Ys I & II Chronicles+ Will Reach Steam On February 14th [Update]

By Ishaan . February 12, 2013 . 9:30am

Ys I & II Chronicles+ for PC will be released on February 14th via Steam, Xseed have announced.

The bundle, which contains both Ys I and II, will come with enhanced features such as widescreen support, selectable art styles, leaderboards, Steam Cloud support, achievements, four difficulty levels and a Boss Rush mode.

Additionally, you’ll be able to choose between the games’ original FM-synth soundtrack, an “early modern” MIDI-style soundtrack, or a “metal interpretation” of the soundtrack by Falcom’s in-house JDK band.

Ys I & II Chronicles+ will cost $14.99 when it releases on Steam on the 14th, but if you pre-purchase the game before then, you’ll get a 15% discount.

Update: Trailer added.

I’m kinda surprised by this post, since the release date, including countdown, has been up on the Steam storepage for almost two weeks now, since shortly after it went up for preorder.

Then again, reminding people that its coming out in pretty much exactly 48 hours might not be a bad thing.

    My body is ready.

I’ve never played any of the Ys games, but this looks really interesting. Maybe I’ll buy?!

I’d suggest starting with Ys: The Oath in Felghana (if you like old-school challenge) or Ys Seven (if you’re more of a modern gamer), as they’re much more approachable titles. Ys I & II are great games, but they’re products of an earlier time, and are thus a bit more obtuse and “eclectic” than their more modern-day spinoffs. They’re best enjoyed by players who are already series fans or by gamers with a historical/nostalgic bent looking to mentally transport themselves back to the late ’80s.

Now hopefully, somehow, we can get AoN on Steam. Or at least as a PS2 classic on PSN.

    I’LL TAKE 20

I own the two that are on steam already but never played them. I hate to say it but I will probably only pick these up when the inevitably go on steam sale. Though does one really need to play these in order? I would assume not given the out of order release.

    • wyrdwad

Yeah, no problem playing these games in any order, really. Only Ys II requires prior knowledge of its predecessor, and… well… that’s why you always see those two bundled together! ;)

      • Micrll

Thanks! Good to know :) Will play the ones I have already first before picking this up.

    My wallet is already deadopened.

Okay its basically Ys I+II Complete with Ys I+II Chronicles fused together.
    Bought.

These games looks awesome, do they look and play just as good on PSP? if so I’m getting them on my Vita.

    • wyrdwad

The “zoomed-in” shots from the trailer (the ones without the decorative frame) are pretty close to how the game looks on PSP, albeit at half the framerate and with a few more load times here and there. Still, it’s pretty close.

It’s good to know they do not forget about PC… I wish other developers did that as well.

  • Richard N

Well… not like I was gonna do anything on Valentine’s Day anyway….
