Square Enix have registered a domain related to the Legacy of Kain franchise. Superannuation discovered the domain, warfornosgoth.com, which was registered this past Thursday. In the Legacy of Kain lore, Nosgoth is the setting in which the entirety of the series takes place.

Square Enix haven’t officially announced a new Legacy of Kain game yet. The majority of games in the series have been developed by Crystal Dynamics, who recently wrapped work up on the Tomb Raider reboot.

Gotta say, if they’re actually doing something with this series, and they treat it well, I’m very VERY pleased by this.

  • Brimfyre

Not to sound cynical, but I will put money that it is a mobile game.

    • Luna Kazemaru

no you just sound like a broken record.

      • Brimfyre

Really? When else have I said this looks like a mobile game?

  • drproton

    Edgy DmC-style reboot?

    • Pepe da farmer

      Don’t joke like that…

    • M’iau M’iaut

Naw this is Legacy of Kain. The reboot will be in pastels with Kain fighting in the name of everlasting love.

      • I’d buy that.

      • amagidyne

Yeah, but everyone would still end up Tameem-faced somehow.

      • Valtiel Ikari

and Raziel time travel would make him be his own grandfather!

  • Holding my excitement back for now. Here’s hoping to get a good game!

    Probably a social game
Kidding aside… i am curious about this one.

  • SirRichard

It’d be a fitting thing to put Crystal Dynamics back on, though I can also see some sort of HD Collection/bundle of all the games in the series coming as well. Maybe to hype up a new entry?

It’s kind of funny; Defiance was nine years ago, just around the time of Deus Ex: Invisible War. They already pulled one long-buried series back to life, I wouldn’t doubt they’d swing it again.

…Actually, Thief: Deadly Shadows was nine years ago, too, and that series is also being revived. There’s a trend, here.

    • They just released the LoK series on Steam, alongside the old Tomb Raiders. I guess that could count as an attempt to gauge remaining interest?

      • SirRichard

Might just be, and if it went well for them then that might explain this.

        • Considering the 10 bucks pricetag on each of them, they definitely raked in plenty of cash with this move.

Personally, I just picked up LoK and Blood Omen 2 on GOG; 50% off this weekend, no DRM, about 1/4 the price on Steam per game, and fair to europeans.. If whatever they have planned for the future does the franchise justice, I’m all ear.

    • Oldies but goodies, I welcome sequels and prequels alike for older games. Even if they decide to do a remake of Blood Omen or Soul Reaver I’ll on board with that.

  • kupomogli

I’d buy a Legacy of Kain reboot.

    • Pockystix

would be nice, but hopefully it’s not pawned to some outside dev team, or just a social/mobile game. . .

    • Actually NO, I know alot of people may have never played the game, but I want the story to end, Defiance left us with a cliffhanger after all.

      • Derek E Nay

The games always end like that. Defiance felt less so :P.

        • but we always had sequels to explain what happens next :D, but after Defiance, you are literally back to square one LOL

          • Göran Isacson

TECHNICALLY true. But then again, considering every other game hade you at square -10000 or something, REACHING square one in the first place is a pretty big achievement for this world.

          • LOL true enough.

          • Derek E Nay

Not really. The only stepping stone for Kain are the demons who will forever be. I just wanted to know how Kain has changed since his purity, other then that the story felt like it was ok to end there knowing how niche the series was.

          • The Balance isn’t restored, that’s what LoK is all about, Kain is yet to restore the balance.

          • Derek E Nay

Kain was purified, not the world’s balance. Remember, every guardian became corrupted because of the first game; and Kain found out he was a guardian at the end. But in the last game, Raziel sacrifices himself in order to cure Kain’ Impurity. It was then Kain said there was hope.

  • konsama

Legacy of Kain reboot, Kain gets forced to use his vampire powers as survival instinct after being captured, but most of all, to avoid being raped.

    • Landale

Is it sad that my first though was “Didn’t Raziel already do that in Defiance? Sure, there was no rape threat but there were tentacles they could’ve gone there.”?

      • Göran Isacson

… The worst thing is, there’s probably fanfic of that out there. Even if Raziel no longer HAS any orifices.

