Fire Emblem: Awakening First DLC Prices Revealed

By Ishaan . February 7, 2013 . 10:30pm

Nintendo of America have revealed price details for Fire Emblem: Awakening’s downloadable content, some of which is now live on the Nintendo eShop.

As previously reported, the game’s first piece of DLC mission, Champions of Yore 1, is available for free until March 5th. This episode has a fortuneteller summoning Marth to fight alongside Chrom.

Two other pieces of DLC are available now as well—Champions of Yore 2 for $2.50 and a Champions Pack for $4.00. Champions of Yore 2 has Roy joining you, and the Champions Pack contains Champions of Yore 1, 2 and 3.

(Note that Champions of Yore 3 is not available for individual purchase at the moment, and so you can’t play this mission yet, even if you do pick up the Champions Pack. It shows up in your purchase list so you won’t have to buy it again later, though.)

Update: Updated with confirmation that Champions of Yore 3 cannot be played yet, even if you do download it.

  • Champions of Yore 2 seems very pointless with the Pack containing all three. Even if the third would have been available separately it would come down to $5. Weird.

    • Arrei

It’s not so pointless if you don’t want Champions of Yore 3. Some people take issue with Micaiah’s guest art, others might just not care enough to pay for Micaiah.

      • Gotta say though, I think the art-style of Fate/Extra did away with the graceful look she had. I know it’s a different artist, but still. Of course, the Dark Mage outfit put on her doesn’t exactly help either…

      • True, on the other hand if I already have to pay $2.50 for Marth I can just as well add in $1.50 and get another map to expand my game experience even further. But that’s just me.

        • Actually Marth is in the free pack. The pay required one has Roy so far. And the third one… well, I’m just not sure who it’ll be, but we don’t have it yet. That’s the extra $1.50

          • Arrei

That’d be Micaiah, as we’re talking about here.

      • biskmater

what’s wrong with micaiah’s art?, she looks no different from resident dark mages.

        • Suicunesol

Some like her graceful and demure disposition from Radiant Dawn. Wearing clothes like that of the resident dark mages is contrary to her character (and she’s not even a dark mage to begin with). ie. she’s a priestess not a half-naked dancer.

          • biskmater

in such a case, i would be angry at whoever decided she would enlist as a dark mage, and I am pretty sure it was not her artist, so i am guessing she just took the misaimed backdraft.

        • Arrei

That’s what I thought too, but some people didn’t like how it’s exactly the same as Tharja’s outfit (versus the other DLC characters who got flashier versions of the class uniforms), some think a skimpy outfit like the Dark Mage robes just doesn’t fit Micaiah’s character… and some people don’t like her nose.

I don’t like her nose either.

        • At least she doesn’t look like Passion Lip…… She looks OK except for a bit fanservicey. Then again, I am new to FE series so w/e.

    • Is champions of yore 2.50?

  • kupomogli

So people can bash EA, Activision, and Capcom for releasing prerelease DLC, but if someone mentions Nintendo doing it, the post gets deleted? Unless I accidentally deleted it myself.

    • M’iau M’iaut

We ask those folks to move on as well. And this isn’t going to be a gateway for you to continue your usual antics.

    • Ruby Doobie

This is a different situation though, it wasn’t released simultaneously with the Japanese version so if people in other regions got more of the game then that would seem unfair to the japanese consumers (I’m sure you would feel the same if you found out everyone in europe was getting all dlc for (example) Skyrim for free.

Not to mention the limited time offer for free dlc is a pretty sweet deal.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Ninty is giving a full month for the freebie, which should cover ANY of the delays. AMZN shipped mine today for delivery tomorrow.

        • revenent hell

Amazon still has not shipped mine though :( Ive never looked so neurotically to see if a game has been shipped….On top of that a nice lil winter blizzard is going to start some time today in my area so I am sure that will cause a bit more of a delay for the game for me….But it definantly has to appear by March, though how far I get in to the game befor the freebie is not free anymore is anyones guess

          • You just need to get to chapter 5. That’s not too hard to do. The game moves fairly quickly up until that point. By chapter 5, things start to open up a lot more and then the game gets larger. So, it shouldn’t be too hard to get the freebie!

          • revenent hell

I have heard this as well but im so anal in RPG’s…….If anyone can find a way to unnaturally elongate a game I can :D

          • Well, then I wish the best for you!

          • revenent hell

Thanks! As a side note ….amazon…..They have changed my pre order to currently out of stock….. Tiz a sad day:(

    • Suicunesol

I guess Nintendo fans just aren’t as bothered because it doesn’t seem like content that should’ve/would’ve significantly contributed to the enjoyment of the game in the first place. They’re just extra characters with download scenarios, and some challenge maps/sidestories. On the other hand, other companies such as EA and Activision go out of their way to take out content from the game to turn into DLC.

