    OhhhhhK

Big Question for EU PS3 User: is the Download also Region Locked?

  • Phill XVII

    Big Question

Also Region Locked for EU PS3 User?

    • Ferrick

its account region locked, so if you have a EU psn, you can’t dl it (but psst, you can make a US ps3 account and use that to get it :P)

      • Phill XVII

I know that. But works the Download with a PS3 PAL Console?
And sorry for the double Post.

        • Akuosa

No, you could dowload it using a US account, but once downloaded it wont work on a PAL PS3, as it’s the same as the retail version, region locked and all.

That’s just relentlessly mean… damn ZenUnited.

      • mirumu

That works for most games, but supposedly won’t with P4A. If I recall correctly the game checks the region of your console somehow.

        • http://eonhack.blogspot.com theclaw

As far as I understand, any console with the ability for games to reliably identify versions is capable of region lock. Even Master System and Game Gear allowed games to switch language between English or Japanese using some kind of detection.

          • mirumu

Yes. From the perspective of a developer if there’s any difference between systems of each region visible at the API or hardware level then you could use that to restrict your software. I’m sure it’s been possible on the majority of consoles. Could even be as simple as the code being able to see the console’s model number or serial number.

The thing is that normally companies follow the direction set by the console manufacturer on region locking. I’m very unhappy with Atlus over this.

          • Ephidiel

well dling it works so far

    • mirumu

Another site quoted an Atlus representative ”It should be like the retail version so I believe that it will have the same region lock”.

Kills any thoughts I might have had of buying it.

  • Nightmesh

Oh I hope its just a 20$ title. I have plans for my money the rest of this month but I can squeeze this in if its that price.

    • VonMist

Here’s hoping, although I wouldn’t complain if it were like 25-30$

      • Nightmesh

Same. I would just have to get it next month but the wait would almost drive me insane.

  • SupaPhly

    Meanwhile in Europe

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Altin-Bujupaj/1157167838 Altin Bujupaj

You need to do it right mate!

    • Prinnydoom

Were all going steadily insane -__-

      • heartless141

i’d only buy it if it’s at a 30USD price tag, along with all the DLCs free or something >_> bloody hairgel.

    • Armane

Even if it does get released here eventually, I’m boycotting it on principle.

  • Ephidiel

will it be regionfree on PSN?

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Seems like your question has been answered below (basically a No) This is the same as the NA PS3 version

  • Istillduno

Seriously Atlus, so long after the initial release and they are still ****ing themselves over the idea of someone in Japan buying the game a little cheaper.

Europeans don’t need to boycot P4A to show what we think about the region lock, by the time we get it our grandchildren will be playing PS15s and the game will be dead on arrival.

  • Magus KilIer

I hope this makes it to Playstation +,ive wanted to buy this game for some time but i haven’t found the Ps3 version in stores

  • MrJechgo

That’s cool, but I already have the retailed copy and cleared the story mode. It is worth the purchase for any Persona 4 fan though, be physical or digital :)

  • Ben Sylvia

Funny, was just thinking it would be nice if it was a downloadable title the other day.

Wish it was on Vita too, oh well, just going to make the day I finally get a new PS3 all the better.

  • Go2hell66

plz don’t let this be region locked

  • Neko Kawaii

    God dammit this is region locked too? :l don’t they realize this game is considered dead by now, I was hoping to just download it and end all this annoying waiting…uguuu ;-;

  • XypherCode

So how does the region locking work here? I have a R3 PS3 with a US PSN account.

    • Akuosa

They already said it’s the same as the retail version, so it’s like if you have the phisical US copy of the game in your hands right now… your PS3 still wouldn’t play it. We’re out of luck :/

      • XypherCode

        Too bad :
Was just curious though. I already have the JP retail version so I had to make an HK PSN account for DLC just for this game.

  • nano_desu

Remember Atlus saying the only reason for region locking is to prevent early imports of physical USA versions by Japanese residents? Because of the price difference. But locking a digital download released 6 months later? I don’t get it.
And this whole ‘region lock’ is just one single text string in a small file.

  • SeventhEvening

I might finally get to play the game now. I wanted to buy it when it was first released, but my PS3 is US region and I live in Korea, so all my copies here are Asia region. That region lockout prevented my purchase completely. I hope it’s relatively reasonably priced.

  • Adol Christin

So EU fans can download and play it? or is the digital copy also region locked?

    • Mr_SP

I would assume so, yes. It’s certainly not worth the time, effort, and money to test something that’s really, really unlikely to work.

  • Göran Isacson

And it’s still regionlocked. “What is this I don’t even” no longer suits this situation, it is BEYOND baffled reactions.

  • amagidyne

I think it’s time we accept that P4A will never be released in Europe and that Atlus hates each and every one of us.

    • TiredOfMyOldUsername

That doesn’t have anything with Atlus hating Europe.
      Atlus don’t have a branch in Europe…
If someday they open a branch in Europe and then don’t release their game there peoples from Europe would have a reason to say Atlus hate them, until than though they don’t have any reason to say that.

Also Persona 4: Arena will be released in Europe by Zen united.

  • XiaomuArisu

    so….where is my EU version?
    Wanna play it

  • PowerOfTheFlamesIori

I only like Kanji to be honest, but I have so much fun with him I never get tired of using him.

  • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Ugh. Bloody hell, you guys. How many times do we have to keep repeating the rule? No begging for ports or complaining about platforms.
