New Super Luigi U DLC Coming To New Super Mario Bros. U

Nintendo are working on downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U, titled “New Super Luigi U”. The DLC will change the existing 80+ courses in the game to all-new courses.

New Super Luigi U will be a “large-scale downloadable content” similar in scope to a full game, according to Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata. For this reason, development is taking a while, but the DLC will be released this year.

Oh wow, if this is a whole batch of new stages, then I support the idea. It sure beats releasing a NSMB.U every 12 months. Hopefuly it isn’t as costly as a new game though. If Ninty try charge £50 for this, they’d be shooting them selves in the foot. Again.

Now bring on New Super Wario Bros. U for 2014~!

This practically IS rereleasing a NSMB U except only 6~ months after release, we’ll just have to wait and see about the price.
They only make one NSMB title per console, meaning we wouldn’t have gotten another one for 4-5 more years.

This is a really good idea. Hopefully they don’t charge too much.

great news i like dlc to be more like expansions

  • Cool! I love their whole Year of Luigi” shtick! I can’t wait until this dlc is released!

  • Spirit Macardi

Wow, I didn’t even know the game was designed to allow DLC, let alone something of this size! This sounds less like standard DLC and more like an expansion pack, which is awesome in my book.

  • As much as I am excited this for, I’m not looking forward to the announced price seeing how pretty much everything in the eStore is beyond me.

DLC at it’s best? Why did Sony and Microsoft had to wait for Nintendo to do it? Kind of reminds me of the countless NSMBW hacks of yore, but this time with that Nintendo seal of quality.

Can we get a princess peach as a playable character since this game does allow DLC like this.

    • It would add more depth to her character, I enjoyed Super Princess Peach. I think she should be playable in the next 3D Mario.

  • SetzerGabbiani

$30 minimum…at most full price, and that’s pretty much a no go.

This is going to be expensive, yes. But come on, they’re basically redoing the whole game. This is honestly really great for both us and Nintendo. They’ve stated that they only plan to release 1 NSMB game per console cycle. Lots of people didn’t believe them because NSMB is a money maker. Most people thought they’d release another one in two years. But now all they have to do is just support the game they have out now. Nintendo gets money, and gamers quit whining. Win win.

I have felt for a very long time that Super Mario Brothers (and New Super Mario Brothers in particular) is actually really well suited to DLC. These games are made fun by their level designs, not the graphics or stories or new ways to play. So if a new game is essentially just a new pile of levels, why not release a base Mario game that almost acts as a platform and then release lots of levels for it over time via DLC? I think this is a fantastic idea.
