the sprite-based
animations so exhilarating to watch, while the polygonal ones seem bland
      sometimes.

I’d also like to add that mounted units seem a bit
stiff here, most notably the flying units. I think it would be
better if they actually flew around [off screen] at times and dove down
at their opponent rather than just float and stab.

    • Arrei

I know what you mean, the GBA ones were just really over-the-top when it came to attacking. Myrmidons spinning around, all the weapon twirling from crits, it was all just so… stylish, I suppose.

That said, I’m also really liking these animations, though. They’ve added a lot more flair to these animations, which is a big step up from the typically rigid animations of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.

With sprites, there’s a lot more you can do in general then with 3D models.

The Super Robot Taisen series and most ArcSys fighters are still sprite based (If I remember correctly) and look at what some of the things they can pull off.

      • SpiderCVIII

Can’t talk about Super Robot Taisen sprite quality without linking Nu Gundam’s attacks in SRW Z2:

While I do agree sprites can be exaggerated more, 3D models can also be taken to super robot levels of extreme, I mean look at Gyrozzeter and its over the top moves and finshers, in the end, it comes down to how much work they are willing to put in or what the Vision of the director is. Take a look at the vid to see what I mean.

  • Ferrick

    My body is Reggie…

  • Hyli

    They’re all so beautiful… ;u;
I’m going to enjoy this game so much more once that Villager is with me. :3

  • Tiramii

So psyched! And of course, my body is completely ready, <3

  • fireemblembeast

Cool, and as usual I will be choosing myrmidon/mercenary for my avatar. Female avatar can be a mercenary, right? After promoting and all that…

    • Kevin Tan

Yup, she can class change into any class with an item.

      • fireemblembeast

Cool, thanks for confirming. Just can’t be a dancer or manakete or lord or taguel, then, I guess. Those “special classes”.

  • Kaihedgie

    Yes, shapeshifters!

  • Kefkiroth

Currently playing through the first Fire Emblem on GBA; instantly fell in love with the gameplay within the first few chapters. I’m liking the sprite animations in battle; some of the best I’ve seen.

Can’t wait for this to come out.

    • Syn

Sadly, the new games have been a bit ummmm……. stiff when it comes to the animation, not as stylish or over the top as the GBA ones but they are still very very good games

  • Ethan_Twain

Oh man, I can upgrade my pegasus knights with MAGIC now? I.. I’m already thinking through tactical possibilities for this new wrinkle. I’m such a nerd.

  • Miralizmis

    “Dark Flier”… I liked the Japanese name better… :T
Other than that, they all look epicly awesome. :D

lol at that Villager with the log… :P

  • Prinnydoom

From what I’ve seen of gameplay they haven’t nerfed the thief class like they did in previous games actually stands a chance now

  • TatsuyaKyo

    NUNSWITHAXES

Do you hate it when a goon with a long stick pokes one of your healers? Then fret no more! With the Battle Monk promotion, anyone who stupidly tries to get your healers will meet the nasty end of their axe. Oh, but you can only promote your characters once, so choose wisely!

    • Prinnydoom

Ha welcome to FE: Awakening with re-classing. New item allows characters to change to certain classes. Battle monk to pegasus knight then to griffon rider or falcon knight. Its broken as heck because you can max out nearly every stat.

  • StarWarudo

Why Siliconera? Why are you tempting me to buy a 3DS?!

  • KyoyaHibari

Tactician, Myrmidon, Lord, Sage, Assassin, War Monk and Worker look to be my favs. ;P (Aside from the shapeshifters and mounts).

  • Wafflenaut

    Generals unite!

  • alundra311

What’s the japanese name of the falcon knight? Because it’s funny how it’s named falcon knight when he does not even ride a falcon.

    • raymk

Its the same in japanese as well.

  • alundra311

  • YoshEE

2 week left and I can’t wait xD

  • kaizin

wow going to be hard to pick what class i want my avatar to be maybe lord not sure cant wait to get my hands on this.

  • komiko12

Can someone tell me what Villagers are good at..
And also is the Dancer class useful?

    • Prinnydoom

Villagers are the scrubbiest of scrubs don’t use em. Unless you really want to but they are pathetic. Dancers are much more versatile in this game since they can wield swords. They make for good back up especially if you double up with another character.