      • M’iau M’iaut

If someone chooses to turn on the way back machine with an old FE cameo or put the Tales girls in schoolgirl outfits/bathing suits, that’s only an issue between that person and their credit card company.

      • revenent hell

I guess im a Nintendo fan in the way im a sony fan so….The DLC is not a big deal for me since it wasnt released befor the game intentionally, its a shipping errors fault.
Things like that happen,it was a goof up in the shipping process or whatever, wich I am unpleased about, but eh its life and it happens.
This is not a case of scenarios being cut from the game to be sold as DLC or even DLC on the disc at time of purchase blah blah blah….Its an error and I think most rational folk get that. So…why be upset?

    • Arrei

      It’s not prerelease DLC, though…

    • Because its uncalled for here because the DLC is done right? How long has the game been out in Japan man?

    • Herok♞

Where is Nintendo doing prerelease DLC? We knew about all the DLC because the game came out in April 2012 in Japan, and the free DLC went live on Monday when the game was released and I got my copy. Unless you are referring to the shipping delays, but you have to remember even if can’t get a physical copy today you can get it from the eshop.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Folks, if you think this is an opening to continue the I HATE HOW ANOTHER CHOOSES TO SPEND THEIR MONEY gimmick its not this thread, or this site.

  • ZEROthefirst

Guess I’ll be getting the Pack tomorrow morning. I already have 1 like most people already, but sadly Roy is my favorite FE character and I’m willing to spend my money to get him in my party XD

  • Eric Harris

I might buy a DLC or 2, if it’s an important “grinding” spot. I actually like grinding in Fire Emblem. But as far as old characters, nah I’m happy with the huge amount of characters already. More power to anyone who does though.

    • There are two maps made specifically for grinding: one for Gold and one for EXP. I’m going for those.

      • Which ones?

      • Christopher Nunes

Which ones are for EXP and Gold? I wouldn’t mind saving up… even though I just beat the game a few hours ago. ^_^

      • SoulEater98

Please do speak, I am curious.

        • @SoulEater98:disqus @facebook-100001466297520:disqus @twitter-437082997:disqus

From the look of things, both of them are maps where you fight enemies that… don’t even attack you (although they will counter in combat). I don’t know what they’re gonna be named in the English versions, but I’ll link to them. They’re probably not big spoilers, but still a small spoil of surprise, so read at your own discretion.

          [Gold Map]
          [EXP Map]

There’s also apparently another DLC map where you can grind really powerful weapons, but that’s obviously for mid- to end-game play.

  • Mayjay

My ears perked up at the sound of new DLC. But then I remembered that I’ve barely even used Marth. He makes for great cannon fodder though. xD

  • Suicunesol

I’m one of those people who thinks the price is too high. It’s clear that they priced it to make you go for the package rather than just Roy. If it were me, I’d have made it $1.99 per champion/map, and made the champions pack $3.99.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Hard to price that way and give #1 for free. Like with the Mario DLC, the cost isn’t uber ridiculous when you divide the number of main story maps into $40.

      • Suicunesol

Yeah, that’s true. Marth being free messes with the value of the package a little bit, so I’m not sure how to judge right…

        • M’iau M’iaut

There will be plenty of folks for whom a free Marth is all they will want, and ends up a thank you for buying the game.

    • Some people might not want Pack 3 either.

    • ronin4life

The champion pack is $4 until march.

I too think the dlc is over priced…>.>

  • Dynami

I really wish there was more to the Einherjar units. There was some novelty in the free mission, but not so much that I’d pay for it. I understand why some would, though. Everyone’s got their own ideal fanservice. There’s plenty of dlc coming down the pipeline for this game that I”m eagerly waiting for.

    • They want infinite grinding for their archers methinks. Einherjar? I havent heard that since Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume

  • Linhua

… if you ask me… going by what Champions of Yore 1 gives you… these prices seem to be a little too high and don’t quite add up to the experience.

… I realize that these are only phantoms of the real characters, but I couldn’t help notice that their models are a bit… lacking… I dunno if it’s just me having higher expectations… I just thought they’d look a lot less generic… but then… that was when I came across what looks like a pretty accurate Fire Emblem Awakening Class Wiki… and read this:

    Outrealm Class (DLC only)

A class obtained from the Outrealm Gate. (What a DLC class looks like when DLC is not installed.)

… I wouldn’t have gotten so confused until I read the part in parenthesis.

… what exACTly are they talking about here…? … or does this even have anything to do with the characters you gain after winning…?

    • What I think the description of Outrealm Class means is that, when your game doesn’t have the data for a character but have to fight them in a battle, it’s replaced with a specific generic model (otherwise, the game would crash from error). I don’t have the game yet though, so I can’t explain in detail, I’m afraid.