  • Luna Kazemaru

    Reboot maybe? Or HD remaster?

  • We_Were_There

    mobile game, calling it.

    • TheExile285

      My thoughts exactly.

    • Armane

I came here to post this.

  • amagidyne

The title “War for Nosgoth” suggests that you’re either going to be playing as a soldier or commanding an army, so I’m going to guess it’s a browser game with Facebook and Twitter connectivity.

    • I’m pretty sure it’s a subtitle and will be a Kain origin story.

  • Square stop making me love you. I can’t quit you Square.

    • Derek E Nay

The lack of upvotes for that line makes me sad.

  • Let there be Flowery Elizabethan English once more.

Let Kain and Raziel show XIII-2’s Serah and Noel how time-traveling and dialogue exchange is done.

    • amagidyne

    • Göran Isacson

Kain educating Lightning in taking a third choice? Yes. Oh my stars and garters yes please.

  • If it’s a social game or some kind of shitty reboot, I swear i’m gonna break things in my house.
Please, SE, please, just this time don’t fuck that up.

  • Randgriz

I dont think it means anything, i read a little while ago that square enixs trademark contract on a bunch of IPs had expired an they had to re-trademark some of their titles. This i suppose it just one of those titles.

  • You misspelled “Defiance”.

  • epy

Quite hard to be excited. I hope it is something that at least doesn’t cheapen the brand.

    • fds_nextdart

Or that it isn’t going to be a social app~. >.>

  • Lester Paredes

Honestly, I don’t care what it is, as long as it’s good and adds to the incredible lore already set in place.

  • A soul reaver reboot would be choice, hell that game is still good enough to play as a ps1 classic.

  • Money on an HD collection of the PS2 titels…

  • Valtiel Ikari

please let it be a conclusion to the series that left with a cliffhanger! skuae pls!

  • Learii

i might get t his since i didn’t get it last time

  • Adol Christin

I hope they announce something new this E3. But without Amy Henning…. I’m not so sure anymore :(

  • SilvaStarRippa

If I had to take a wild guess, I’m not even gonna say its a reboot.

I think it’s some game that takes place in that enormous timegap between the end of Blood Omen 1 and the start of Soul Reaver 1 in the original timeline before all that Soul Reaver 2 bizarreness.

  • Adi Abdurab

Sounds like it is going to be an MMORPG about ancient vampires and the hylden, there are certainly enough stories there

  • Göran Isacson

Slowly letting myself feel anticipation for this. Slowly, slowly… oh. So. Slowly.

    • brian

Then it ends up a social browser/mobile game AND a reboot.

      • Göran Isacson

        Image says it all

  • ryne11

I never played the series. Is it any good?

    • fds_nextdart

It is really good; the Soul Reaver games were amazing. Almost like playing a dark themed Zelda but with an actual plot and a character that has a personality~.

    • colorblindnightmare

If you’re looking for a mindles bunch of action games, proceed no further. But if your looking for something with a cool visual style, amazing voice acting and story, the go for it.

  • Firekitty

It says something about the series that even such simple news can cause an emotional reaction strong enough to make me tear up a little.

I’ve always had faith in you, SE. Don’t hurt me again.

  • Hopefully it’s another fame set after Defiance, everything after the Blood Omen series was suppose to be broken up into seven parts if I remember correctly.

  • evilmajikman

Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2, & Defiance in a HD collection and I’ll be happy.

  • So that mean expect next Legacy of Kain video game with Square Enix name on there. Is there a way we can get a Japanese developer to do this one like maybe Platinum Game Studio to do a legacy of Kain, if they can do that, then I wouldn’t mind Platinum do Darksider like I’m hearing rumour about:

    • Göran Isacson

… But why would you want that? Platinum are good at action and gameplay, but Legacy of Kain has always been about its lore and its twisting and relentlessly dark plot. They would be incredibly unsuited for Legacy of Kain.

      • colorblindnightmare

I partially agree with that sentiment. If plat did the action portions and crystal did the story and puzzles, I would bet on a real contender.

  • colorblindnightmare

SE…..if you are trolling us with some stupid mobile game, there will be fans who will forge their own soul reavers….and they will find you. Gods have mercy on your soul if you screw this up.