      • Linhua

… actually… when you put it that way… it starts to make more sense to me… but then that leads me to the next question about the DLC not being installed.

… i’m beginning to wonder if there is something I haven’t downloaded yet for these characters to look like they’re supposed to… and if they haven’t been released yet… why in the world would they drop DLC with unprepared characters…?

… @[email protected] … i’m losing my mind over this… but thank you for trying to help shed some light on this.

… can’t wait for that Feet DLC though… XD

        • I think it’s because character models and voice files for units not native to Awakening are contained in the DLC files and not in the game’s release version. Weapons, items and stats, on the other hand, can be easily generated by the game just fine, so if you lack Ike (for example), the game will generate a character with the same stats, skills and equipment as authentic DLC Ike, but will fill in the missing models and voices with the generic dummy data that is “Outrealm Class”.

That’s just my guess of a possible structure though, so take it with a grain of salt.

          • Linhua

… I shall take that with two grains of salt!

… it seems to sum up the gist of it… I guess all there is left to do is wait for the actual DLC characters… however they plan on doing THAT… lol.

… i’m praying you’re right though… because that is EXACTLY what I wanted and have been looking forward to and I am willing to pay a pretty penny for them.

… then ya throw in some really challenging maps… some of the strongest bosses from the older games… the works.

… too bad you can’t couple the spotpass and DLC characters… that would have been lots of fun.

… thanks again, Sir Drakos… while your theories are just that… it’s a possibility i’m willing to believe until they clarify with the coming news of more goodies.

          • zeta

im guessing its like this when someone streetpassed you and you’re using dlc characters then they dont have that character info from the dlc it shows that Outrealm class sprite

          • Linhua

… but now the question becomes: “Where do you get the DLC characters?”

… far as I can see… the only DLC that’s been released are these Champions of Yore maps that come with a recruit-able leader or special character that’s somewhere on the battlefield.

… i’ve yet to defeat any of the spotpass characters and their groups, but I saw Lyndis out there and I squealed.

… but what i’m puzzled about is why she’s a SpotPass and not DLC. From the same source I got the Class information, it showed me a list of the DLC characters and Lyndis was in there.

… if that little bit of info was wrong then I have no complaints… XD

… i’ll have to try defeating one of these groups [or at least encounter the leader] so I can see if those models look just as generic.

          • Guest

Lyndis exists as both a Spotpass and a DLC character. The DLC versions of characters have unique character models and new artworks, like the DLC Marth, while the Spotpass versions of characters have generic models built from Avatar creation parts (like the NPC versions of characters that appear in Heroes of Yore).

I hope this clears things up. When Roy, Lyndis, Ephraim, etc get released as DLC, they won’t look generic the way they do on Spotpass and on the DLC maps.

          • Linhua

… wow… right on the money.

… that clears up almost everything.

            … last question (I think).

… does this mean that all of the ‘SpotPass only’ characters will look generic…?

… i’m expecting you to say Yes to this… because that would explain why they’re free… u_u … and that would totally leave me feeling pretty salty.

  • Brimfyre

I hope they don’t take down the DLC ever. I haven’t played the FE with Roy as the main so I kind of wanted to play through that before I get the DLC with him in there but that might be years from now. ha

Also, this game, has to be the best game I’ve played in years.

    • Axl_abe

umm, that wasnt released here >_> You’ll have to find the english patch if you want it

      • Brimfyre

… yes I know. I own in legally though. Bought it in Japan a few years ago when I was over there.

  • I got the pack yesterday! I see that a lot of people say it’s overpriced, but let me tell you I’m glad about it because I have no idea how to level up my troops? So, I use those extra maps to do it..and get a little bonus of course :)

    • You can also find/buy reeking boxes ($500).
      1. Go into the inventory.
      2. Select the reeking box (held by the character you found/bought it with).
      * It should be noted that the difficulty/level of the enemy you will summon with the reeking box depends on your location on the world map. Choose locations opened later in the story for harder enemies and earlier locations for weaker.
      3. Select the reeking box and choose the “Use” option to summon enemies to the map.

  • Ty Arnold

I’m only really interested in DLC that either gives more story content, or gives out new classes.

The characters don’t really matter, especially since Spotpass lets you get all of them (except Eltoshan or whatever they’ll call him) for free anyway.

  • AntonioPeYangIII

This is probably going to sound dumb, but here goes…

Hi, this is the first time I will ever be DL’ing Add-On content for a 3DS game, but every time I try to download the Champions of Yore 1 package (the free DLC) from the eShop, I keep getting prompted back to the game.

Am I doing something wrong? I’d really appreciate it if somebody could explain how I’m supposed to get Add-Ons

Finish chapter 5 first, then you can download the DLC
